Re: [Finale] Cannot find files within Finale
(1) What folder is it in? (2) (probably more likely) what is the file extension? Is it a .mus or a .musx? Re: [Finale] Cannot find files within Finale
Refreshing the files, restarting Finale, ensuring the parameters for the folder are set have had no effect and the files are not in the SYSTEM32 folder. But I have now gone through everything and restarted Finale several times suddenly, the folder has reappeared. I do not know which action fixed it. One thing might point at the problem, although I have 2014.5 installed, I have noticed that when I open a file via Window Explorer, it actually opens up FInale 2014d. Even when I try to force the file to open with 2014.5, it still opens with 2014d. Thanks for the help; it seems to be working at the moment. ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu https://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale To unsubscribe from finale send a message to: finale-unsubscr...@shsu.edu

I just did a test whereby I copied a .mus file into the system32 folder, and it shows up just fine in Windows Explorer but it does not show in the File/Open dialog in Finale 2014.5. I just ran another test and I saved a file from within Finale to the System32 folder and it does not show up in Explorer but it does show up in the Finale File/Open dialog. I just ran yet another test saving as a .mus instead of a .musx and the same behavior is exhibited. So the behavior is exactly opposite from each other depending on whether there is a Finale file copied into the System32 folder using Windows Explorer or whether it is saved into the System32 from within Finale. That is very bizarre -- yet another example of the developers of Finale not quite spending enough time (for whatever reason -- it may not be their fault) to make sure this all works together properly. As to why Finale would randomly put files into that folder, that's anybody's guess and while the file displaying issue may be partly Microsoft's fault, having Finale randomly change folders to save files into, going contrary to the Folders settings in Preferences is entirely the Finale developers' fault. -- * David H. This can be changed so that they can be seen. This does NOT work for these files. The system32 directory seems to be unusually privileged so that Finale files (and perhaps other user data files) cannot be seen there inside the usual explorer window. The first time I encountered it, I opened explorer (which is set to show everything) and the files were absent from system32. These files DO appear in the open dialog, however, where drag-and-drop is normal. They also DO appear in the command window. I've yet to figure out this behavior, which in my experience has only happened with Finale's recent versions. Re: [Finale] Cannot find files within Finale
There is a setting in Windows Explorer (which is where programs get the info for their file open/save dialogs) to show or hide system folders and files. This can be changed so that they can be seen. in Windows 10 (can't remember where this was in previous versions of Windows) open Windows Explorer and click on the the word "View" to open the "View" ribbon and there is a checkbox beside the words "Hidden items" in the "Show/Hide" section of the ribbon. Put a checkbox in that box next to "Hiden items" and then the system32 folder should show up in Windows Explorer and also in the File/Open or File/Save dialogs. David H. Occasionally when I'm using Finale 2014.5, it quietly switches the file saving to the /windows/system32 folder, where Finale can open them but they can't otherwise be seen. (None of my default folders are set to this, so I'm not sure why it happens.) I've found the only way to fix this (aside from being careful that Finale doesn't do this to you in the first place) is to, during the open dialog, drag the files elsewhere. [Finale] Cannot find files within Finale
[2014.5] I have a folder that I can see from Windows Explorer and can select files and they open in Finale. However, within Finale, if I try to open a file, the folder is invisible. Are there parameters I may have inadvertently set that is causing this?
