We run it on a separate server, inside the firewall. Then again, we process
on the order of (let me check here - ok, there it is) as of 4pm EST, we've
processes 60,000 messages today. We spike into the 300-600 messages/minute
category at times.

So, we try to keep it separate. We're running it on a Solaris box, and it
handles all inbound and most of the outbound mail for the company.

Don't I remember you saying you moved to Norton a while back?  If you own the 
corporate suite, go get disk 2 and install the one you already own.  NAV for Internet 
Email gateways can block by attachment name, type, and subject line in addition to 
performing antivirus tasks.  

I can't tell what you mean by on the gateway, so I'm assuming you want to block 
*.vbs, *.js, etc. on the SMTP gateway.
