I think you may be right. I have to make her appt. to
be spayed here in a sec, so I'll tell them I need the
vaccination. It lasts for three years anyway, so that
may be the only one I need to give her.

Thanks,

Congratulations, Wendy!I know how you feel about that felv test. Have all your cats been exposed. Or if she tested positive would you separate her???If not, I'd just get her vaccinated and not worry about the test. If she ever gets sick you can do it then. As long as she's healthy just don't worry about it!If I got another cat now I would probably test.. but it wouldn't make any difference in how I treated it. I probably would just not have it vaccinated. My first positive was vaccinated for felv because we thought she was positive for fiv, but not felv. It certainly didn't hurt anything, but it didn't help anything either. If you really don't want to know then just don't bother, but get her vaccinated because if she's negative you want her to have the
vaccinations going for her.twendy [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi guys,Well, I finally went back to the shelter yesterdaymorning, while my dogs were being snip-snipped at thevets, and adopted that little black kitty that stolemy heart weekend before last. 2006-03-30 Thread Marylyn

Just so you'll know: Barn cats are held in high esteem in the cat
world. They have the best of several worlds as long as they have a caring
person around. They have food, a warm, dry place to stay, plenty of good
hunting, warm hay to sleep and hide inetc. I didn't realize how
admired they were until I read a book by Dawn Haymen (www.springfarmcares.org).
The caretaker is for putting out good snacks and clean water and
taking care of emergencies. If you would like to work on Charity's
fears try spending time in the barn talking softly, taking out good snacks
frequently and putting Feliway spray on you and your clothes. And look at
things thru her eyes and ears. You are very big and you don't smell right
(sorry--you don't smell like a cat--the Feliway will help here) and, well, you
get the idea. Just the size thing is frightening. And her only
contacts with people have involved being crammed in a box, dumped, loosing her
kittens, being trapped and taken to the vets. There are a number of
websites on feral cats. And there are lots of things you can do to at
least partially socialize her so you'll know if she is healthy etc. It is
so obvious that you care about her and you have done well by her. I have
had two feral cats move in with me and they are totally different from
house cats and totally wonderful in their own ways. I am feeding TNR
several thatcome to my Mom's. People have either dumped them or they
are the offspring of some that have been dumped. I wish they all had a
nice warm barn and someone to care for them the way Charity does. Just
spending time around them, just talking and being, makes it easier for them to
realize you are not going to cause pain or kill them. Now I'm
rambling..Thanks for caring about Charity. I suspect she appreciates
it very much too. :)))

Patti,

Thanks so much for your thoughts. I don't think that
reincarnation for animals is crazy. Humans I would
have a hard time accepting, but not animals for some
reason. I do remember you talking about Ethan and
Timothy. It's weird how there can be so many
different mannerisms for different cats. I am waiting
for my little black kitty to flop down on her stomach
one day and stick her legs out all the way behind her
as if she were lying prone like a human. If she can
just get out of heat long enough to get her little
bottom out of the air...

I will join you in taking comfort that Cricket might
actually have come back to spend the rest of his life
with me...I'll watch and wait and see...

Dixie did the same thing. I guess I am overly cautious. She told AC
friends of mine that she had been to the vet and hated it. We all took that
to mean she had been spayed. She trembled awfully when I took her in for
some blood work. The vet couldn't find a scar but I kept pushing for some
sort of test to make sure. There is a hormone test (expense but worth it in
her case). Since she was FeLV + I didn't want to put her thru surgery
unnecessarily. Besides, I had lost 2 girls 4 days after surgery. Different
vets and unrelated cats. I don't believe either vet did anything wrong but
I was and am spay shy right now. Long and short: She had been spayed.

Yes, I imagine they think we do really weird things.

Hi Marylyn,

I will ask her what she'd like her new name to be. I
think choosing names is very important. I know she is
in heat by the way she's sticking her butt in the air
all the time and moving her little legs back and forth
and howling. Poor thing. I'm glad we don't do that
as humans, although I guess some of our behaviors
could be likened to that...lol.

Second: Ask her what she would like her name to be.
 She'll let you know.
Then she will be very pleased with her name. I had
AC friends ask Dixie
what she wanted for a name. She told one Louise --
not a name I would have

Doodle. That was so bad the

told both friends

fooled around with them

she got her first two names she had Doodle added

when I call her, she

that she chose her names
and got all of them.

Wendy,
Yea, I've heard of that too. They have a name for it, but I can't
remember what it's called, and because the life of spirit doesn't have
the same time constraints as our world, it doesn't matter if the host
body was born before the reincarnated soul passed. If you want to hear
something uncanny... When my friend Patricia, (you may remember she's
my AC friend), wanted to adopt one of my bottle babies, she said she had
been told that whichever one she chose, would make room for her
Siamese kitty, Ghandi, that had past several years before. Now here's
the strange part... When she took Molly home, she was long haired, she
had the markings of a Siamese, but she didn't have the body type. Over
the course of a couple of months, Molly's body began to change and she
grew up to look like a Siamese! I wouldn't have believed it, if I
hadn't witnessed it with my own eyes. Her fur got shorter and sleeker
and her, legs long and her head more angled! Don't discount the fact
that this may very well be your sweet Cricket come back to you! Pay
attention and see if you notice any other character traits that they
have in common. It doesn't really matter, although it's wonderful to
think about, if this is Cricket. I know this baby will be loved and
cherished. Congratulations on your new addition!!

just shaped the same as he was. It's REALLY weird.
Even my husband said something about it. The vet said
she's about six months old, but I'm not so sure she's
that old. Cricket died five months ago this Thursday.
I'm not saying that this is Cricket reincarnated,
because it's so hard for me to wrap my mind around
something like that, but I'm not saying it's not
either.

This kitty is such a love and will bless our home. I
noticed she has tapeworms yesterday, so I gave her a
quarter pill of those pills you can get from the feed
store for dog tapeworms. That's what I usually use,
and had some left over from last year. Otherwise, she
seems very healthy, and gets along as if she has both
her eyes instead of one. I have to get her shots and
get her spayed in a month, so I will probably have her
tested for FeLV at that time as well. But I'm sure
there are many of you out there who understand me when
I say part of me just wants to forgo that FeLV test,
and not know if she is, you know? Ignorance is bliss.
I guess that would be irresponsible though, as she
would need special care, although all my kitties eat
healthy and get their vitamins.

Anyway, I am very happy about this new addition to our
home, and I just wanted to share it with you guys, who
can appreciate it the most.

Thanks for listening!
:)

Now that would be uncanny...

 Cricket

  Hi guys,

Well, I finally went back to the shelter yesterday
morning, while my dogs were being snip-snipped at
 the
vets, and adopted that little black kitty that
 stole
my heart weekend before last. I haven't named her
yet, but she is precious. When I first met her,
 and
subsequently thought about her all week, I knew
 she
was black like Cricket, but didn't realize how
 much
she favored Cricket until I got her home and spent
 the
day with her. Her face is shaped the same. She
 has
the same soft fur and long, fluffy black tail, and
 is
just shaped the same as he was. It's REALLY
 weird.

Congratulations on your new addition! It is so much
fun to get a new baby and get to know their little
personality.
