[FairfieldLife] The 11 Dimensions

2009-08-19 Thread John
To All:

Physicists are speculating that there are now 11 dimensions based on their
calculations using quantum mechanics. However, we can only see four of them as
space/time (length, width, height and time). According to these scientists,
the rest are curled up or hidden in the continuum.

It appears to me that the remaining dimensions refer to consciousness, the
seven states of consciousness as MMY stated in the past. So, with this
perspective, it is possible for human beings to be multidimensional, reaching
the highest status in the universe by attaining Unity Consciousness.

 Maharishi: Prayer is always a path to realization, but prayer is on
 different levels. A man on a bicycle, a man in a car, a man in a high-speed
 train—all are on the same road, but one goes slower or one goes faster
 depending upon what one drives. Prayer on the verbal level has its
 effectiveness; prayer on the mental level is more effective; prayer from the
 Transcendental area of life has maximum effectiveness, because on that level
 thought has a frictionless flow—it travels instantly throughout Nature.
 Transcendental Meditation can be considered prayer from that finest level of
 consciousness, the Unified Field of Natural Law, where Total Natural Law is
 fully awake. Prayer from there is a direct entrance into an open door; at a
 grosser level, you knock and the door will open. Prayer can never be
 glorified enough. It is a supreme value of human consciousness.

[FairfieldLife] Repost: anaadimatparaM brahma

2009-08-19 Thread cardemaister
The second hemistich of BG 13, 13 goes like this:

anaadimatparaM [sic!] brahma
na sat tan naasad ucyate [na sat tat; na + asat; ucyate]

Now, 'anaadimatparam' is an exact transliteration of
the devanaagarii for instance in A.C's 'BG As It Is'.

Well, the word 'aadi' is a *substantive* which means e.g. 'beginning,
commencement'. The same word with the suffix '-mat' (aadimat)
is an *adjective*, 'having a beginning, beginningy'.

So, what happens if we add the negative prefix 'a,(before vowels) an' to
'aadi', which results to 'anaadi'? Oddly enough, instead
of staying a *substantive*, it becomes a bahuvriihi compound, and
thus, an *adjective*, 'having no beginning, existing from
eternity, beginningless'!

So, from a morphotactic point of view, 'anaadimatparam' should
perhaps be thought of consisting of 'anaadi' and 'matparam', because
'anaadimat' would be redundant, 'anaadi' as such being the
opposite of 'aadimat'.

That might make this line one of the trickiest in da Giitaa.

If we read it like this:

anaadi-matparam brahma

it means that Krishna actually sez Brahma(n) is below Him,
because the only possible alternative seems to be to read
'matparam' as a bahuvriihi 'having Me (mat*: Krishna) as the highest,
subordinate to Me', or somesuch.

From e.g. advaita POV that would be impossible, because in our
understanding they think nothing/no-one can be above
Brahma(n).

OTOH (although we are not sure, if it's possible), if 'matparam'
was perceived as a tatpuruSa compound, it would prolly mean
something like 'above Me'. I guess it's anybody's guess whether
Krishna could say something like that.

Shankara's resolution to that dilemma seems a bit Procrustean,
so to speak, because He explains that the (from His POV) reundant
suffix '-mat' is there only for metrical reasons, to make that
line have those 8 syllables of the anuSTubh metre (4 times 8
syllables). For Shankara the reading anaadi-matparaM... would
prolly be impossible. For Him the only alternative seems
to be (the redundant) 'anaadimat paraM brahma'

We rest our case...

* 'mat' is an indeclinable form used in compound words, from
the first person pronoun 'aham'; a homonymic suffix changes
substantives to adjectives, as in the above example.

Dennis is a true American hero. Thanks to activist Jane Hamsher, we have
enough House Reps like Dennis who have taken her pledge to vote against
any bill without a public option. Dennis saw this coming down before the
recess but the timing wasn't right for him to say anything about it
until Kathleen Sebelius let the cat out of the bag on Sunday saying,
[the public option] is not the essential element of comprehensive
health care reform. Yikes! It is THE MOST essential element. Don't you
love it when a politician accidentally tells the truth? Now she's out
there backpedaling like mad and White House is still trying to walk it
back. It ain't working. Responsible liberals are not buying Obama's pig.
Now the time is right for people like Dennis to step up and tell the
truth.

I got this email from Howard Dean last night:

Here's what I know: When we work together, we're unstoppable.

As my brother Jim said yesterday, the media has it wrong. The campaign
for the choice of a public health insurance option will be over only if
we quit or we've won. That decision is ours to make. Not the media's
decision - Not the insurance industry's decision - It's our decision.

We have the power and we're going to win.

Make no mistake, victory won't happen overnight. Just like President
Obama's campaign for President, this campaign is a long haul. Congress
returns in September for the final stretch to pass reform by the end of
the year.

We must have the resources to fuel this fight. If we raise $200,000 by
Monday, we can hit back immediately. Congress will know we're not
backing down in the face of pressure. We're standing up to get the job
done.

CONTRIBUTE RIGHT NOW AND DELIVER THE RESOURCES TO WIN
http://dfa2.convio.net/site/R?i=SIo2PDvWmPfV0CvbAJzRcw..

Victory takes courage, conviction, and commitment. It takes you. The
power to change America is in your hands. It always has been.

Thank you, for everything you do to win.

-Howard

Governor Howard Dean, M.D.
Founder, Democracy for America

[Dean is walking a fine line. He's saying the media has it wrong when
he should be saying they're in the tank with the insurance companies
along with Congress and the White House. I'm beginning to think this is
why Obama got rid of him as the DNC chair. Howard wasn't going to play
ball.  RD]

 How is the TMorg sitting with this? Any indication?

  (AP) A deal with Switzerland settling U.S. demands for the names of
  suspected tax dodgers from a Swiss bank has a lot of wealthy Americans
  with offshore accounts nervously running to their tax advisers - and the
  Internal Revenue Service.

