[Felvtalk] gentian violet for ringworm-how?

2010-04-02 Thread Emeraldkittee
some have mentioned using this or goldenseal as a natural treatment for
ringwormI assume it comes in a tincture, like goldenseal can?  should it be
diluted with water and applied with cotton?  I assume it's ok if they lick some
of it off?

thank you.

[Felvtalk] Revolution - thoughts for FeLV?

2010-04-02 Thread Emeraldkittee
does anyone use Revolution for their FeLV babies? I don't like any toxic
chemicals but wonder what the risks vs benefits might be?

I've gotten permission to use (try to!) a shed for Whimsy.  I'll put a cage in
there initially, but he very likely will not like being confined all the time,
so therefore will have some outdoor exposure still.  He's had some flea
treatment at his vet visits but would be due again.  He's still battling
ringworm (areas end up healing and new fur grows back) - don't know if that
effects using flea/mite treatment.  The vet has been amazed he's had no visible
fleas or mites but now we are in Spring of course.

I used Revolution. Of the spot on treatments it is supposed to be the least
toxic. Plus it protects against more tha fleas, ear nites and heartworms.

It would be safer for him and any other kitties around if you could keep him
inside full time.
Some of mine were outside full time before I rescued them. They are happy to
be inside and no having to dodge cars and predators.

I have used Gentian Violet for many years for ringworm, and Golden
Seal for not quite as long, and both seem to work well. No I don't
dilute it, never thought of it, but you might try it. I always start
with Golden Seal because it's not as , uh, purple as the Gentian
Violet, ha! It's also a treatment for thrush in the mouth, but I
don't think it's very tempting to use in the mouth, or lick (for a
kitty).

I use revolution on everyone, but it probably depends on your area of the
country,. Heartworms are very prevalent here and one heartworm can kill a
cat. As usual cat treatments lag far behind dog treatments.

No one, cat or human, will lick gholdenseal a second time. try it. You'll
understand why. I once tried to make a suspesion of goldenseal in honey for
myself and it still tasted foul.
