Well, each state should
have an online court system that allows you to check on specific people -- I
know people who routinely check new boyfriends, ex-husbands, etc. You just
type in a person's name and it'll show whatever cases that person is involved
in. If you Google "(your state) Circuit Court Access" you should get what
you need.

I have at LEAST two vets at any given time for my critters. My favorite vet is a mobile vet, so while I look to her first ..I often can't get an appt. right away, when I need one...and should I need to drop urine or stool sample off for testingits good to have a vet with astationary office to do that; so I have another vet close by that's"ok" for those things. There is also a homeopathic vet that has helped out a great dealin areas where the knowledge of the other two is thin and has been quite helpful in prescibing non-drug remedies (diet, accupuncture homeopathic)to address problems. When Quintie was alive..he had a specialist...well two...a cardiologist and an internist. (I on the other hand have no health insurance...hehehe)The important thing is to get hard copies of each
visit, what was done to solve the problem that the animal was brought in for...what meds where given..etc..(not just a receipt for payment..but a copy of whatever notes the doc. took and wrote in the animal's folder) and make certain that EACH of the animal's doctors has a copy in their file, (learned this from taking care of an elderly great aunt ;-). Good vets will understand and respect your decision, not give you a hard time about it. Good vets are also eager to share ideas and learn about other methods used to treat their patients, even if they choose not to participate in their administration.Remember, YOU PAY THEM, THEY WORK FOR YOU...do what you feel is best for your animal and you...first.Good luck! (How lucky you are to find two vets you like so much!!!) THi guys and babes! I was wondering if it is okay to have 2 vets. I found that great one off of Kats list butwhen my sister went to the dog/cat clinic..it is a mile away from my house I fell inlove with the vets brillant and personable bedside. When he put my sisters baby Minnion to sleep he put his hand on her shoulder and said I am soo sorry for your lost. He also said he wasn't going to charge her. He is very with it concerning FELV FIV FIP and very caring. I also am torn because I LOVE the other new vet too. RE: 2 vets?

2006-09-25 Thread Rosenfeldt, Diane

Well, it would be
difficult logistically if you're having both of them give the same cat the same
kind of care. If one prescribed a drug and then, unknowingly, the other
prescribed something that has a reaction with the other drug, Crackers could be
in big trouble. You would have to make sure that the two vets were
willing to keep the lines of communication open so that each knows what the
other is doing, which competing vets might not be willing to do. If one
were a specialist in some area and you were taking Crackers to him for that kind
of treatment (like, God forbid, an oncologist) or if he had necessary equipment,
like an ultrasound machine, that the other didn't have, that would be different,
and chances are, in those cases, that they would be more willing to "share"
Crackers' care. For instance, Gail and I made the decision to have Tribble
front-declawed (against all our beliefs) because he was regularly shredding the
other cats in the house. We love our current vets, but they don't have the
capability to laser-declaw, so we had to take him to a vet that did. We've
had 3 of our babies at an emergency vet 30 miles away because they have the
resources and equipment to get fast answers when they're needed. In those
cases, there were faxes going back and forth between our regular vets and these
"special" vets so that everybody knew what was happening. If you have 2
vets doing Crackers' routine care, itwould always be up to you to ask
each one, "Did Dr. X fax you about the (name ailment)?"

Any good vet will be
caring, and I don't know a vet who wouldn't say "I'm sorry" when someone loses a
pet (although the not-charging was nice). So don't put TOO much weight on
that aspect of your sister's vet. But if you're sure he is as current on
the feline diseases as you think he is (maybe you could Google him to see if
he's published papers -- or for that matter, got any lawsuits against him),
maybe you want to just switch vets. Check his office hours to make sure he
will fill your needs first though. If all this checks out and he seems
okay, you could just tell the first great vet that you need someone closer to
you, in case of emergency.

Hope this
helps.

Diane R.

I do --- I had a vet who I was seeing exclusively for the past 10 years
and she moved and couldn't see her anymore and it was devastating..
because I had to start all over to find someone whom I can trust and
start building relationship and took for a while.. so it's smart to have
more than one for your and your kitty's benefit..

RE: 2 vets?

2006-09-25 Thread Susan Hoffman
I have different vets for different reasons. (1)One is a great surgeon who does thorough research and has a wonderful demeanor. He's also 10 minutes from my house, part of an AAHA certified veterinary hospital with evening and weekend hours. However, he's too expensive for routine matters. (2) Foster kittens go to a low cost spay/neuter clinic en masse, even though it's an hour's drive each way. (3) I am considering taking a fostercat with chronic skin allergies to my old vet 45 miles away because, for 9 years, he treated one of my own cats -- Shanghai -- for a similar skin condition until Shanghai passed away at age 18. (4) And I often take ferals or strays to one of the feral spay/neuter clinics where I volunteer.Have as many vets as make sense for you. Different vets have different strengths. Hideyo Yamamoto

Diane great advice..i didn't think off that...my 1st new vet i had one
visit..that was because i wanted to get to know him and have Crackers new
patient examination and the fact X VET told me to PTS Crackers. But I did fall
head over "paws" for him and he specializes in just cats. I became very panicked
when x vet said PTS that I totally wanted an ONLY cat vet. Since no plans or
meds where done yet on Crackers I will go to this vet tomorrow and get Crackers
his booster shots and then I will sit down and decide who I think is better for
Crackers. Then I will just tell which ever vet I dont choose the truth. Thanks
again.