  They are very frightened, said Richard Boggs, chief executive of
  Nationwide Tax Relief, a Los-Angeles-based tax firm that specializes in
  clients with tax debts exceeding $100,000. You have the super rich who
  are not used to being pushed around and they are finding themselves in
  unfamiliar territory.

  The U.S. and Swiss governments announced a court settlement last week
  http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/08/12/business/main5236509.shtml
  in efforts by the IRS http://www.irs.gov/ to force Zurich-based UBS
  AG to turn over the names of some 52,000 Americans believed to be hiding
  nearly $15 billion in assets in secret accounts.

  Justice Department and UBS lawyers told a federal judge in Miami in a
  brief conference call Wednesday they had initialed a final deal. But
  they did not disclose any details, such as how many of the 52,000 names
  sought by the IRS will be revealed.

  Even before the settlement, the high-profile case - coupled with other
  U.S. efforts to go after Americans hiding undeclared assets - has scared
  hundreds of tax dodgers to turn themselves in. Boggs said his firm has
  been taking on 100 new cases a month, a big increase over previous
  years.

  Peter Zeidenberg, a litigation partner at the law firm DLA Piper in
  Washington, said he, too, is he seeing more people with undeclared
  assets seeking information about their legal options.

  His advice: I don't think you have much of a choice but to come
  forward. ... I think the landscape is permanently changed.

  The IRS - the federal tax collection agency - long has had a policy that
  certain tax evaders who come forward before they are contacted by the
  agency usually can avoid jail time as long as they agree to pay back
  taxes, interest and hefty penalties. Drug dealers and money launderers
  need not apply. But if the money was earned legally, tax evaders can
  usually avoid criminal prosecution.

  In March, the IRS began a six-month amnesty program that sweetened the
  offer with reduced penalties for people with undeclared assets. IRS
  Commissioner Doug Shulman said the response has been unprecedented.

  Shulman would not say how many people have applied so far. But the IRS
  said 400 people applied to voluntarily disclose undeclared assets in a
  single week in July, compared with fewer than 100 applications all last
  year.

  The amnesty program, which ends Sept. 23, is part of a larger effort by
  federal authorities to crack down on international tax evaders.

  Each time someone walks through the door with a disclosure, we get more
  information. We get more information about other people. We get more
  information about other financial institutions, Shulman said. If
  people have been hiding assets in the past, they should be nervous, and
  they should be a lot more suspect about doing it in the future.

  The U.S. recently reached agreements with several countries, including
  Luxembourg and Switzerland, to share more tax information in the future,
  just as the IRS is strengthening its enforcement ranks.

  President Barack Obama, in his proposed 2010 budget, asked Congress to
  pay for 800 additional agents, examiners and lawyers to go after people
  who hide money overseas. Mr. Obama also wants Congress to require
  overseas financial institutions doing business in the U.S. to share more
  information with the IRS.

  Earlier this year, UBS admitted assisting U.S. citizens in evading taxes
  as part of a deferred prosecution agreement with the Justice Department.
  UBS agreed to disclose the names of about 300 American clients and pay a
  $780 million penalty. The IRS subsequently filed its case seeking the
  names of 52,000 additional U.S. taxpayers believed to be hiding assets

 The masquerade is over! The public option is ... dead.

 Health care reform is now a private option: WHICH FOR PROFIT INSURANCE
 COMPANY DO YOU WANT? You have to choose. And you have to pay. If you have a
 low income, under HR3200 government will subsidize the private insurance
 companies and you will still have to pay premiums, co-pays and deductibles.

 The Administration plan requires that everyone must have health insurance, so
 it is delivering tens of millions of new customers to the insurance
 companies. Health care? Not really. Insurance care! Absolutely. Cost
 controls? No chance.

 You will next hear talk about co-ops. The truth is that insurance company
 campaign contributions have co-opted the public interest.

 I need your help http://kucinich.us/contribute to spread the word and
 rally the nation around true health care reform which covers everyone and
 maintains fiscal integrity without breaking our nation's bank! Your
 contribution will empower our efforts to continue to fight for the
 single-payer, not-for-profit health care bill, HR676 Medicare for All,
 which I co-authored with Rep. John Conyers. The bill now has 85 sponsors in
 the House.

 The hotly-debated HR3200, the so-called health care reform bill, is nothing
 less than corporate welfare in the guise of social welfare and reform. It is
 a convoluted mess. The real debate which we should be having is not
 occurring.

 Removing the public option from a public bill paid for by public money is
 not in the public interest. What is left is a private option paid for with
 public money. Why should public money be spent on a private option which does
 not guarantee 100% coverage nor have any cost controls? A true public option
 would provide 30% savings immediately which would then cover the 1/3rd of the
 population who presently have no health care.

 Unfortunately, under HR3200, the Government is choosing winners and losers in
 the private sector; proposing to spend public funds on subsidizing insurance
 companies who make money not providing health care. This process will insure
 only the expansion of profits. Gone is the debate over cost.

 As a result of current negotiations, the Medicare Part D rip-off will
 continue for another decade, further fleecing senior citizens. Drug
 importation has been dropped, so no inexpensive drugs can be accessed from
 other nations.

 Instead we are told the pharmaceutical companies will accept a 2% cut in the
 growth rate of their profits - they call this cost control!

 If the matter were not so serious, it would be farcical: The executive branch
 pretends that the proposed health care reforms are something they are not.
 The legislation is being attacked for something it is not. Congressional
 leadership and the White House defend the legislation, pretending it actually
 is the very proposal that is being attacked. But it is not.

 A commonsense government health care reform policy would insure that every
 single American has full access to health care by expanding Medicare to cover
 everyone under a Single Payer System. We are already paying for a universal
 standard of care, it is just we are not getting it.

 I need your help to spread the word and rally the nation around true health
 care reform which covers everyone and maintains fiscal integrity without
 subsidizing insurance and pharmaceutical companies and breaking our nation's
 bank!

