OK, I think I've got cairo working properly now. Let me know if these
changes work for you.

I presume you're on 32-bit?  This error has been reported on
 10.6/32-bit

(the last part wasn't supposed to be a question)

And how would I determine this?  I would presume that the
libpng15 files were built for 32 bit but I have switched to an i7
processor which may force Fink to build for x86_64 and how would
 I fix this?

 James

 fink -V | head -n3

If that shows i386 then you set your machine up for 32-bit, and
your processor, running kernel, ... are irrelevant. What is going
on is that the build for the cairo package appears to set itself
for 64-bit builds on machines that support them.

And I guess this is what is happening as the result of running the
command was i386.  Any way to get cairo to try and install as i386
at this time or move Fink into the x86_64 world?

 James

cairo's build needs to be fixed.

Understood.  I'll be looking for this.

 James

[Fink-users] FYI: Big Qt Changes Committed

2011-05-17 Thread Benjamin Reed

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

I'm committing BIG updates to the Qt4 packages. I've been putting this
off for a while now, but because phonon is a moving target (and KDE 4.6
will require a newer phonon than what is provided in Qt) I've finally
bitten the bullet and chopped the qt4-* packages up into smaller pieces,
using the -unified model for replacements.

The major changes are:

* Every shared library gets a separate -shlibs file
* QtWebKit is split into separate packages
* Phonon is split into separate packages

I'm pleasantly surprised by how many things have very few dependencies
on Qt. Plenty of stuff *only* needs QtCore, or QtCore/QtNetwork/QtGui
at runtime, so the deb-dependencies actually get quite a bit smaller
when chopped up this way.

- -If- you upgrade part way, your packages will be in an inconsistent
state, but the actual files should always be consistent. In other
words, qt4-base-*, qtwebkit-*, and phonon-* Replaces: the existing qt4-*
packages, but it doesn't Conflicts: with them. There are new
qt4-(x11|mac)-* packages which use fink-obsolete-packages to provide a
clean upgrade path; once they are installed, you should have a
consistent package database and filesystem.

No matter how much testing I can do, I'm sure someone will run into
issues, so I wanted to warn people. =) Please let me know if you hit
any issues, I'll look into them as soon as humanly possible.

This lays the groundwork for finally getting KDE up to 4.6, which is
next on my list. =)

Yeah, 'open -a' is not completing right (although 'open' does). Trying
to figure out how to fix it, but not real clear on how the compgen stuff
works.

In revision 2000, why did you replace `/bin/pwd -P` by `/bin/pwd` in
the unfixify patch? Could this be the cause of the problem?

 costabel% cd /sw
 costabel% /bin/pwd
 /sw
 costabel% /bin/pwd -P
 /sw64

I haven't looked at the latest version, but it used to be that they
used the fixified dir name (the physical name, same as produced by
`/bin/pwd -P`) in some of the installation directories, and the
installation failed because of this. This is supposed to be taken
care of by that part of the PatchScript, but it only works if
 `/bin/pwd -P` is used.

Wow, good catch, I might have messed it up in the process of updating
things. I bet that's it.

 Thanks.

It is a problem unique to 10.5/ppc that I have not been able to figure
out yet. I have a bug open to the mono folks but have been unable to
get traction on figuring out how to fix it. It's deep in powerpc
assembly, which I am nowhere near qualified to fix. :)

Interesting. Looks like I need to package qt4-mysql then. I'll look

One more thing, I don't know if this is signifcant of anything, but
the kmail.shell script inside the app is funny:

Yeah. Those aren't actually used at startup, I think they're there for

I can confirm this now: With the new qt4-mac installed, qmake produces a

above error does not happen, and qtpfsgui-mac builds OK.

I suspect that this is not a problem with the new qt4 version, but a
result of Fink's *.la-file cleaning policy. I think qmake uses
dependency_libs fields from some *.la files to construct the
QMAKE_PRL_LIBS variable, which it then puts into the Makefile.

If my suspicion is right, then putting the right libraries back into
that variable will require a major coding effort.

Nasty. I suppose perhaps the easiest fix is to hand-repair the .prl
files in the qt4 packages?

Watch for updates as I get things fixed up for x86_64, but kde4 on
x86_64 will always be a subset of kde4 on i386, since there's still
plenty of KDE4 stuff that wants Qt3Support framework, which is not built
on Cocoa-Qt.

If you really want good KDE4 support, you're better off redoing your
fink install as i386. (x86_64 on 10.5 is very poorly tested, anyways,
since few people are running it)

Please let me know how you go.

Looks good so far, except libdvdnav4 is definitely broken from a
packaging point of view. libdvdnav.4.dylib is already packaged, in
libdvdnav/libdvdnav4-shlibs, so that package should be updated to
require libdvdread.4 instead of making a whole new one, since that
breaks upgrades.

The x264 info file is named wrong, too, it should be libx264-dev.info.

