My vet suggested this and offered it for free to our shelter when we kept having outbreaks.but the shelter refused to take the time to administer it. tHideyo Yamamoto [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Has anyone used Interferon for URIs treatment for your kitties? My Hannibal is on penicillin but still has yellow colored dischargesometimes, and remember people on the list using interferon for URIs -could tell me more about it? If I understand right.
Interferon is a booster for the part of the natural immune system that
fights yirouses..which URI is So it will probably work well...
The side effect is that the body may become dependent on the
interferon to maintain normal strength...
That's why the usually do a week on and a week off to prevent
the dependency
Thus the question... when to use or when to save it for when its
really needed
My vet was one that wanted to save it but then we learned that
FeLV+ cats can go from not acting quit normal to crashed in
such a short time that I now have it in my house and his blessing
at using it when ever I feel its necessary
It almost always quality life.. Sometimes for only a few days
and others much longer...

Hideyo,
I haven't used Interferon A specifically for URIs, but it seems to me
that since it's suppose to be an immune booster, it should help. I'd be
very interested to hear if anyone has had success using it for URIs
too. Tad wrote that he heard the pulse method protocol is used to
prevent the body from becoming dependent. I hadn't heard that, I'd
heard that it simply loses it's effectiveness because it's derived from
human DNA rather than feline. That has been my understanding why the
feline interferon omega is more effective long term.

I've been trying to call you to talk about Hannibal. I know you don't
get posts at home, so you won't get this until Monday. How's Hannibal
doing?