 My voice in Congress will continue to challenge the special interests who do
 not want single-payer to succeed. I need you to join me in combating the
 special and corporate interests who spend millions to try to win this
 Congressional seat. With your help WE will win again. With your help I will
 continue to represent your concerns, be YOUR VOICE in the United States
 Congress, and be the voice for health care for all Americans!

 Please http://kucinich.us/contribute  contribute $25, $50, $100 in support
 of my campaign. Please contribute now.

 With your help, we can accomplish ANYTHING in America. Persistence,
 dedication, truth and courage will lead the way and win out in the end.

Sen. Voinovich (R-OH) : Southern Republicans are sinking GOP

~~~ Republicans have become more rural and less educated ~~~
In an interview on Hardball, former Rep. Tom Davis (R-VA) followed up on
recent comments made by Sen. George Voinovich (R-OH) about how the
Republican party is losing its appeal.
Said Davis: Politics has been defined by culture over the last few
cycles, and we've become a rural party and a Southern party. We've been
losing inner suburbs and the like. A lot of this was the policies of the
Bush administration.
Furthermore, as the GOP increased its focus on cultural issues, it also
caused a widening education gap.
Davis added: The high education areas Obama carried -- 78 of the 100
counties with the highest education. McCain carried 88 of the 100
counties with the lowest education. As we move to cultural politics,
that's been the shift.
   (AP)   A deal with Switzerland settling U.S. demands for the names of
   suspected tax dodgers from a Swiss bank has a lot of wealthy Americans
   with offshore accounts nervously running to their tax advisers - and the
   Internal Revenue Service.
   They are very frightened, said Richard Boggs, chief executive of
   Nationwide Tax Relief, a Los-Angeles-based tax firm that specializes in
   clients with tax debts exceeding $100,000. You have the super rich who
   are not used to being pushed around and they are finding themselves in
   unfamiliar territory.
   The U.S. and Swiss governments announced a court settlement last week
   http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/08/12/business/main5236509.shtml
   in efforts by the IRS http://www.irs.gov/  to force Zurich-based UBS
   AG to turn over the names of some 52,000 Americans believed to be hiding
   nearly $15 billion in assets in secret accounts.
   Justice Department and UBS lawyers told a federal judge in Miami in a
   brief conference call Wednesday they had initialed a final deal. But
   they did not disclose any details, such as how many of the 52,000 names
   sought by the IRS will be revealed.
   Even before the settlement, the high-profile case - coupled with other
   U.S. efforts to go after Americans hiding undeclared assets - has scared
   hundreds of tax dodgers to turn themselves in. Boggs said his firm has
   been taking on 100 new cases a month, a big increase over previous
   years.
   Peter Zeidenberg, a litigation partner at the law firm DLA Piper in
   Washington, said he, too, is he seeing more people with undeclared
   assets seeking information about their legal options.
   His advice: I don't think you have much of a choice but to come
   forward. ... I think the landscape is permanently changed.
   The IRS - the federal tax collection agency - long has had a policy that
   certain tax evaders who come forward before they are contacted by the
   agency usually can avoid jail time as long as they agree to pay back
   taxes, interest and hefty penalties. Drug dealers and money launderers
   need not apply. But if the money was earned legally, tax evaders can
   usually avoid criminal prosecution.
   In March, the IRS began a six-month amnesty program that sweetened the
   offer with reduced penalties for people with undeclared assets. IRS
   Commissioner Doug Shulman said the response has been unprecedented.
   Shulman would not say how many people have applied so far. But the IRS
   said 400 people applied to voluntarily disclose undeclared assets in a
   single week in July, compared with fewer than 100 applications all last
   year.
   The amnesty program, which ends Sept. 23, is part of a larger effort by
   federal authorities to crack down on international tax evaders.
   Each time someone walks through the door with a disclosure, we get more
   information. We get more information about other people. We get more
   information about other financial institutions, Shulman said. If
   people have been hiding assets in the past, they should be nervous, and
   they should be a lot more suspect about doing it in the future.
   The U.S. recently reached agreements with several countries, including
   Luxembourg and Switzerland, to share more tax information in the future,
   just as the IRS is strengthening its enforcement ranks.
   President Barack Obama, in his proposed 2010 budget, asked Congress to
   pay for 800 additional agents, examiners and lawyers to go after people
   who hide money overseas. Mr. Obama also wants Congress to require
   overseas financial institutions doing business in the U.S. to share more
   information with the IRS.
   Earlier this year, UBS admitted assisting U.S. citizens in evading taxes
   as part of a deferred prosecution agreement with the Justice Department.
   UBS agreed to disclose the names of about 300 American clients and pay a
   $780 million penalty. The IRS subsequently filed its case seeking the
World population projected to reach 7 billion in 2011
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The world's population is forecast to hit 7 billion
in 2011, the vast majority of its growth coming in developing and, in
many cases, the poorest nations, a report released Wednesday said.
  [Riders cram into a train last month in New Delhi, India. India's
population is expected to be 1.7 billion by 2050.]
Riders cram into a train last month in New Delhi,
India. India's population is expected to be 1.7
billion by 2050.
  [4]
A staggering 97 percent of global growth over the next 40 years will
happen in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, according to
the Population Reference Bureau's 2009 World Population Data Sheet.
The great bulk of today's 1.2 billion youth -- nearly 90 percent -- are
in developing countries, said Carl Haub, a co-author of the report.
Eight in 10 of those youth live in Africa and Asia.
During the next few decades, these young people will most likely
continue the current trend of moving from rural areas to cities in
search of education and training opportunities, gainful employment, and
adequate health care, Haub continued, calling it one of the major
social questions of the next few decades.
In the developed world, the United States and Canada will account for
most of the growth -- half from immigration and half from a natural
increase in the population -- births minus deaths, according to the
report.
High fertility rates and a young population base in the developing world
will fuel most of the growth, especially in Africa, where women often
give birth to six or seven children over a lifetime, the report says.
