Re: [Felvtalk] Info on probiotics and CoQ10

2011-02-02 Thread Natalie
I get the GNC vegetarian brand Coenzyme Q10 because it comes in powder form
in capsules. I get the 100 mg, half per cat per day in food. Each cat ,
FIV/FeLV and heart patients, get 50mg daily.
I still haven't been able to find probiotics in powder form, and am still
opening up capsules every day. I use any good ones available at either
Whole Foods or health food stores.

What form is the CoQ10 in? I take 100 mg daily; you said 30 mg for the cat.

My cat, Lucky, has an enlarged heart and is constantly congested/sneezing.
Antibiotics don't seem to help. Also, what pro-biotic do you give?
I'm curious how you give it to the cat...mix in food? Lucky has spit up
the Lysine when I mixed it in his food before.
Thanks for your help!

Probiotic are recommended if the cat is receiving an antibiotic.
Antibiotics tend to kill the good gut bacteria and probiotic help
replenish them. I start my cats on a probiotic as soon as they start an
 abx.

I give 30 mg/day of CoQ10 to my CRF kitty with a heart murmur. Usually
recommended for any kitty with heart issues. Some give to help the immune
 system.

Both can be found at your local pharmacy.

Can someone please give me more info on probiotics and CoQ10?
I give FIV cats L-Lysine and my FeLV cats Lysine and Interferon but have
never heard of these and want to know where to get them, what they
are, what they are supposed to do, etc.

 Thanks
 Kat

Re: [Felvtalk] Info on probiotics and CoQ10

2011-02-01 Thread Sharyl
I get 30 mg capsules from Walgreen and mix it in some meat baby food.  I pierce
the capsule and squeeze the oil out since I am lousy at pilling cats.   I use
Now brand pure L-lysine powder.  I tried capsules/caplets and didn't like the
fillers used in them.  I mix 1/4 tsp of the powder in a qt of water and use
that in all the water bowls.  I have a house full of feral rescues and use the
water mixture as a maintenance dose for them.  When they need more I mix 1/4
tsp in 1 tsp of warm water, stir to dissolve and mix into their canned food.

You can get acidophilus probiotic capsules or a pet probiotic capsule.  I use
meat baby food (no onions or garlic) for most meds.   Mine love their Gerber 2
Chicken and Gravy and don't mind the CoQ10 or probiotic mixed in it.

If you can pill your cat you can always get empty gel caps and put the
supplements in them.
