Well, it is not a simulator. The SWF is compiled using LLVM to native arm code. Is every native iphone available? No. However, for the APIs that are available, there is no reason to expect that you couldn't build as full featured apps / games / content as you could with any other solution (such as Objective-C or Unity3D). mike chambers m...@adobe.com On Oct 8, 2009, at 5:13 PM, Eric E. I am just beginning my adventure into AS 3, and came upon something. In AS 2 I used to use a custom delegate class to deal with scope issues, but also be able to pass args (in an array, single string, etc) to my event functions. So for example, I might have something in AS 2: // snipped fro ma method for (var j:Number = 0; j 5; j++) { this._targetMc[dtBtn + j].onPress = MyDelegate.create(this, onPressed, j); } // event method function onPressed(i:Number) { trace(i); } So the custom class would allow this to work in my classes. Now in AS 3 as I have read, the basic delegate class is no longer needed as the scope issues are dealt with now. So how would I go about accomplishing the same thing in AS 3? passing an arg to an event method? Thanks! Re: [Flashcoders] [AS3] Compiling just from AS3 code, no mxml files
There is not support for using the Flex Framework in an AS only project. While it is theoretically possible, you would have to manually bootstrap a lot of the application initialization code that Flex handles (something which would be rather complex). If you want to play with the framework, but don't want to layout your app with mxml, then the easier way is to create a simple mxml file that contains an application tag, and a script tag that then points to your code. This way, the application tag will take care of all of the initialization, and you can then leverage the framework via ActionScript. If you just want to use ActionScript and no framework, then mxmlc will also compile an .as file. Or will old functions be deprecated or completely removed? V2 components are written in AS2. In order for those to run within ActionScript 3 content, they would need to be migrated. So, v2 components will not run within an AS3 app. Is it safe to say that our apps will require major conversion to work with AS3? Or possibly written from the ground up? Again, it depends on your content. My guess is that you won't have to re-write it from scratch, but you will have to migrate you code. This falls into two areas: 1. syntax correction / changes 2. API changes (i.e. moved APIs, events no longer requiring proxies). My experience has been that I have had to update syntax modified, and change my event handling code to no longer use event proxies. Re: [Flashcoders] Need for the Flex Server
Just to clarify, we have not removed support for AMF from the player. You can still write code in ActionScript 3 that connects to existing Flash Remoting servers. The Flex Framework currently supports using a newer version of AMF in the player. Currently, the only servers that support this are ColdFusion (via an alpha adapter) and Flex Enterprise Services (which is not in public alpha yet). As far as when third party remoting services support this, you will need to talk to those project's leaders. mike chambers [EMAIL PROTECTED] hank williams wrote: I think that you are right that you need *a* server, but not *the* server. Re: [Flashcoders] Remoting (attn: Mike Chambers)
Hi. First of all, if you need to direct an email to my attention, please email it to me, and not to FlashCoders: [EMAIL PROTECTED] second, as I posted earlier, remoting / AMF0 is supported in the Player (as Muzak demonstrated). AMF0 is not currently supported in the framework (AMF3 is). The mx.* packages are part of the framework. The flash.* classes are part of the player. This is an early ALPHA, so documentation and implimentations may not be complete. mike chambers [EMAIL PROTECTED] hank williams wrote: Ok, so I am potentially back to my original position of being concerned that remoting is not supported. Muzak did some work with the netConnection class, but in the old days remoting worked by requesting a service from a NetConnection by calling connection.getService(servicepath); There is no getService call documented in the actionscript documentation, so my question is how does this work now? I am thinking it is related to the mx.rpc.remoting package, but the documentation seems ah... scant. for the RemoteObject constructor is says: public RemoteObject(destination:String = null) Creates a new RemoteObject. Parameters destination:String (default = null) — [optional] Destination of the RemoteObject; should match a destination name in the flex-services.xml but what is flex-services.xml. And if I am writing pure actionscript why would I need to establish a flex-services.xml file either locally or on a server. I ask this question because you (mike chambers) earlier today said we could do remoting via actionscript without flex components and without the flex enterprise services. So I am really just looking for the equivalent calls to using netConnection and a netServiceProxy.
