[Flashcoders] using eval(array element)

2007-06-13 Thread Paul V.
Hello,
Firstly, I know that the eval(); method is old (depreciated), but I have
come to appreciate it. And I am wanting to work it in a for loop generating
and array. Here is the set up. array of strings

stringArray = new Array(string1,string2,etc);

for(j=0;jstringArrayTotal;j+=2){
 trace(stringArray[j+1]); //traces element expected at j+1 value;
 month = eval(months[j+1]);
 trace(month);  //traces undefined;
}

an answer to the above question would be obviously appreciated.

thank you,

[Flashcoders] Bitmap text (no anti-alias) still aliasing?

2007-06-13 Thread matt stuehler

All,

I'm working on an application with lots of long text content using
11pt fonts. To enhance readability, I'm using Bitmap text (no
anti-alias).

However, in long (tall) static text blocks, PARTS of the text are
aliasing. In other words, the first few paragraphs will have have no
anti-alias, then a few paragraphs will, and then the last few won't,
even though it's all part of the same static text field.

I've ensured that the _x and _y co-ordinates are integers, as are the
_x and _y co-ordinates of the movieclip that contains the text field.
And that movieclip is on level 0, so that means that the text field is
definitely on integer pixels.

The result is that the text looks terrible - parts are crystal clear,
and other parts are blurry - the inconsistency is what's so annoying.

Has anyone else run into this problem, or come up with a solution?
I've tried a variety of fonts, and line-spacing, to no avail.

Many thanks in advance for your advice and insight!

Cheers,
Matt Stuehler

Re: [Flashcoders] Bitmap text (no anti-alias) still aliasing?

2007-06-13 Thread Alias™

Don't use the bitmap text option in the properties tab, set the font
to _sans, _serif, or _typewriter instead. This will force flash
to use the machine's local device fonts instead. The only drawback
with this is that you may run into issues with masking/fading the
text, but it should be manageable if you're aware of the constraints
from the start.

Hope this helps,
Alias

Re: [Flashcoders] Bitmap text (no anti-alias) still aliasing?

2007-06-13 Thread matt stuehler

Alias,

Many thanks for that suggestion!

As you suggested, using device fonts does in fact fix the anti-aliasing problem

However, giving up the ability to use masks seems like a pretty
serious compromise.

Another problem this causes - I need to be able to determine the
height of these text fields, and it looks like Flash isn't able to
properly determine the height when device fonts are used. In other
words, if you have a clip containing only a static text field that
uses device fonts, Flash won't properly calculate the height of that
clip.

Is there a way around this issue too?

Thanks again for you insight.

Cheers,
Matt

Re: [Flashcoders] Bitmap text (no anti-alias) still aliasing?

2007-06-13 Thread matt stuehler

Alias,

My apologies - I was a little premature in my last post.

It looks like Flash doesn't properly calculate the height of static
text field using a device font IF you select Use device fonts and
select a particular font. However, if you use font = _sans as you
suggested (which forces the use device fonts setting), then Flash
does calculate the height correctly.

In other words, if you're using a device font, Flash will properly
calculate the height if the font is _sans, _serif, or _typewriter
(which is exactly what you suggested); but not if you use another
font.

All in all, this is a pretty good workaround for my particular
project, but I still wonder why the Bitmap text (no anti-alias)
setting doesn't work as you'd expect?

Thanks again.

Cheers,
Matt

[Flashcoders] re: preloading images from xml

2007-06-13 Thread Poole, Simon
Hi

Im having an issue with the following code. It is tracing the individual
thumbnail images correctly with the onLoadProgess function, but will only
display the percent loaded and loadbar for the last image (image 10), once
this one has preloaded, all the other images then appear correctly.

I would like it to preload all 10 images, displaying the percent and loadbar
for all 10.

The thumbnails images are buttons for a flv video player.

Ive been trying to fix this for ages and can sort it, its doing my head in!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[Flashcoders] How do I get rid of enhanced stroke?

