Re: [Flashcoders] flash 8 security hint
Hi Johan, I will actually do a round up before posting the details to the list (project is very big (lots of SWFs) and confidential) Thanks for your suggestion. Cedric As far as I know Player 8 security restrictions while loading applies to movies of all versions. IT could also be a script error like an incorrect casing. Since it works in version 6 and not 7 or 8. Can you post the script associated with loading the php files? /Johan -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Cedric Muller Sent: den 11 januari 2006 15:51 To: Flashcoders@chattyfig.figleaf.com Subject: [Flashcoders] flash 8 security hint Could anyone tell me why A.swf can load B.swf, but B.swf cannot call scripts (php) ? all of these (A.swf, B.swf and scripts.php) are sitting on http://www.mydomain.com/anyDir/ and are Flash 8 swfs (though it is also failing with Flash 7 swfs. No. Print Dialogue is there because of some reason, where a malicious script doesn't start printing thousands of pages on users computer. RE: [Flashcoders] Hiding Print Dialog Box
Hi Abdul We have provisions to surpress print Dialog box in VB, .NET and many other language, tools. All are used to built rich internet applications. Don't you feel they are flash competitors and equally used in market for building good products. If these people can provide such capabilities, I'ld like to request such feature in flash too. And if we are discussing this in open , I'ld also request to have options in standalone flash itself to perform FSO as well as database connectivity operations. I have been using flash from past many years and been a fan of this. I have seen that flash can used in challenging application but we lack at every last mile for some or other reason explained as security issue. Why don't microsft limit this access to their tools . Are they less worried about their end users? [Flashcoders] Still same problem with loads in Local
Hello. I posted my problem several times two weeks ago. I haven't found a solution. The Scene: i'm programming a Projector-Flash Project that loads contents in local. It uses _levels, AS2, and a MovieClipLoader to load contents in each _level through navigation in the app. The Problem: when i Load the swf's in the appropiate _level, the previous _level goes frozen (even a simple animation of time to wait during load). I also tried a preloader technique in the swf that is being loaded with two scenes, but the animation of the first scene also is frozen until the complete load is made. I think the cause of the problem is the following reason: When i load in remote, there is a portion of memo/processor free. So i can make anything during this time. When i load in local, all the resources are taken to make the load, so anything is frozen till the load is complete. Re: [Flashcoders] 2 Issues Optimizing JPGs and Memory Problem?
Hi Loren, On 1/13/06, Loren R. Elks [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: OK. Here's the first one. I know if you try to compress an already compressed image (like a jpg), that artifacts will result. So, when using jpgs in Flash, should you first optimize as much as possible in Photoshop then place in Flash and compress more, or keep the image at it's original resolution and just let Flash handle the compression by adjusting the JPEG Quality slider under SWF - Publish Settings? When you choose Flash's compression settings, it renders it when you publish it AFAIK - so it doesn't really matter (swf-wise) where you do the optimization (however, it affects the publish time). The bigger the resolution the more it takes for Flash to render it. I learned that jpegs with high resolutions (huge dimensions), and low quality (high compression settings) more of than not come up with the best quality/file size ratio. If you want, you can play around with this class I wrote that forces an object to stay as a bitmap (read http://www.flashkit.com/board/showthread.php?t=659163 for more details). That way, you can load a jpg with large res, cache it as a bitmap so that when Flash handles it, it handles it as a small picture. Number two. I'm working on a small simulation (the FLA file is about 2.5MB). There is no video or audio used. When I publish, it takes a long time for the Publishing progress bar to move. When I look at my Task Manager in Windows, it tacks out at 100% and it shows Flash.exe is using ~172MB of memory! What do you think is the problem (Flash, computer memory)? That's probably some corruption in the Flash file. It shouldn't take long to move, unless your computer is slow. If it's like this with this file only, try copying all frames and pasting it in a few FLA. Thanks, Loren Goodluck, -- Ramon Miguel M. Re: [Flashcoders] Flash Lite 2.0 phone list
