I disagree entirely. Michael is a typical dumb-ass and ascribing smart-ass
stature to his comments demeans smart-asses everywhere.

As for his school bully status, again... school bullies everywhere are
insulted.

 I really wonder about the maturity level of some of you people!

I don't know what there is to wonder about; I thought the answer would be
fairly self-evident. However, maturity and technical prowess have a
tombolian intersection in my experience, and thus your quandary is
irrelevant.

RE: Kill new e-mail messages to previous employees - the most pra ctical solution

2002-06-26 Thread Shawn Connelly

Michael's answer is a typical smart-ass response that serves no other
purpose than to intentionally humiliate the questioner.

I don't believe a familiarity of initials necessarily constitutes knowledge
of a subject. Would it have been so difficult for you to write,
Distribution List?? No, I suppose not, you have to be the school bully!

I really wonder about the maturity level of some of you people!

Anyhow, I disagree with the suggestions thus far given.

The problem with David's suggestion is by adding them back into the DL, your
making those former employee email addresses legitimate again. By deleting
them from the DL, the server will bounce the mail. However, the admin still
receives a copy - I'm assuming that is your problem?

Until someone comes up with a KILLFILE type add-on, I found the best
solution is to make a inbox (server-based) rule to immediately delete those
messages.

Howto: From Outlook (2000),
- select tools / rules wizard;
- click the NEW button and select, check new messages when they arrive;
- click NEXT and select with specific words in subject or body;
- add in specific words, meaning add in [EMAIL PROTECTED] for each
former employee (I'm not too sure how many will fit in here but I have 22
now);
- click NEXT and select delete it as your action.

That's about it. Very effective and your server still bounces the bad
messages.

RE: Kill new e-mail messages to previous employees - the most pra ctical solution

2002-06-26 Thread Chris Scharff

32k limit on rules... suppose one could go to a server side script after
that however, if Jane Doe from the warehouse was subscribed to 57 joke
of the week mailing lists which neither check for bounces, nor offer
unsubscribe information, adding her to a black hole DL eliminates her mail
without much in terms of deleterious effects. If I actually don't want to
ever see the mail sent to that person and don't believe that bouncing it
will have significant impact on the flow, an empty DL sees relatively
effective (and more portable).

If I were designing my optimal solution though, I'd probably use a 3rd party
gateway or upgrade to E2K and write an event sink to 553 the message.

RE: Kill new e-mail messages to previous employees - the most pra ctical solution

2002-06-26 Thread Erik Sojka

We're not the National Board of Medical Examiners, but the National Board
of Medical Examiners.  There's a difference ;)

   I disagree entirely. Michael is a typical dumb-ass and
   ascribing smart-ass
   stature to his comments demeans smart-asses everywhere.

   As for his school bully status, again... school bullies
 everywhere are
   insulted.

I really wonder about the maturity level of some of you people!

   I don't know what there is to wonder about; I thought the
   answer would be
   fairly self-evident. However, maturity and technical
 prowess have a
   tombolian intersection in my experience, and thus your quandary is
   irrelevant.

Ok... so send us some sample exam questions then. *Sheesh* I'd think working
for the former would be much more fun.
