My vet ordered it from Road Runners in Arizona (interferon) it was only
like 36 dollars.

We lost Hodor yesterday. It was extremely hard. He stopped eating and

I spoke with the vet this evening and she said Winstrol doesn't work and
actually can have negative side effects. I also didn't tell her I had
already started him back on the doxycycline but she said she would prefer
instead he see the regular vet to see what's going on with his eye. Since
the doxycycline his eyes look normal again! I don't sense the same urgency
that I have in this vet, although she is better than the first who just
said to euthanize. Any ideas how to search FeLV specialists? I've Googled
for my area but nothing comes up. I live in San Jose Ca

I posted a few days ago about my cat Hodor. He's still not doing very well.
I went ahead and started the doxycycline again even though I haven't spoken
with the vet - she was off Sunday and Monday. Still haven't heard. His eye
is looking a lot better with the doxycycline. I'm worried about him though.
I want to ask about Winstrol. I'm looking for advice though, I'm not sure
about his blood count or what it will look like at our appointment
scheduled for 10/4. He's on his 3rd week of interferon... Alternating
weeks on and weeks off. I'm worried when we take him for the appointment
they will ask us to euthanize him. Would any of you try another transfusion
to see if the interferon can work? Or if we get Winstrol to give that a
shot? Or should we accept that it might be his time to go. I don't want him
to suffer, and I don't want to put him through another round of this if
it's inhumane, but I don't want to lose him. Thanks.

Hi Elizabeth

Only you can say what is right for your little guy. However, I personally
would try the Winstrol and see what response you get with that. You already
had a better response with the Doxycycline, so there is still some hope.
Absolutely steel yourself though, because it is quite likely that your vet
will start pushing for euthanasia if that hasn?t already been suggested.
We?ve all had to deal with that pressure from the vets, on this chatline.
Resist taking him off the doxycycline and get him on the Winstrol if at all
possible. Winstrol has the potential of a quick effect, so you won?t have
to wait weeks and weeks to see if there is a positive effect, especially if
you draw bloodwork before he starts on the Winstrol. You can often see some
quick changes in the haematology profile.

Giving him another transfusion will also give some time for different
things to work, but again, if you aren?t seeing a discernable boost from
the Interferon alone, don?t put all your eggs in that basket. Keep him on
it if you like, but try to get the vet to give you the Winstrol as well.

Amani

[Felvtalk] Hodor Declining

2016-09-24 Thread Liz McCarty
Hey... Hodor was pretty steady and eating well, good energy... Until
Wednesday. Since then be seems to not have enough energy to move very far.
Not eating well, or drinking well. One of his eyes started tearing
occasionally. He still gets excited about treats and a water bottle we
freeze for him that he likes to lick. He has been on interferon for 2
weeks... This past week was his 7 days off. He started back last night. Has
anyone had interferon experience and seen their cats drop on the week off?
Any suggestions? I don't want to lose him. We are also giving him
prednisone, Pet Tinic and Dmg.

I don't think the URI cleared before they stopped his doxycycline... Even
though I expressed concern they said stop for now... I want to start him
againany thoughts? I don't think his immune system needs this extra
stress! He was doing so well when he had the doxycycline.

Thank you.

Thank you all. I'm going to try the DMG. Other cat is getting vaccinated
Saturday but yeah, we aren't keeping them apart. They've been together
their whole lives nothing is really gonna change at this point. Honestly
with the floss they just kind of pushed that to the side although I plan to
ask at his check up. They looked for solid objects and did an MRI to look
for cancers but didn't give me much more info. This whole process has been
a whirlwind with a lot of information being thrown and me not really
understanding it half the time. Most of what I've learned I've had to
research on my own. They did a blood cell count 5 days after the
transfusion and I think his count went up 1%. Next check will be October
4. Hoping it goes up, that will be a good sign. Overall he's pretty good.
More energetic but not his normal self. He wants to play but gets kinda
tired. He's been very alert though and walks around the house and jumps on
stuff. Eating and drinking very well.

Hi everyone,

Looking for support, suggestions, and information. I've never had a cat
with FeLV. We took our 1 year old, Hodor, to the vet because he seemed
lethargic and in his stool there was a piece of floss that was red. At the
vet things escalated and they told us he was severely anemic and would need
a transfusion that day. I took off work and rushed him to a specialist. The
vet there told us she would run an FeLV test before doing anything in case
we wanted to avoid the extra tests and procedures. She told us he was FeLV
positive and persistently talked to me and my fiance about euthanizing him
which was out of the question for us. I took him to the vet thinking it was
going to be minor and then she's talking to me about killing him! We went
forward with the blood transfusion. It's been almost 3 weeks now. They had
him on doxycycline in case there was a bacterial cause, and prednisone.
Last week he started interferon... Does anyone have experience with that
and know if it was effective? I also started him on Pet Tinic. Any other
suggestions? Any insight into whether you think he will be able to pull
through? He doesn't have cancer, they ran the tests but don't know if it's
in the bone marrow. I'm scared. We have another one year old, unrelated,
and they are best friends. It breaks my heart to think they might be
separated. She's not FeLV positive.

Additionally I have set up a go fund me to help with the costs we incurred,
and I want to donate half to FeLV research if anyone is interested.

[Felvtalk] My baby recently diagnosed with FeLV

2016-09-15 Thread Liz McCarty