The number is about two in the United States and 1.5 in Canada.
A stark contrast can be drawn between Uganda
http://topics.edition.cnn.com/topics/Uganda  and Canada, which
currently have about 34 million and 31 million residents, respectively.
By 2050, Canada's population is projected to be 42 million, while
Uganda's is expected to soar to 96 million, more than tripling.
Even with declining fertility rates in many countries, world population
is still growing at a rapid rate, said Bill Butz, president of the
bureau
http://topics.edition.cnn.com/topics/Population_Reference_Bureau .
The increase from 6 billion to 7 billion is likely to take 12 years, as
did the increase from 5 billion to 6 billion. Both events are
unprecedented in world history.
By 2050, India http://topics.edition.cnn.com/topics/India  is
projected to be the world's most populous nation at 1.7 billion,
overtaking current leader China, which is forecast to hit 1.4 billion.
The United States is expected to reach 439 million for No. 3 on the
list.
When this image was repudiated by a majority of Americans in a massive
landslide, it simply didn't compute. How could this have happened? How
could the cry of Drill, baby, drill have been beaten by a supposedly
big government black guy? So a streak that has always been there in the
American right's world-view -- to deny reality, and argue against a
demonic phantasm of their own creation -- has swollen. Now it is all
they can see.
Since Obama's rise, the US right has been skipping frantically from one
fantasy to another, like a person in the throes of a mental breakdown.
It started when they claimed he was a secret Muslim, and -- at the same
time -- that he was a member of a black nationalist church that hated
white people. Then, once these arguments were rejected and Obama won,
they began to argue he was born in Kenya and secretly smuggled into the
United States as a baby, and the Hawaiian authorities conspired to fake
his US birth certificate. So he is ineligible to rule and the office of
President should pass to... the Republican runner-up, John McCain.
These aren't fringe phenomena: a Research 2000 poll
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/07/31/new-poll-less-than-half-o_n_24\
8470.html  found that a majority of Republicans and Southerners say
Obama wasn't born in the US, or aren't sure. A steady steam of
Republican congressmen have been jabbering that Obama has questions to
answer. No amount of hard evidence -- here's his birth certificate,
here's a picture of his mother heavily pregnant in Hawaii, here's the
announcement of his birth in the local Hawaiian paper -- can pierce this
conviction.
This trend has reached its apotheosis this summer with the Republican
Party claiming en masse that Obama wants to set up death panels to
euthanize the old and disabled. Yes: Sarah Palin really has claimed --
with a straight face -- that Barack Obama wants to kill her baby.
You have to admire the audacity of the right. Here's what's actually
happening. The US is the only major industrialized country that does not
provide regular healthcare to all its citizens. Instead, they are
required to provide for themselves -- and just under 50 million people
can't afford the insurance. As a result, 18,000 US citizens die every
year needlessly, because they can't access the care they require. That's
equivalent to six 9/11s, every year, year on year. Yet the Republicans
have accused the Democrats who are trying to stop all this death by
extending healthcare of being killers -- and they have successfully
managed to put them on the defensive.
The Republicans want to defend the existing system, not least because
they are given massive sums of money by the private medical firms who
benefit from the deadly status quo. But they can't do so honestly: some
70 percent of Americans say it is immoral to retain a medical system
that doesn't cover all citizens. So they have to invent lies to make any
life-saving extension of healthcare sound depraved.
A few months ago, a recent board member for several private health
corporations called Betsy McCaughey noticed a clause in the proposed
healthcare legislation that would pay for old people to see a doctor and
write a living will. They could stipulate when (if at all) they would
like to be withdrawn. It's totally voluntary. Many people want it: I
know I wouldn't want to be kept alive for a few extra months if I was
only going to be in agony and unable to speak. But McCaughey started the
rumor that this was a form of euthanasia, where old people would be
forced to agree to death. This was then stretched somehow to include the
disabled. It was flatly untrue -- but the right had their talking point,
Palin declared the system downright evil, and they were off.
It's been amazingly successful. Now, every conversation about healthcare
has to begin with a Democrat explaining at great length that, no, they
are not in favor of killing the elderly -- while Republicans get away
with defending a status quo that kills 18,000 people a year. The
hypocrisy was startling: when Sarah Palin was Governor of Alaska, she
encouraged citizens there to take out living wills. Almost all the
Republicans leading the charge against death panels have voted for
living wills in the past. But the lie has done its work: a confetti of
distractions has been thrown up, and support is leaking away from the
plan
How changing the lives of
IN THE 19TH CENTURY, the paramount moral challenge was slavery. In the 20th
century, it was totalitarianism. In this century, it is the brutality inflicted
on so many women and girls around the globe: sex trafficking, acid attacks,
bride burnings and mass rape.
Yet if the injustices that women in poor countries suffer are of paramount
importance, in an economic and geopolitical sense the opportunity they
represent is even greater. Women hold up half the sky, in the words of a
Chinese saying, yet that's mostly an aspiration: in a large slice of the world,
girls are uneducated and women marginalized, and it's not an accident that
those same countries are disproportionately mired in poverty and riven by
fundamentalism and chaos. There's a growing recognition among everyone from the
World Bank to the U.S. military's Joint Chiefs of Staff to aid organizations
like CARE that focusing on women and girls is the most effective way to fight
global poverty and extremism. That's why foreign aid is increasingly directed
to women. The world is awakening to a powerful truth: Women and girls aren't
the problem; they're the solution.
2009-08-19 Thread Bhairitu
I recall during my SCI course in the 1973 that we discussed the Club of
Rome reports (this was not on the SCI talking points but just talk
during discussion).   The import of those reports was the danger of
expanding population.  Never in those reports do I recall any mention of
eugenics however many wingnuts seem to want to point to the Club of Rome
as advocating it.   The effort was to raise the consciousness (there the
SCI tie-in) of emerging nations to reduce family size.  So many of these
nations still have women giving birth to up to 9 children.  Much of this
is the belief that some will survive to take care of them in old age.
