Re: anti virus package for 5.5
we have antigen without outlook and everything works fine. but if you feel the need for a client, you can always use the good old exchange client. The only part that you'll notice is during the installation, antigen will look for the client. if there isn't one, the installation gives you an error, but it will still continue. exchange 5.5 sp4, nt4 sp6a multiple server environment my company is looking for a new anti-virus product. our contract with Norton is up and we have issues with it (one day the corp. edition is running, the next day it is disabled and a reboot will not fix. a complete uninstall and the re-install is needed, some servers it will not load at all, etc..). looking at other exchange aware packages, (sybari, panda etc) they want the outlook clinet installed on the exchange server for e-mail notifications. I don't hink you need it though. We have Antigen 6.2 and 6.5 on various 5.5 servers, and are sending notifications without having Outlook, or any Exchange client installed on the servers, and indeed without even having the Mail control panel. -Peter -Original Message- From: Steve Aldred [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, July 12, 2002 7:54 To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: anti virus package for 5.5 Here's a way to set up a MAPI profile on an Exchange box without installing Outlook. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q306962 (link may wrap) Steve -Original Message- From: Jon [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, July 11, 2002 6:35 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: anti virus package for 5.5 exchange 5.5 sp4, nt4 sp6a multiple server environment my company is looking for a new anti-virus product. our contract with Norton is up and we have issues with it (one day the corp. edition is running, the next day it is disabled and a reboot will not fix. a complete uninstall and the re-install is needed, some servers it will not load at all, etc..). looking at other exchange aware packages, (sybari, panda etc) they want the outlook clinet installed on the exchange server for e-mail notifications. RE: anti virus package for 5.5
We have Outlook installed because Inoculan used to use it, but we've now switched to Antigen. I've just installed Antigen on a test environment with NT4 SP5, E5.5 Sp4 for some Ip re-numbering tests. there's no Outlook installed, not even windows messaging. I tested a file strip notification and it works fine. Therefore, Outlook is definately NOT required for Antigen. We installed Antigen about 6 months ago and have had no problems at all yet. Previously Inoculan (v4 not InoculateIT) had similar problems to what you describe with Norton (and had to edit registry at times to get it to re-install!)
