Anita, I'm so sorry you and Anakin have lost your fight. It's always so so hard to say goodbye to their wonderful physical presence. Like many on the list, I believe he's still with you in spirit, but that doesn't mean much when all you want to do is bury your face in his fur one more time. He seems not to have suffered long before he was taken from you, I hope that is some small comfort to you. When I lost my beloved Siberian Husky, Vixen, she was 11 years old. She looked and acted like a young dog until the last month of her life. She had a Grand Mal seizure one night and within a month she was ready to cross. If I had my choice about how I pass, it would be like Anakin and Vixen, enjoying life until the end, with just enough time to say goodbye to the beings I'm forced to leave behind. It's been hard for me to hear about all the kitties who have passed on. Forgive me for not sending individual condolences for recent losses. It is only because I feel grief for you all too strongly that I am not able to visit the subject, but in fits and starts. My Leeloo passed from Anemia very quickly, before I was able to help here alone. Anita, May your heart be as peace that you were able to help your baby along without pain. Dear Anita: I am so sorry to hear that it was Anakin's time to leave you. From the time he showed up on your doorstep, you did everything possible to give him a chance. He knew what it was to have a home, to be loved and to have someone who was willing to give him the chance to get well if that was meant to be. Sadly, Anakin's body could not do that and it was time for his spirit to be set free. He did not have to die cold and alone and unloved and I am sure he was grateful to have you there to help him across so lovingly. There are no words...we've all been there and know how hard it is to let go. If you keep your senses receptive, you may feel him nearby for a while. And it IS still possible to communicate with a furkid's spirit after they have crossed over if you need to find peace about any unresolved feelings. Don't remember him in a frail and failing body, too weak to purr or stand...remember how he was before he got sick and how much joy he brought into your life with his presence. His spirit is renewed and able to soar as high as he chooses to go. Let all those good memories you have of him bring you comfort and know you did what was kindest and best for a beloved furfriend. You gave him a gentle crossing. Anakin had lessons to teach you and one day that will give you more to smile about than sadness. He was a very special kitty soul and he chose someone very special to be his guardian. I lit a candle for Anakin. He will be welcomed by many loving kitty souls. Sally in San Jose