They never think of the consequences and expense of such large families
and the poor quality of life that the children will experience.
The same stupidity exists in the US with fundie Christians who want to
have children like puppies.   The more the merrier.   While most of the
brighter and sometimes wealthier population either have small families
or no children at all.
With proper government programs (I would certainly never expect the
private sector to solve the population problem) people should be
encouraged to have smaller families and start a population decline.
There are of course problems that need to be ironed out.  China is
experiencing an aging population while the younger population is in
decline.  Hence they are experiencing problems funding retirement for an
aging population.  We will have the same problem here.  I only point
this out because our resident wingnuts will bring it up as they have
before.   I think the problem can be solved however and that there are
many solutions.
One of the problems is that we have an economic meme that more is
better.  Obviously that benefits the the corporatists as it keeps a
steady flow of rice in to their rice bowl or should I say rice truck.
But there is much true in the old slogan live simply so others may
simply live.  Sure we have folks who may have never had prosperity
still in this economic day in age with reducing odds that they'll ever
experience it.   But look around you and see how much crap you can do
without.  How many of us have homes cluttered with junk that we haven't
disposed of and when we do we what was I thinking that I bought this?
One of my favorite prognosticators is Gerald Celente who recently said
the economy will crash and what will result is simpler societies.  Your
food will be locally grown and in season (which is healthier).   Because
there will be no huge multinational behemoth corporations which actually
reduce employment there will be jobs for those that want them.  And I
would add that we probably will come to a point where either we will pay
people not to work or if people work it'll be like India at least as it
was when I visited 10 years ago where most people only wanted to work 10
hour weeks because it was enough to put food on the table and a roof
over their heads. Somehow the populace in the west has been brainwashed
into believing that work is holy.  Just think how much more time you
could have on FFL if you didn't have to work (though maybe most here are
most here unemployed).  Or maybe instead and more mentally  healthy a
local coffee klatch of similarly minded people.
The current economic problems have been brought on by the expansion of
population and the inability for our institutions to adapt to it.
Buckminster Fuller pointed this out long ago.  The establishment could
solve this problem but they would have to give up control in doing so.
Democrats Seem Set to Go It Alone on a Health Bill
WASHINGTON — Given hardening Republican opposition to Congressional
health care proposals, Democrats now say they see little chance of the
minority's cooperation in approving any overhaul, and are
increasingly focused on drawing support for a final plan from within
their own ranks.
Top Democrats said Tuesday that their go-it-alone view was being shaped
by what they saw as Republicans' purposely strident tone against
health care legislation during this month's Congressional recess, as
well as remarks by leading Republicans that current proposals were
flawed beyond repair.
Rahm Emanuel
http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/e/rahm_emanu\
el/index.html?inline=nyt-per , the White House chief of staff, said the
heated opposition was evidence that Republicans had made a political
calculation to draw a line against any health care changes, the latest
in a string of major administration proposals that Republicans have
opposed.
The Republican leadership, Mr. Emanuel said, has made a
strategic decision  that defeating President Obama
http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/o/barack_oba\
ma/index.html?inline=nyt-per 's health care proposal is more
important for their political goals than solving the health insurance
http://topics.nytimes.com/top/news/health/diseasesconditionsandhealthto\
pics/health_insurance_and_managed_care/index.html?inline=nyt-classifier
problems that Americans face every day.
The Democratic shift may not make producing a final bill much easier.
The party must still reconcile the views of moderate and conservative
Democrats worried about the cost and scope of the legislation with those
of more liberal lawmakers determined to win a government-run insurance
option to compete with private insurers.
On the other hand, such a change could alter the dynamic of talks
surrounding health care legislation, and even change the substance of a
final bill. With no need to negotiate with Republicans, Democrats might
be better able to move more quickly, relying on their large majorities
in both houses.
Democratic senators might feel more empowered, for example, to define
the authority of the nonprofit insurance cooperatives that are emerging
as an alternative to a public insurance plan.
Republicans have used the Congressional break to dig in hard against the
overhaul outline drawn by Democrats. The Senate's No. 2 Republican,
Jon Kyl
http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/k/jon_kyl/in\
dex.html?inline=nyt-per  of Arizona, is the latest to weigh in
strongly, saying Tuesday that the public response lawmakers were seeing
over the summer break should persuade Democrats to scrap their approach
and start over.
I think it is safe to say there are a huge number of big issues
that people have, Mr. Kyl told reporters in a conference call from
Arizona. There is no way that Republicans are going to support a
trillion-dollar-plus bill.
The White House has also interpreted critical comments by Senator
Charles E. Grassley
http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/g/charles_e_\
grassley/index.html?inline=nyt-per  of Iowa, the top Republican
negotiator in a crucial Finance Committee effort to reach a bipartisan
compromise, as a sign that there is little hope of reaching a deal
politically acceptable to both parties.
Mr. Grassley, who is facing the possibility of a Republican primary
challenge next year, has gotten an earful in traveling around his home
state. At one gathering last week, in a city park in the central Iowa
town of Adel, a man rose from the crowd and urged him to stand up
and fight the Democratic plans. If he does not, the man yelled,
we will vote you out!
The White House, carefully following Mr. Grassley's activities,
presumed he was no longer interested in negotiating with Democrats after
he initially made no effort to debunk misinformation that the
legislation could lead to death panels empowered to judge who
would receive care.
Citing a packed schedule, Mr. Grassley has also put off plans for the
bipartisan group of Finance Committee negotiators to meet in either Iowa
or Maine, the home of another Republican member of the group, Senator
Olympia J. Snowe
http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/s/olympia_j_\
snowe/index.html?inline=nyt-per , before Congress resumes.
