[Felvtalk] Stanley and Interferon Question

2010-03-16 Thread Diane Tyler
Hello again,

Stanley has suddenly taken a turn for the worse. In the last two weeks, he
has gotten very lethargic and not eaten well. We've taken two sets of
x-rays: the first showed all his organs well, then the second two weeks
later his organs weren't even visible because of all the fluid buildup in
his belly. We have him on buprenorphine, prednisolone, and appetite
stimulant. He doesn't have anemia yet and has a low grade fever of 103.. He
is responding to the medication as well as could be expected, I suppose. The
fluid in his belly has also seemed to stabilize a bit since he had the last
xray this past Monday. He actually does eat some--he likes his treats and
I'm going to make him the liver shake to see if he'll eat that.

I have a few questions I'd like to get some opinions on. I have some alpha
interferon and was wondering if it was too late to try some of that and, if
so, what dosage should I give him? The second is should I have the fluid
removed from his belly? I think he'd be more comfortable, although I'm sure
the procedure is probably painful. Can he be anesthesized for that procedure
and is it worth putting him through the pain?

Thanks for some opinions.

Diane

Re: [Felvtalk] ringworm

2010-03-03 Thread Diane Tyler
I've had lots of success using Program for ringworm. I've used it twice:
this year and several years ago for groups of four or more cats. The dosage
suggestions can be found at this website:

http://www.vetinfo.com/cringwrm.html

I know lots of people might not agree that this is an effective treatment,
but again, it has worked for me and is certainly a lot less stressful than
bathing or dipping.

Good luck!

Don't know his potassium, the vet just did a white blood cell count. Do you
think he might need more potassium?

[Felvtalk] Stanley and Muscular Atrophy

2010-02-22 Thread Diane Tyler
Hello everyone,

I've been watching this for over a year, but this is the first time I'm
contacting you-all.

I rescued Stanley (and two of his dumped buddies) about a year and a half
ago and, unfortunately, he was diagnosed with FeLV. All the cats were
estimated to be about a year old at that time. Late last summer Stanley went
through six weeks of LTCI treatment. He has also always been in excellent,
robust health since I found him and fattened him up.
This past weekend we noticed that he wasn't his usual self and he couldn't
jump up on anyone's lap without a lot of trouble so he went to the vet's
this morning. The vet said he has muscular atrophy in his hind legs. We did
an X-ray which showed no signs of tumors and his white blood cell count was
normal. I also noticed his eyes don't look right.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen these symptoms and how they dealt
with them? I want to make him as comfortable as I can because he probably
won't be regenerating any muscles. We're also thinking of continuing with
more LTCI injections.

Thanks for any help anyone has.

Diane