Does anybody know about any plans for Palm OS flash player? On 1/12/06, Nick Gerig [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: The majority of Non-Nokia devices listed are Japanese handsets with FL1.1 or FL1.0 preinstalled. - All the phones that could be supported using the current technology once distribution deals with the manufacturers are sorted out No - any phones there are because the deals have already been done - All the phones that the current player will run on once the current testing period is over. I assumed FL2.0 is final and only the IDE extension is pre-release software - All the phones that the Flash Lite 2.0 player could be ported to if someone pays Macrobe to do it. FL2.0 could be ported to literally any phone if someone pays :) Which of these applies will make a big difference to the speed of adoption - if the current player will be released for all these models in a few months then this could become quite big pretty quickly - otherwise its going to take a while. The issue currently is that is that although there is a long list of Nokias that FL will run on, will a player ever be distributed for those phones? The short answer is that unless the old MM policy has changed with Adobe - NO! Nokia will distribute the FL player in its emerging handsets, in fact it has already started in Asia with the N90, most probably worldwide with the N91 this month. But the older Nokia's will never get a FL player unless someone pays for it. IMHO this is a massive hit that only the developer community and consumers take, even if it does also have a slight impact on the growth of the FL content market which is still pretty immature outside Japan. The only situation where older Nokias will get FL2 is where a service provide/operator decides to license the player for its customers with existing Nokia handsets, however that is not necessarily a smooth process because each player is IMEI tied and therefore cumbersome to deliver OTA. Hope that helps a little. cheers Nick ___ Flashcoders mailing list Flashcoders@chattyfig.figleaf.com http://chattyfig.figleaf.com/mailman/listinfo/flashcoders ___ Flashcoders mailing list Flashcoders@chattyfig.figleaf.com http://chattyfig.figleaf.com/mailman/listinfo/flashcoders

Works fine in all browsers, Mac and PC, EXCEPT IE 6 on the PC! As far as I know, NetStream.Play.Paused is not returned for Progressive download flv's. Only for FCS Streaming video. I usually use a Boolean value that is toggled when either playback begins or the user clicks the pause/play buttons, or the video is buffering. Seems to work for me. Re: [Flashcoders] Copying a DataSet
There is no such thing as passing variables by value in flash. Having a language automatically create major system data structures seems fraught with the potential for unintended consequences because of the hierarchical nature of data structures which point to data structures. If you want to make a copy, you need to explicitly make a copy of it. This is not actually so easy if you are not careful. What you really want to do is create a new dataset and set the dataProvider of the new dataset to the dataProvider of the old dataset. This will have the effect of copying everything out of the old dataset into the new one. The reason for this, which is not obvious, is that the dataprovider field is really a getter function that copys data (value) rather than copy's pointers or references. Yeah... thank God it's Sci-Fi Friday, or I'd cry about no native Object.clone() again. - Original Message - From: hank williams [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Flashcoders mailing list flashcoders@chattyfig.figleaf.com Sent: Friday, January 13, 2006 5:52 PM Subject: Re: [Flashcoders] Copying a DataSet Yeah, I really meant there is no such thing as passing *complex* variables in flash, for the reason I explained. [Flashcoders] Error only when live - pulling my hair out !!!
Hello, I have a flash based app. that works fine when run in the IDE or locally on my machine, however, when I upload the app. to my server, it doesn't work. The app. just freezes my machine and I get the damned A script in this movie is causing Macromedia Flash Player 8 to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort the script message. How can I see where the error in my script lies if it only occurs online ?. I could use the debugger if it were happening within the IDE but how can I debug a remote SWF ? Is this possible, PLEEEASE help if you can I AM PULLING MY HAIR OUT over this. If it were Coldfusion or PHP I would get an exact location of the error and could go and fix it, surely I can do this somehow ? Any advice GREATLY appreciated. Thanks, Stephen. ___ Flashcoders mailing list Flashcoders@chattyfig.figleaf.com http://chattyfig.figleaf.com/mailman/listinfo/flashcoders

Re: [Flashcoders] Error only when live - pulling my hair out !!!
If you: - turn on Remote Debugging in the Flash 8 debugger - install the debug player for whatever browser you are using - upload the SWD file You'll then be able to debug your SWF remotely. Slow as nuts, but it works. - Original Message - From: jim [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 'Flashcoders mailing list' flashcoders@chattyfig.figleaf.com Sent: Friday, January 13, 2006 8:31 PM Subject: RE: [Flashcoders] Error only when live - pulling my hair out !!!