Further, Mr. Grassley said this week that he would vote against a bill
unless it had wide support from Republicans, even if it included all the
provisions he wanted. I am negotiating for Republicans, he
told MSNBC.
In an interview on Tuesday, Mr. Grassley said he had simply been
repeating earlier comments that he would not support a measure that did
not have significant Republican support. He said that raucous
town-hall-style meetings might have made the job of reaching a
compromise harder, but that he had not given up.
It may be more difficult than it was before, he said. I
am intent on
This is a movie that played a few theaters a couple weeks back but was
also released at the same time.  If you look at the cast you have to
wonder why:  Forest Whitaker, Kate Beckinsale, Guy Pearce, Dakota
Fanning, Jean Tripplehorn, Robin Weigert, Jennifer Hudson etc.  The
director in the commentary explains this was a script that have been
making the rounds in Hollywood for years.  No studio seemed to want to
touch it.  The movie is about a group of people who lives are changed
and intertwined by a shooting in a cafe.   Dakota Fanning plays a
teenage girl who becomes religious after the incident puzzling friends
and family since she never had a interest before.  Whittaker plays a
terminal cancer patient who survives the shooting and believes his luck
has changed so goes gambling.  Guy Pearce plays a doctor who leaves the
cafe just before the shooting but winds up treating its victims.
There are many issues here that FFL'ers would find interesting.
Especially the religious issue which probably made the studio decide it
would not have wide theater distribution since it is actually critical
of religious beliefs.  It deals heavily with the illusions people have a
as result of the event.  Well worth a watch.
Winged Creatures is the non-US title of the film.
Interesting that Dennis Kucinich is
against the most popular bill. Here's
Kucinich:
The hotly-debated HR3200, the so-called health care reform bill, is nothing
less than corporate welfare in the guise of social welfare and reform. It is a
convoluted mess. The real debate which we should be having is not occurring.
Removing the public option from a public bill paid for by public money is
not in the public interest. What is left is a private option paid for with
public money. Why should public money be spent on a private option which does
not guarantee 100% coverage nor have any cost controls? A true public option
would provide 30% savings immediately which would then cover the 1/3rd of the
population who presently have no healthcare.
Patrick again:
Could it be the Republicans dislike HR3200
for the same reasons Kucinich condemns it?
I'm not following the players closely enough
to tell.
Dear Mr. Hancock
The sight of you standing there armed as you interviewed
http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/2009/08/assault-rifle-intervi\
ew-outside-obama-event-in-phoenix-was-planned.php  the young man with
an assault rifle at the Obama appearance a few days ago prompted strange
but familiar feelings deep within me. Familiar, because I've felt these
feelings many times in my life, but strange, because I haven't had them
since the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995.
What I felt as I saw you and the eleven other gun-toting patriots
intimidating the Obamunists was something I call the Brotherhood of the
Gun. It's hard for me to describe what that feeling is exactly--only
that it is a feeling of power which overcomes my usual feelings of
inadequacy and impotence. Where once I felt beleaguered by the capable
and intelligent, I now feel like a God who has power over life and
death. It feels good. I feel invincible.
After doing a little reading about you, I've learned that you've turned
this feeling into something real, an actual brotherhood of flesh and
blood human beings rather than the rag tag collection of inflatable men
and action figures to which I've grown accustomed. Your real life
Brotherhood of the Gun is vast. It includes patriots,
Teabagger-Americans, and even a few ex-convicts.
He was sent to prison in 1996 for stockpiling arms and explosives and
conspiring to bomb federal buildings--a key piece of evidence was a
ed-plus-a-love-for-guns.html?pagewanted=1  to bring down those
I can see why you are so close to Dean. He truly embodies the spirit of
the Brotherhood of the Gun. As a bachelor, he remained faithful to his
one true love, his rifle named Shirley, caressing her
drifted off to sleep. And there is certainly no doubt about his
commitment to ways of the brotherhood. He was once ejected from a
Soldier of Fortune event for being too gung ho.
You just got to love a guy who's too gung ho for Soldier of Fortune
http://www.sofmag.com/wp/ , and it looks like you do (in a purely
heterosexual kind of way, no doubt). You can see it in the happiness you
expressed when you shared the joy of urinal targets
http://dagny.betterthanyours.com/pipermail/update_ernesthancock.com/200\
I'd like to become a part of your brotherhood. Please let me know when
you next plan to intimidate lesser Americans with a display of your
weapons. I'd also like to return the favor by inviting you to the
compound for a weekend of Spartan-style wrestling. It's the highest
honor a warrior may bestow upon another--to face each other as our
ancient Spartan Warrior forbears did, naked and oiled in the circle of
manly combat, a valiant struggle for domination until the victor finally
drives home his Rigid Spear of Manly Domination.
I'd like that. Please bring Dean along too. His review
the movie, 300, makes me think he'd enjoy it.
Heterosexually yours,
“The July 2009 Invincible America Assembly was perfect in every way.”
It’s hard to argue with perfection.
Our Super Radiance numbers averaged more than 2,000 every day.
What happened nationwide?
* No hurricanes — No hurricanes or tropical storms penetrated U.S.
borders.
* Crime Rate Plummets—On July 20, theWashington Post reported, “Violent
crime has plummeted in the Washington area and in major cities across the
country, a trend criminologists describe as baffling and unexpected.”
And what happened here?
* Great experiences — #1 experiences in the Golden Domes have been
deeper and richer than ever.
* Maharishi Vedic Pandit performance — 2,000 of us attended a live
performance of Maha Rudra Abhishek in the Golden Dome on Guru Purnima.
* More new Sidhas — More than 60 new Yogic Flyers graduated from CIC.
* Advanced training — More than 200 Governors attended Governor
Refresher Course and Workshop.
* Great weather! — July weather mildest on record ever for Iowa.
Now it’s August. Many visitors have left. Our Super Radiance numbers are in a
lull until the MUM students return and the next group of Maharishi Vedic
Pandits arrive.
We urgently need all local Sidhas to attend morning and evening programs.
Let’s give our President a burst of support from the heartland — coherence in
collective consciousness so that the country continues moving forward
harmoniously.
Our group has accomplished wonders. Let’s keep the momentum of positivity
growing in America. Thank you for being here in wonderful Fairfield and
Maharishis's lectures on OM is not yet available on you-tube. Please remeber
