RE: could use opinions on Trend or Symantec product and or suppo rt

2002-12-23 Thread Michael A. Brown
I recommend the InterScan VirusWall for gateway type protection - web if you
have a proxy, mail can be scanned here before getting forwarded to your
email server etc. - and then I would put another Vendors' exchange antivirus
product on as an added measure just to be protected by 2 vendors. That 2nd
vendor's exchange antivirus won't see much action with the trend gateway for
mail in place. I haven't needed to call their support too much but have no
gripes. Symantec missed the goner virus for several hours after the other
vendors had caught it last year and they recently dropped the ball on the
quasi-virus friendgreetings...

Would anyone be will to give me their 2 cent on Trends Support?

Why... I am considering moving to trends products or Symantec products (from
another vendor to remain name less)
It seems Trend gets good talk here...but Ive been testing it some (not all
at this point yet)
Ive had an occasion where the scan product missed a IRC Trojan...
where Symantec detected it.
Ive talked to trend two days ago and as of yet no response...another call to
them a while ago
did not leave me with the warm fuzzies...

so opinions of either of the above products would be welcome.

2002-12-20 Thread Roger Seielstad
Trend is still the most responsive full range AV company I've dealt with.
And, in 2 years of running both Symantec and Trend together, I've not come
across anything that Trend didn't catch first. Maybe I'm just lucky then.

Anyway, most AV products have flaws and holes in theor detection process.

We use Trend's products on Exchange, ISA Desktop side and F-secure on

We think 2 products will cover holes flaws of each other.

RE: could use opinions on Trend or Symantec product and or suppo rt

2002-12-20 Thread Mellott, Bill
true I have not loaded up the exch piece yet...
I was trolling more for opinions/experiences on/with trends support..etc..

Im looking to do their whole Neatsuite (exch, desktop, server,
smtp-interscan)

MY Config. Office on desktop, all viruses, latest scan engine and
pattern..412..
I tried scan both ways, all and certain...missed ZIp file..found other
though...

I have only loaded up office on my workstation so far for testing.
I knew this zip file I had has a IRC trojan virus in it..so I kind'a
was using it as a ginnie pig to test trend..office on my desktop.
I figured if the office missed it ..which uses the same virus pattern as the
other components
I assumed the exchange piece would have missed it too...

I was a little surprise with the responses I got from trends tech
support..on 2 calls
thus I figured I would ask all parties on the list there opinions about
trends support, figuring
I would likely get enough feed back about their support to determine if I
just got a bad call. strong support, weak support etc

figuring the folks out on the list had way more exprience with the product
exchange wise or other then me...

just trolling for knowledge about experience on trends tech support...

Ok I feel dirty now having trolled...I'll go scrap of a few layers...

thanks
bill

Does Trend call their updates DATs? I always thought that was a McCrappy

FWIW, I havent used Trend's support, their corporate product rocks so I
havent had the need I guess. I also use their retail AV version at home,
but quite frankly, IMO, the new 2003 version of Peni$cillin bites and their
support for it is even worse.

What scan engine and DAT versions are you using?
Do you have it configured to scan all file types?

Subject: could use opinions on Trend or Symantec product and or support

Would anyone be will to give me their 2 cent on Trends Support?

Why... I am considering moving to trends products or Symantec products
(from another vendor to remain name less) It seems Trend gets good talk
here...but Ive been testing it some (not all at this point yet) Ive had
an occasion where the scan product missed a IRC Trojan... where
Symantec detected it. Ive talked to trend two days ago and as of yet no
response...another call to them a while ago did not leave me with the
warm fuzzies...

so opinions of either of the above products would be welcome.

Exch55, NT4/ W2K, desktop the whole suite thingy'

thanks
bill

RE: could use opinions on Trend or Symantec product and or suppo rt

2002-12-19 Thread David Wright
One MAJOR gripe with the Corporate Product...

It will not delete an ingected zip/rar file. It will detect it as infected, but
cannot delete it because it is locking the file itself...

A bit of bone-headed programming that they have been promising to fix for about a year
now.

Still love it... Far better than Norton... Just wish we did not have to manually
delete those pesky Klez .rar files...

Hth,
David
