Instant Messenger attributes
Does anyone know where the settings are defined as to how the following IM attributes are stamped when a user is IM enabled? msExchIMAddress msExchIMMetaPhysicalURL msExchIMPhysicalURL msExchIMVirtualServer We have had IM running for over a year now w/ no major issues. Recently, new users started getting stamped with a different domain association for the IM server. So previously the IM server as declared in the IM attributes was IMserver.domaina.com. Now IM attributes are getting stamped as IMserver.domainb.com. Any help is appreciated. Running Exchange 2000 sp3, native mode. RE: Instant Messenger attributes
You were right. Don't know why the legacy domain name was being used all a sudden. I first tried forcing the DNS Suffix on the IM server to see if it was a flaky DNS related issue why it was pulling from the wrong domain. That didn't seem to do it. I had to delete the _rvp record from the old domain. Killed the ESM and restarted and everything started working as expected. Many thanks for the help. -Heath -Original Message- From: Cook, David A. Re: Exchange 2000 Instant Messenger
I've configured this at some of our clients. It works as expected. The main issues are the interoperability or lack thereof between your internal system and external IM. In addition, last I heard Microsoft is decoupling IM from Exchange in the next release, so you might want to check into that as well. Does anyone out there use the IM built into Exchange 2000? RE: Instant Messenger
4.5 is not yet supported for an E2k configuration. Although the XP Windows update site supplies a link for a 4.5 Exchange version, it goes to the 3.5 version page. The 4.0 version that installs with XP will only work if you are upgrading a Win2k machine that already had the Exchange version installed. Having it on the same server as E2k can be problematic. There is an update that can be had from PSS, no charge, that resolves some of the authentication problems with AD with a same server setup. The best solution is to run the IM from another server.
