[Finale] Finale Mac 2K7 and Leopard

2008-04-24 Thread ThomaStudios
This was probably kicked around some time ago, but since I was still
on Tiger, I spaced it. But with Finale Mac 2007, every time I quit
under OS X Leopard, the program does quit, but I get the annoying
dialog box stating Finale has unexpectedly quit. I remember having
this issue a long time ago, maybe with Panther. But I don't recall
the solution. Can anyone offer a fix?

Thanks.

The music link on the nav bar should work. The problem is that the Logo

disable it. It's so close to the nav bar that it's easy to click the
logo instead of the nav bar.

OT but I couldn't resist :-)
I was under the impression you used ThemeSnap, correct? They don't help
you? To me, they charge pretty hefty amount for something open source.

My mistake. You used iTheme. I didn't know this one.
I took a look at your logo hyperlink problem. I have a feeling you can
solve the problem by making logo hight smaller. Use the original iTheme
logo for size reference.

There's no fix. You can Force Quit instead of quitting normally to
avoid this dialog box, but otherwise you are stuck with it.

[Finale] Hard Copy of the Manual (was: Re: OT)

2008-04-24 Thread Daniel Wolf
As long as we're on the subject of a hard copy of the manual: I've assumed
that neither Finale nor Sibelius offers a hard copy simply because it is
too much trouble to produce. But given the fact that the manuals exist in
printable forms, it's somewhat puzzling that neither firm has gone ahead
and offered it as a publish on demand product via Lulu.com (for example).

Sibelius DOES offer a printed manual at extra cost ($30 or $35) and it
is a proper book with an index and page headings and chapters and all
the amenities of old-fashioned manuals (cross-references and all).

It is NOT simply a 2-up reprint of the help file. It is a reprint of
the on-line-documentation, but done properly, 1-up so it can be read
like a book and not like a computer-printout, the way the Finale printed
manual has been until the 2008 version when it appears that a printed
manual isn't even an option.

Re: [Finale] Web site rennovation

There was an additional problem with the logo because it was a .png and
IE6 doesn't do .png well. So I have now deleted the logo as a separate
element entirely and made it a part of the background. This solves my
.png problem as well as the conflicting links.

Yes it is iTheme. I didn't spend any money on it and did it all myself.

I suggest adding a page Why I Use Finale Notation Software though. :)

Well, the Command key doesn't work for me either. It just selects one
staff at a time, un-selecting any other ones.

I'm trying to program a Staff Set that let's me view only the 5
saxophones and keyboard.
Here's the instruction from the Tutorial:

Let’s say, for example, that you want to work just on the Violin I
and Viola lines; you want to hide the blank staves so Finale won’t
waste time redrawing them.

From the View Menu, choose Scroll View.
Click the Staff Tool
. First you’ll use the Staff Tool to tell Finale which staves you
want to see.
Click the handle of the Violin I staff. Then, while pressing
, click the handle of the Viola staff.
-clicking allows you to select several staves one at a time, even
if they’re not adjacent in the score.

That's not the way it works for me. Pressing Shift and selecting
non-continuous staves selects all the ones in between. Solution?
All the best,

For Mac it's the splat key (command, or Apple key). I have found a
few places in the Mac documentation where it is obviously destined
for PC users.

Thanks for the kind words, Barbara. I've been having quite a good
chuckle at the Finale specific suggestions. I can think of some fun
replies but it's far too easy to be misunderstood on the internet and my
wife says my sense of humor is too dry anyway.

Actually yours may be a good suggestion for an article. If anyone wants
to write it and send it to me, I'll take a look at it. And I'll give
credit to the author.