My Initiator was on one of the first TTC's in Rishikesh, and in reciting OM
here there and everywhere from the Vedas in front of everybody Maharishi
stopped Her saying; Why do you say OM, don't you want the get married ?
She stopped the recitation of OM, and later got happily married to a Shaman
Maharishi loved until his death in 1995, and probably much longer.
Shemp could OM about as much as he pleases, as long as he is willing to pay
 The Republican Party Is Turning Into A Cult
 http://www.huffingtonpost.com/johann-hari/the-republican-party-is-t_b_2\
 62594.html
 Something strange has happened in America in the nine months since
 Barack Obama was elected. It has best been summarized by the comedian
 Bill Maher: The Democrats have moved to the right, and the Republicans
 have moved to a mental hospital.
 The election of Obama -- a center-left black man -- as a successor to
 George W. Bush has scrambled the core American right's view of their
 country. In their gut, they saw the US as a white-skinned, right-wing
 nation forever shaped like Sarah Palin.
 When this image was repudiated by a majority of Americans in a massive
 landslide, it simply didn't compute. How could this have happened? How
 could the cry of Drill, baby, drill have been beaten by a supposedly
 big government black guy? So a streak that has always been there in the
 American right's world-view -- to deny reality, and argue against a
 demonic phantasm of their own creation -- has swollen. Now it is all
 they can see.
 Since Obama's rise, the US right has been skipping frantically from one
 fantasy to another, like a person in the throes of a mental breakdown.
 It started when they claimed he was a secret Muslim, and -- at the same
 time -- that he was a member of a black nationalist church that hated
 white people. Then, once these arguments were rejected and Obama won,
 they began to argue he was born in Kenya and secretly smuggled into the
 United States as a baby, and the Hawaiian authorities conspired to fake
 his US birth certificate. So he is ineligible to rule and the office of
 President should pass to... the Republican runner-up, John McCain.
 These aren't fringe phenomena: a Research 2000 poll
 http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/07/31/new-poll-less-than-half-o_n_24\
 8470.html  found that a majority of Republicans and Southerners say
 Obama wasn't born in the US, or aren't sure. A steady steam of
 Republican congressmen have been jabbering that Obama has questions to
 answer. No amount of hard evidence -- here's his birth certificate,
 here's a picture of his mother heavily pregnant in Hawaii, here's the
 announcement of his birth in the local Hawaiian paper -- can pierce this
 conviction.
 This trend has reached its apotheosis this summer with the Republican
 Party claiming en masse that Obama wants to set up death panels to
 euthanize the old and disabled. Yes: Sarah Palin really has claimed --
 with a straight face -- that Barack Obama wants to kill her baby.
 You have to admire the audacity of the right. Here's what's actually
 happening. The US is the only major industrialized country that does not
 provide regular healthcare to all its citizens. Instead, they are
 required to provide for themselves -- and just under 50 million people
 can't afford the insurance. As a result, 18,000 US citizens die every
 year needlessly, because they can't access the care they require. That's
 equivalent to six 9/11s, every year, year on year. Yet the Republicans
 have accused the Democrats who are trying to stop all this death by
 extending healthcare of being killers -- and they have successfully
 managed to put them on the defensive.
 The Republicans want to defend the existing system, not least because
 they are given massive sums of money by the private medical firms who
 benefit from the deadly status quo. But they can't do so honestly: some
 70 percent of Americans say it is immoral to retain a medical system
 that doesn't cover all citizens. So they have to invent lies to make any
 life-saving extension of healthcare sound depraved.
 A few months ago, a recent board member for several private health
 corporations called Betsy McCaughey noticed a clause in the proposed
 healthcare legislation that would pay for old people to see a doctor and
 write a living will. They could stipulate when (if at all) they would
 like to be withdrawn. It's totally voluntary. Many people want it: I
 know I wouldn't want to be kept alive for a few extra months if I was
 only going to be in agony and unable to speak. But McCaughey started the
 rumor that this was a form of euthanasia, where old people would be
 forced to agree to death. This was then stretched somehow to include the
 disabled. It was flatly untrue -- but the right had their talking point,
 Palin declared the system downright evil, and they were off.
 It's been amazingly successful. Now, every conversation about healthcare
 has to begin with a Democrat explaining at great length that, no, they
 are not in favor of killing the elderly -- while Republicans get away
 with defending a status quo that kills 18,000 people a year. The
 hypocrisy was startling: when Sarah Palin was Governor of Alaska, she
 encouraged citizens there to take out
I need you to knock on doors, talk to neighbors, spread the facts and speak
the truth, he told religious leaders and reporters on a conference call
that was streamed over the Web at faithforhealth.org.
This debate over health care goes to the heart of who we are as a people,
he said. I believe that nobody in America should be denied basic health
care because he or she lacks health insurance.
Some 140,000 people participated in the call, the coalition of more than 30
faith-based groups that organized the event said in a written statement.
Obama urged the listeners to reject misinformation about his plans, noting,
There are some folks out there who are, frankly, bearing false witness.
[FairfieldLife] Glenn Greenwald finally gets it
2009-08-19 Thread raunchydog
That's obviously true. In fact, it's so obviously true that no matter how dumb
one might think Democrats are, they're certainly not so dumb that they failed
to realize that the GOP was highly unlikely to help Obama pass health care
reform no matter what the bill contained. From the start, it's been obvious to
everyone — the Obama White House and Senate Democrats included — that the GOP
would not help Obama pass health care reform. Why would the GOP want to help
Obama achieve one of his most important and politically profitable goals? Of
course they were going to try to sabotage the entire project and would oppose
health care reform no matter what form it took. Everyone knew that from the
start for exactly the reason that it was so obvious to Benen.
The attempt to attract GOP support was the pretext which Democrats used to
compromise continuously and water down the bill.  But -- given the
impossibility of achieving that goal -- isn't it fairly obvious that a desire
for GOP support wasn't really the reason the Democrats were constantly watering
down their own bill?  Given the White House's central role in negotiating a
secret deal with the pharmaceutical industry, its betrayal of Obama's clear
