[Finale] Font problem in Finale 2012

2011-10-08 Thread Alberto Guzmán Naranjo
Yesterday I bought the upgrade to Finale 2012. I installed it properly on my
iMac but when I open the program there are no fonts. ¿What should I do to
correct this problem?

Thanks in advance

I had the problem of fonts not displaying right. I saw this on the Finale
forum. It fixed it for me.

It's a link to download all the fonts again.

Hope that helps.

That's strange. I'm on Mac too. The FontPack downloaded as an install package.
No need to save, just click. Perhaps you should try downloading again.

Justin Phillips from Finale added this solution to the forum.

1) Go to Finder's Go menu Go to Folder.
2) Type in /Library/Fonts
3) Locate the Maestro fonts (as a test first) and drag them to the Trash
4) Install the .dmg FontPack from the link below:

Re: [Finale] Font problem in Finale 2012

2011-10-08 Thread Klaus Smedegaard Bjerre
FM2012 installed without problems on my desktop Mac, where I do most of my
work. On my MacBook, which I in Finale contexts more use for references between
work sessions, the percussion staff in a march score had odd substitutions for
the note heads, even if the installation reported itself successful.

I then ran the suggested font installer, and all note head went funny. Again
after the installation reported itself successful.

I then carried out the procedure suggested below here and deleted al the fonts
that obviously were related to engraving, and then once more ran the font
installer. And now the scores look right, but then I haven’t looked at all
possible ways of writing in Finale.

As I see it, Finale’s font installer must be wrong. If it will not install,
when older font versions are in the fonts folder, then it should uninstall them
as part of the procedure. At least it should not declare the installation
successful.

[Finale] font problem in PDF

2009-10-09 Thread shirling neueweise

i'm not sure where this problem comes from, maybe someone has a solution.

i (mac) sent parts to the orchestra librarian (PC) who sees
characters instead of music symbols for noteheads, clefs etc. my
distiller settings are to embed all music fonts (subset when under
100%). she sees the same problem with a PDF generated through the
OSX dialogue.

the conductor didn't have this problem, but i know he has finale
installed, and therefore all necessary fonts, on his dumputer.

in the short term she is downloading the demo version of finale and
so should have the fonts and be able to view/print the parts
correctly, but this should not happen and i would like to resolve it.

i leave common fonts like times and arial out of the embed list.
although the fact that some of these fonts actually look different on
mac and pc makes me rethink this idea... initially i only
selectively embedded fonts to reduce document size, but i guess this
shouldn't realy be so much of a problem now, the extra fonts don't
add so much bloat.

[Finale] Font problem

2006-01-13 Thread David Froom
Hello,
I use Finale 2005, and just upgraded to Mac OS 10.4.4 from 10.3.9. I
deleted that apple.com.ATS folder, as instructed. Most of my fonts show up
fine, but I noticed, in the first file I opened, that an Engraver font
accent-with-staccato shows up as a box in its flipped form. The regular one
is fine.

I double clicked it. In the dialog box, the flipped form shows up as that
box. When I go to change it, the correct flipped accent-staccato has
already been selected. But it shows up as the box again when I hit OK, and
remains as the box when I leave the articulations dialog box.

Has anyone encountered and solved this problem?

Thank you very much in advance,

Re: [Finale] Font problem

2006-01-13 Thread bill
David,

Apple has been messing around with TrueType fonts in OS X to accommodate
native Windows versions, and STILL don't have it right. The glyph you are
talking about in Engraver is Shift-Opt-6 and will not display or print
properly with the TrueType version. Other broken combinations include
Shift-Opt-2 and 5, and one more I can't think of at the moment.

I am not up to speed on font technicalities, even though I have created a
few; I am more on the artistic side rather than the technical. If you have
access to the PostScript versions, use those...you will have all characters
available. I am continuing to try to solve this problem, and I welcome any
input from anyone who knows.

Finale 2004 and I assume 2005 only lets you use fonts with particular
encodings - if you look up font encoding in the OLD you can read more if
my memory serves.

This of course is very annoying. It also breaks things like the Opus
font in Sibelius. Makemusic replies that it's what all Mac applications
should be doing anyway, and so they're not going to change it. Which of
course leaves us consumers as the bunnies.

Good luck with it anyway,

 try fontlabs transtype: http://www.fontlab.com/Font-tools/TransType/

Well, since I only have this one job to do I was hoping for a free
tool. $179 (or even $97) isn't near enough to free for me to consider
buying it.

I did try the demo, though, and while it only converts half of the
glyphs I was able to get the converted fonts to work in MS Word.
However, even the TransType-converted fonts won't work properly in
Finale.

The converted fonts' names show up in Finale's font list, but they
don't display correctly when chosen.

2004-08-22 Thread Darcy James Argue
Andrew,
Be careful with FontBook -- before you do anything, check out the
Preferences and make sure you check Always copy font files when
installing. One thing you definitely *don't* want is for your fonts
to be moved from you Classic System Folder.

To install a PostScript, Font using FontBook, double-click the .bmap
file. FontBook will then install *both* the .bmap file and the Type 1
font file to the location you specify in the Preferences.

Also, where are your troublesome fonts installed now? Are they only in
your OS 9 System Folder/Fonts? Or did you copy them to the OS X side
-- to Macintosh HD/Library/Fonts or ~/Library/Fonts? Are you using the
same OS 9 System Folder for actually booting OS 9 *and* running
Classic, or do you have two separate OS 9 System Folders?

Thanks, BTW, to all those who replied. After posting, I realized that
a last-ditch solution would be to make PDFs from all my Finale 2K2 and

If it ever comes to that, I'll have some more questions, but for now

Look, this is getting serious. Many, perhaps most, of my fonts do not

I have presented this problem to the list before, and so far nobody
has been able to suggest anything relevant short of individually
modifying each separate font with Fontographer. Since this would
require months of time that I do not have, it appears that I will be
permanently wedded to OS9 unless someone comes up w. an appropriate
fix. I will certainly be unable to use any future Finale upgrade till