2007-06-13 Thread Alistair Colling
Hi there, I've received some graphics in an FLA from a designer and

I've tried doing this by breaking the images apart but the enhanced

the image has diagonal lines .

Any suggestions on how to do this very gratefully received,

Use Modify Shapes Convert lines to fills. You will lose stroke

Re: [Flashcoders] Bitmap text (no anti-alias) still aliasing?

2007-06-13 Thread Phil Chung
Matt,

I've found that there are 2 common reasons why bitmap fonts are blurry in
some regions:

1) The textfield has been stretched to a size other than 100% (even 100.1%
causes issues). Check your Transform panel to make sure.

2) Certain characters within the text can cause problems. For example, I'd
previously pasted some text from MS Word into a text file and loaded that
into a textfield with an embedded bitmap font. Parts would be crisp, but
others blurry. I narrowed it down to the apostrophe that was pasted from MS
Word (other characters can also cause issues). Once i replaced it with a
plain apostrophe, it was all good.

Not sure if either of these is the cause for your situation, but its worth a
try.

Phil

Cheers,
Matt

 Alias,

 Many thanks for that suggestion!

As you suggested, using device fonts does in fact fix the anti-aliasing
problem

However, giving up the ability to use masks seems like a pretty
 serious compromise.

Another problem this causes - I need to be able to determine the
height of these text fields, and it looks like Flash isn't able to
properly determine the height when device fonts are used. In other
words, if you have a clip containing only a static text field that
uses device fonts, Flash won't properly calculate the height of that
 clip.

Is there a way around this issue too?

 Thanks again for you insight.

 Cheers,
 Matt

Re: [Flashcoders] using eval(array element)

In your example code, 'month' IS undefined. Array first element is [0] and
as your trace says trace(stringArray[j+1]);, that's exactly what you'll
get the first time through. Also, the for next loop won't increment the j
variable until the loop is completed. Let me know if I have misenterpreted
your question.

flashcoder.net

 Hello,
Firstly, I know that the eval(); method is old (depreciated), but I
have come to appreciate it. And I am wanting to work it in a for loop
generating and array. Here is the set up. array of strings

 stringArray = new Array(string1,string2,etc);

 for(j=0;jstringArrayTotal;j+=2){
  trace(stringArray[j+1]); //traces element expected at j+1 value;
  month = eval(months[j+1]);
  trace(month);  //traces undefined;
 }

an answer to the above question would be obviously appreciated.

 thank you,

Recent versions of illustrator create enhanced strokes even if there
is no enhancement.

Save the file as a lower version (Flash 8 to Flash MX) then open it
up and save again to your current version. The strokes should resolve
themselves.

With Flash CS3 this problem is fixed I think.

stroke still remains. Converting the image to a bitmap looks bad as
the image has diagonal lines .
Any suggestions on how to do this very gratefully received,
Thanks!
Ali

[Flashcoders] JSFL not getting along with Swedish characters

2007-06-13 Thread Steven Sacks

There is an issue with JSFL not being able to open an FLA using

fl.openDocument(path)

where path contains a special character, a Swedish vowel. It seems that
the vowel is being removed from the string.

This is how the path is generated:

FLfile.listFolder() is used to target a folder, which JSFL copies files
to from an absolute location (in the Configuration folder).

The two separate FLfile.listFolder() calls are handled in Flash,
however. One call occurs and the result is passed back to Flash, and it
is then passed back to another JSFL file to use for the second call.

Any ideas?

Muzak,

If this is a known issue, is there a known solution?

Thanks,
Steven

2007-06-13 Thread Muzak
mmm, now that I reread the Error message, it might actually be the . in the
path to the fla.

 Cannot find file:///C|asplundski.projects/src/main.fla

The missing vowel is in the path to the jsfl file, which Flash seems to be able
to find just fine, because it says:
At line 63 of file ... path to jsfl

So I'll withdraw my money and put it on the dot, hehe..

As for a known issue, not that I know of, but as soon as I see something like
can't find file with a non-english OS that's the
first thing that comes to mind here (as I'm on a non-english OS).