Also, you will need to rev-up the other libdvdread* packages so that
they can be updated to conflict with libdvdread.4.

I'm doing a 10.4/ppc build right now, but in the meantime, here's a
bundle of the changes so far.

Yes, it was wrong for about 3 minutes. :)

It's fixed now, and making it's way to the mirrors.

 Salut, Johann.

Fink only works with versions of Perl shipped by either Apple or Fink
itself. System's Perl on OS 10.5 is 5.8.8, whilst on OS 10.6 it's
 5.10.0.

It seems you've installed this (odd) version of Perl yourself. What do

Not true. OSX comes with 5.8.9 as well. While 5.10.0 is the default,
you can make /usr/bin/perl run 5.8.9 by setting
VERSIONER_PERL_VERSION=5.8.9 in your environment, or by using the
`defaults` command to override the default:

  defaults write com.apple.versioner.perl Version 5.8.9

There are lots of other wacky things you can do as well to override
this. See `man perl` for all the details.

That said, while the man page describes *how* to change such things for
the defaults, that doesn't mean it's a good idea. :P

I don't know if it will be enough to make it work, but you could try
something along the lines of:

  sudo env VERSIONER_PERL_VERSION=5.10.0 ./bootstrap

...for installing, and see if that works.

Odd.

I know Qt hardcodes the compiler into qmake, I wonder if I just need

[Fink-users] Package Database Updated

2009-09-07 Thread Benjamin Reed
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Yesterday I (finally) got the PDB code updated and moved to the new
server. It now lists 10.6, and x86_64, and should always have the
correct info since it's on a fast enough system that I can run a full
index every 2 hours, instead of trying to do incremental ones every day. ;)

Please wander around an let me know if you see anything that doesn't
look like what you expect it should, but as far as I can tell, it's
looking like it's moving smoothly.

Hm, spoke too soon. Looks like the DNS propagation hasn't finished yet.

If the output of `host pdb.finkproject.org` is 213.84.134.226 then
you've got the new system. If not, you've still got a little while
until you get the new fast PDB. ;)

Because KDE4 can be installed as either mac or x11 packages, each KDE4

/sw/opt/kde4/x11.

KDE/Mac does not support startkde -- it doesn't provide a desktop

KDE/X11 does, and it is /sw/opt/kde4/x11/bin/startkde

[Fink-users] I'm breaking KDE4 to make it stronger!

2009-06-09 Thread Benjamin Reed
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Just a warning, if you've been using any KDE4 packages, there is an
issue with the way the packages were made, regarding the X11 versions,
case-sensitivity, and conflicts with other packages.

Generally, we are incredibly anal about clean upgrade paths in Fink, but
since KDE4 is relatively new in Fink, and relatively experimental, I'm
going to do a one-time breakage to put things in a better place.

I'm still doing final testing, but I wanted to give a head's up to folks
who are using KDE4 packages. Instead of /sw/lib/{x11,mac}, they will
live in /sw/opt/kde4/{x11,mac}.

On the bright side, in the process, I've fixed a ton of stuff:

* kdebase-workspace is supported - I have a fully working KDE4 desktop
  in X11: http://is.gd/WkYd
* all kinds of setup/postinst/etc. stuff is fixed up - that means that
kbuildsycoca is working reliably, all the background apps do what
they're supposed to, and so on
* KOffice applications actually integrate with finder, and I will work
on doing this in other apps when I get the time: http://is.gd/Wl1r
* mac versions of kded, knotify, and kdeinit don't show up in the dock

There are still plenty of bugs, but KDE4 is starting to look pretty
good. I'll post an announcement when things are available, I'd
appreciate some testers. :)

It looks like your entire KDE has been built against a newer X11. The
only real fix is to re-install xquartz in that case, since clearly the
binaries you've installed have been built against xquartz in the first
place (and Apple then downgraded it with a security or 10.5.x update.)

Looks like you have a non-standard perl your path that might be
confusing things, but that said, there's a typo in the info file
that's escaping the wrong character. ;)

I've committed an updated version, should show up on the mirrors
soon... Let me know if that works better.

This type of error is usually caused by having BDB installed in
/usr/local which is a different version from Fink's. What do you get for
ls -l /usr/local/include/db*? If you get anything, try renaming
 /usr/local temporarily, then rebuilding redland.

Ah, ok, 'cause I couldn't find anything wrong in the package (couldn't
reproduce the error here...)

Hope that fixes it, 'cause I've got nuthin'. :)

doesn't cause any issues for them. I tested it with a few apps that use
dbus (including starting up a gnome desktop) but if anyone has any

I'm testing a patch now that should fix it, I hope. =)

Yup, gnome-session was doing bad things. Update to gnome-session
2.24.3-3 and it should work again.

Have these notorious bugs been reported to the maintainer? I've been

running pretty well (regedit works, too). Or are you using stable-only?
