Re: [Finale] An answer for Jari
I got a new laptop last year and wanted to run PureData on it (as well as Finale 2009). Reading around a bit, it seemed to make sense to get ASIO. That's when my problems started. PD would freeze the machine, while playing something, so I got a loud continous sound and had to remove the battery to stop it. After a bit more reading, it seems that ASIO is all a bit old hat now and most modern machines should not need it. So I uninstalled ASIO. For a while, I kept getting strange behaviour until I managed to reset everything back to its default - clearly ASIO does things to the setup of the machine that are not undone when it is uninstalled. I have not had any problems since. So the question is: is ASIO necessary at all? Regards, Michael Lawlor On 2012-09-01 19:37, Henry Howey wrote: I really do know what I'm doing MAC or PC. And yet you seem to have more configuration problems than any other Fin2012 user I've seen on any Finale forum? Or is it just that you install Fin2012 on zillions of machines? This is a really severe bug as I've never before experienced. The new 6K box my kind school has provided to me was initially not set up with all of the latest drivers. I had been gradually doing this when I noticed that the AUDIO SETUP was unstable. Well, I found out that the CREATIVE soundcard and its associated apps needed updating. As soon as I did this 2012 would freeze the machine to the point that no usual recovery was possible at all. So you upgraded the drivers for Creative which started to freeze Fin2012, and this would be MM's problem? I doubt many of you are on your best game at 5 PM Fridays;-) I checked today and can use 2012 by rolling back the sound card driver. This is not a real solution as normal maintenance should not be a disastrous occurrence. Re: [Finale] Change Instrument for 1 bar
I don't know if Robert Patterson got an answer to his question from last April, but I've only now realized there is a bug in the change instrument command. (Finale 2012b) If you choose 1 measure, the changes apply to the rest of the staff. If you select 2 measures or more, the changes work on the selected passage. Can anyone else confirm this before I send in my report to MM? Thanks. -Randolph Peters On 2012-04-01, at 9:29 AM, Robert Patterson rob...@robertgpatterson.com wrote: Is there any way to edit the instrument-change map directly? Normally, I could change back in the next bar, but this is a file imported from an earlier version, so the base instrument is Unknown which makes it impossible to select in the Change Instrument dialog. ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

It's a feature not a bug! That is, they mean for it work that way, but by all means write it up: Workarounds: 1 Change the staff lines with a staff style (which is what I did). 2 It may be possible to select the rest of the staff after the single bar and change it to the other instrument. I can't remember if I tried it. Re: [Finale] Change Instrument for 1 bar
Yes, that is how it works. If you only want an instrument change for one measure, just select the measure AFTER the instrument change and set it back to the first instrument. No worries. In your case, set the FIRST instrument to something you know before starting, so you can change it back again afterwards. Or just rename it so you can find it in the list. I wish I could have instrument changes/transposing staff styles that work on partial measures. Christopher On Mon Sep 3, at MondaySep 3 3:29 PM, Robert Patterson wrote: It's a feature not a bug! Re: [Finale] Change Instrument for 1 bar
Thanks Christopher and Robert, I always feel better when I know it is a feature. ;) It does break the conventions and standards of how the program operates and it takes away functionality from previous versions, so I will lobby MM for a change. -Randolph Peters On 2012-09-03, at 2:34 PM, Christopher Smith christopher.sm...@videotron.ca wrote: Yes, that is how it works. So many things about Score Manager take away functionality from previous versions.