[Flashcoders] syntax checking in flex

The eclipse IDE highlights syntax errors, but only for source files that are

I'm trying to write some framework code, and it's annoying to have to write

I would like it to preload all 10 images, displaying the percent and loadbar

The thumbnails images are buttons for a flv video player.

Ive been trying to fix this for ages and can sort it, its doing my head in!

[Flashcoders] Embedding fonts from library AS3

2007-06-13 Thread mario gonzalez

What do you guys find the best way to embed fonts is?

I tried embedding a font using the [embedd] metatag in the class, that
was no go.
Then I said, ah screw it, ill just create an empty dynamic textbox, and
embed the font that way... that worked however
I could not get the font to appear as bitmap text, if i set the dynamic
textbox to 'bitmap text', the font no longer got imported.

What I ended up doing was embedding the font from the library, and now i
say font = new whateverFont.fontName that works great, but i can't
control what characters get embedded and basically it embeds the whole
thing.

What method do you guys normally use?

[Flashcoders] Movie Explorer question

2007-06-13 Thread Jonathan Berry

Hello all!
I have a general question about the Movie Explorer. I like it quite a bit
because we receive FLAs from our partners or third parties that have code
hidden in them at different locations [that nasty object(i.e. mc or
button)-based coding that I tend to shy away from especially]. However, when
an mc or button is attached from the library it appears that code within the
objects is not displayed in the movie explorer. Is there a way to set the
explorer to display this code when present? I have checked on and off all
the options in the interface and have found no way to do this. We are still
using Flash 8, so I don't know if they added this support in the newest
interface. Thanks so much.

Re: [Flashcoders] Bitmap text (no anti-alias) still aliasing?

Not sure if either of these is the cause for your situation, but its worth a
try.

Cheers,
Matt

Matt

The eclipse IDE highlights syntax errors, but only for source files that

This is because mxmlc takes only the used classes in to the swf.

For creating a framework code create a Flex Library Project which compiles
your framework as a .swc file which can be added to the library path of your
flex application project.

Since compc compiler takes all the classes and adds them to .swc error
highlighting will work with all the classes

   Hi Johannes,

this is a little bit vague. Could you be a little more precise?
Right now we have the impression that it has to do with a stream
using
port 80. Our streaming server uses the standard port 1935 (rtmp) and
in some configurations port 80 (rtmpt).
   Does anybody have any idea?

 Hi coders,

we are currently working on a media player for streaming video
playback. The stream comes from a FMS.
Our customers are working with Windows and every time they close
 the
popup containing the player the browser crashes badly. We could
reproduce this *only* on Windows for IE6, IE7, Firefox 1.5x and
 Firefox 2.x.
This does not happen every time but often enough to be annoying
(dependent on the player in one out of five tests). The critical
moment seems to be the time when the stream is buffering before
it
 is
playing the first time. When the clip is running a crash seems
to
 be
less likely (1 out of 15 times). Even if the browser does not
 crash it
takes a noticably long amount of time for the popup window to
 close.
We even checked this behavior for other players, e.g. the
popular
flash media player (http://www.jeroenwijering.com) and with a
 simple
test file built with MM components. The results have been the
 same. In
fact our player seems to be the most stable.

Here are two test pages that open a popup:

 flash media player: http://www.rocket54.de/player/test_fmp.php
 simple MM component test:
 http://www.rocket54.de/player/test_comp.php

Using progressive FLV (not streamed) everything works fine – it
 seems
to be a problem with/when streaming only.

Could this be a problem with the FLVs or the FMS? Does anybody
 have a
 clue on this?

 Thanks
 Olaf

[Flashcoders] IP Network Camera

2007-06-13 Thread misa

Greetings,
Do anybody have experience with IP Network Cameras? I have a live stream
(one for now) that I'm trying to capture somehow and put it dynamically
in to a flash site. My question is - how can I use a IP Network Camera
stream in flash (maybe with some kind of server, don't know) and is it
possible to use only the video without any audio. Thanks in advance!
