Re: RE: Wisconsin cat hunting: bad and good news!
Did anyone ever catch that show Titus back in 2000-2002? It was basically the show about a "disfunctional family" to end all disfunctional families. The main character (actual comic Christopher Titus wrote the show based on his family)...mother was a paranoid pychotic, with multible personality disorder who routinely attempted to kill his father...his father was a verbally abusing, womanizing alcoholic-"who lived to make my life a living hell, crush my self esteem and ruin any chance I ever had for happiness...I love my father!" Titus croons in the pilot. On one episode they touch on the subject of Hunrting Guns: In a flash back,Titus is walking through a K-mart with his father and passes a rack of rifles, a salesman andseveral customers lining up the sites of one gun, looking at others.he says to his father, "DAD, I WANT ONE OF THOSE!"His father causally tosses back, "You don't need a gun son,men in our family have penises." One of my favorite shows...one of my favorite lines!Lewis Faye [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: My uncles swear that once upon a time, there were rules, rules of safety, rules of civility, rules of respect of nature but that is has changed. The bad news is that the advisory vote on the resolution to make cats an unprotected species won, but the good news is that head of the DNR says there will be no cat hunt. The question was passed in a statewide advisory vote by those who attended the annua; Conservation Congress meetings held in each county. The vote was 6,830 in favor and 5,201 opposed to the idea. The results of this vote go to the Natural Resources Board which then recommends changing any laws to the state legislature - but as Scott Hassett, the DNR secretary is adamantly opposed to a cat hunt, this is probably the end of the matter for now. The DNR knows that allowing cats to be hunted would cause a lot of legal problems (e.g. people often can't tell if a cat is a true feral or a stray or a just a barn cat wandering around) that many farmers would close their land to hunters, that tourism would be affected, and with the DNR budget having been slashed, like those of so many state agencies these days, they just want to avoid all the problems and headaches that would ensue. A lot of people are hoping this is a wake-up call to those who let their cats run free and don't spay or neuter. reporting from Wisconsin, Bonnie Kalmbach This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed. It is amazing to me that 12,000 people voted and that almost 7000 voted for this ridiculous proposition! RE: Wisconsin cat hunting: bad and good news!
I do wish we could get a resolution passed to allow the hunters to be hunted too! Every hunter should be required to carry x amount of life insurance (aka death benefits) and they should be fair game if caught hunting out of season, or hunting in a no trespassing area, or hunting endangered species, or... This way (assuming this would be enough of a deterrant), MAYBE they would pay attention to what they do and how they do it. (I do not mean to insult the hunters who follow the rules and use all parts of what they kill - only the idiots who would shoot a cow thinking it was a deer, or the ones who use fireworks to flush out their prey, etc.) Kat (Mew Jersey) On Wed, 13 Apr 2005, Chris wrote: Date: Wed, 13 Apr 2005 10:05:35 -0400 From: Chris [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reply-To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Subject: RE: Wisconsin cat hunting: bad and good news! RE: Wisconsin cat hunting: bad and good news!
I have to take exception to the description of most hunters being like that. My whole family has hunted over the years (I'm from northern WI) and I don't personally know anyone that foolish. Unfortunately, like with most other areas, the ones that make the news and create the stereotypes are the ones who do things like that. I think most hunters are responsible and follow the laws. I even have 2 game wardens in the family:) I had not heard of the incident at the school bus stop, where was that?tamara stickler [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Nah, you're not a "dumb Brit" your just too intellectual to understand it. OT: : RE: Wisconsin cat hunting: bad and good news!
There are laws that do not allow the discharge of firearms near human dwellings, but accidents happen all the time. One woman at the hearings said that feral cats near her rural home are so fast that she thinks many would be merely wounded by hunting and suffer a lingering death. It is amazing to me that 12,000 people voted and that almost 7000 voted for this ridiculous proposition! It would be easy to say that this is some sort of Wisconsin fluke but unfortunately there are far too many folks out there who consider all animals as nuisances and fair game for their high poweredtoys. The only ray of hope is that cats are pretty fast and if we're lucky these lunatics will only end up shooting each other! By the way, does the resolution call for allowing cat hunts everywhere in Wisconsin--rural populated areas Chris [EMAIL PROTECTED] -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of BONNIE J KALMBACHSent: Wednesday, April 13, 2005 3:28 AM To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org; felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Subject: OT: Wisconsin cat hunting: bad and good news! A lot of people are hoping this is a wake-up call to those who let their cats run free and don't spay or neuter. reporting from Wisconsin, Bonnie Kalmbach

Title: Message That's funny Tamara--actually it was "LMAO" that I meant I didn't get (which Barb then explained), but it now turns out I misunderstoood the orange vest reference --I thought it meant bullet-proof vests. Sounds like everyone in hunting country should be wearing bullet-proof vests! And, looking at the police blotter pages in the newspapers (per a masochistic tendency I have to scare the living daylights out of myself), probably not a bad idea here in Chicago either (I hopped over the pond to your fair country a few years back). Going back to the McKillip "animal hospital" email i sent earlier, all ideas welcome on putting them out of business. RE: Wisconsin cat hunting: bad and good news!
Re: the McKillip horror. I wish I KNEW some good advice for you. I volunteered at a "nonprofit" called Defenders of Animal Rights, Inc. ...also called "Adopt A Pet" that was, at least in the early 90s just aweful, money-grubbing, organization. The owner would destroy dogs and cats while at the same time alluding to being "no kill" shelter. Jim Kovac (owner) would clear the kennels near holidays so he wouldn't have to come in. Cats kittens were sold claiming they had been tested for FeLV FIV when in fact they had NOT...infecting several households (FIV)by the way. Animals were NOT destroyed carefully or always humanly, but when we went to the law with PROOF and our affidavits, testimony etc...we were basically told, as long as the animal died then they really didn't have a problem with HOW it was put down. So we picketted for a year and then stepped off. They are prob. STILL bilking old people out of their wills with the promises to "take care" of any pets left behind.but hey, the shelter LOOKS beautiful, clean and never full so the general public thinks they are doing a great job. If you figure out HOW to shut down McKillip, please let me know. (although the video WAS the best idea...that way even if the authorities don't help, you can give it to the news media.we did that with photos of the abuses at DAR, and put a small crimp in their donations...at least for a while)."MacKenzie, Kerry N."