promise to conduct negotiations out in the open (on C-SPAN no less), Rahm's
protection of Blue Dogs and accompanying attacks on progressives, and the
complete lack of any pressure exerted on allegedly obstructionists centrists,
it seems rather clear that the bill has been watered down, and the public
option jettisoned, because that's the bill they want -- this was the plan all
along.
[Well no shit, Sherlock! Gee, someone smarter than me has finally figured it
out. One more time: Because that's the bill they want — this was the plan all
along. RD]
HBO is being Enlightened by Laura Dern and Mike White.
The pay cable network is developing a single-camera comedy to be written
determined to live an enlightened life, creating havoc at home and work.
There are so many dysfunctional types of characters populating cable
You might have a point Bill, believers will believe anything. I can't wait to
see the look on their faces when the rabbit coming out of Obama's magical hat
complains he couldn't get treatment for syphilis because of Obama's crappy
co-ops.
Jane Hamsher wrote this today:
Ambinder: White House Won't Buckle To Liberal Demands For Public Plan
I know people are reluctant to believe that the President has no plans to
include a public option in his health care bill, but according to Marc
Ambinder, that is indeed the truth:
The White House and Senate Democrats won't buckle to demands from liberals
that they revise their health care strategy, officials said today.
Liberals are demanding the inclusion of a public plan.  The White House won't
revise their strategy to accommodate them.
Glenzilla:
The attempt to attract GOP support was the pretext which Democrats used to
compromise continuously and water down the bill.  But -- given the
impossibility of achieving that goal -- isn't it fairly obvious that a desire
for GOP support wasn't really the reason the Democrats were constantly watering
it seems rather clear that the bill has been watered down, and the public
option jettisoned, because that's the bill they want -- this was the plan all
along.
Max Baucus (who is negotiating the White House's bill) today reaffirmed his
commitment to have a bipartisan bill. Since Republicans will never sign off
on a public plan, that's not-so-subtle code for no public plan.  And any time
anyone says that, including President Obama, that is in fact what they're
saying.
Support members of Congress who say no public plan, no bill.
Subject: Some news to enjoy
In April Paul McCartney performed at a concert in New York to support
the David Lynch foundation, David's foundation has the goal of bringing the TM
technique to as many students as possible in the US and around the world. Since
April, there has been an increase in TM initiations nationwide.
As a surprise guest, Jerry Seinfeld opened the show, mentioning that
he has been meditating for 37 years. Howard Stern gave a moving
talk about how TM saved his mothers life. (She had serious health
prob lems)
The high visibility of the concert has opened up relationships with
other charitable foundations. The DOE foundation is a New York based
charity that has rehab programs for the homeless. So far, two hundred
homeless men have learned TM as a part of their rehabilitation program.
The David Lynch foundation has also reached out to Native Americans.
TM has been taught to a number of members of the Ho Chunk tribe.
Eighty percent of Native Americans suffer=2 0from diabetes (along with
other problems) Meditation is the only thing that has helped.
A member of the Ho Chunk tribe was asked if they were concerned that
this knowledge came from India . The response was: This is the wisdom
of the Creator, it does not matter if it comes from ten miles or
ten thousand miles away.
David will be hosting a conference for Native American leaders at MUM in
Fairfield
in September. At this time there is a real Buzz among the leaders of the
600 Native American tribes in the U.S. about TM and the upcoming conference.
Ashley Deans, head of the Maharishi School in Fairfield has been traveling
the globe promoting TM in education. He showed us slides of TM being used in
schools in Japan , Europe, and Palestine . Yes, Palestinians have been learning
TM in an educational setting. He also mentioned that 2000 monks have learned TM
in Thailand , and 1000 monks in Cambodia are soon to learn. One hundred members
of the Research department for education in san Francisco heard a presentation
on the students that are now pracitcing the TM technique in Bay Area schools.
Their comment was, We should be doing this each day... So thirty
administrators are now meditating, with others planning to start.
At this point in time there are 140 Maharishi schools in India . when Ashley
Deans
gave an introductory lecture on TM in Turkey , the whole village came to the
lecture.
He spoke to educators in Lebanon , and after hearing of the interest of the
school
officials, he spoke to the education minister of the nation mentioning that she
would
soon hear from educators about the program. Her response was:
I have already heard from the schools, and I have already approved it.
In Trinidad TM has been introduced into a few schools and now there are enough
sidhas
to provide coherence for the nation.
In Brazil the mayor of Rio de Janeiro is strong on promoting the TM program,
and has expressed the desire that 1 million students learn meditation.
School officials in South Korea have expressed interest in the TM program,
hoping that this can reduce the tension and protect the nation.
In 19 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean , 100,000 students learned
TM in the past four years. In the US 3000 have learned along with 800 school
administrators.
Some of the latest news is that Sting, Stevie Wonder and Tom Petty will
perform in a benefit concert for the David Lynch foundation20on the West
 Coast this fall. The Beach boys will perform a benefit concert for the
David Lynch foundation in Fairfield on Labor Day.
David spoke via teleconference to a large group in the dome,
saying that the large group mediation in Fairfield is what is
creating a fertile ground for these achievements.
There is some positive news nationwide: The US now has the Lowest crime rate
in forty years, the stock index at its highest level since the Nove mber
election and
the well known Dr. Oz has learned TM and enjoys it very much.
We now have 410 acres of land in West Virginia and roads are under construction
along with sewage facilities and energy saving and storing devices.  We have
funds to build 5 buildings to house about 32 Purusha and a Raja and Guest
residence.  Our immediate goal is to build in addition a dining facility and at
least one more residential building to house 8 more Purusha.
In Nepal 11 Maharishi Vedic Pandits performed in front of the Prime Minister
and other Cabinet members.
15 buildings in Vedic City are being moved from the original pandit site where
some remaining Mother Divine and at opposite end 18 Purusha live – to the
present pandit site to ease the housing crunch.  Since the pandits left the MUM
campus they hav e been in sardineville.  Their numbers are now over over 900
with an additional 200 scheduled to arrive later this year.
