[flexcoders] set focus to iframe
Hi I have an application with an iframe showing pdf file at the top and an advanced datagrid(editable) at the bottom I want to set focus to the pdf while entering data in datagrid by pressing ctrl+t. I added listner for key down and used iframe.setFocus(); ya i know it will not work. how can I achive this.. this is similar as Alt + tab change to next open window in the same way i want to implement this.. any suggestions are appreciated. It kind of works... It only mangles some code samples, I've never had problems with the subject lines (though I know others have), and I get threading via outlook some of the time (though outlook has the same problem with this mailing list). I'm actually surprised that you refer to FlexCoders as this mailing list. I only see it in Yahoo Groups, and I visit it when I choose to, just like a forum. I guess it can be used either way. Like another poster said, last time I used the Adobe forums, a few months ago, they were totally broken. Search didn't work at all. Maybe they have been fixed. It was also extremely frustrating because I spent *hours* trying to figure out how to report the broken forum to somebody. Eventually I sent a personal email message to somebody at Adobe whose email address I had. The Adobe Web Site has contact us links that are for things like buying their products but has no way at all to report something like a broken web page or a broken link. [flexcoders] Changing chart preferred size
The flex API points to the fact that the ChartBase (and the other charts that are derived from it) have a preferred size of 400x400 (towards the top of http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/langref/mx/charts/chartClasses/ChartBase.html). I am having an issue where I want the chart to take up 100% of the container that it is in (so when it is resized, it stays the same size as the container). By simply specifying percentWidth and percentHeight as 100 - when the dimension of the container is less than 400, the chart resizes properly; however, when the dimension of the container becomes larger than 400, the chart remains at the 400x400 size. Is there a way to change or remove this preferred size constraint from the chart? I've looked through all the variables and functions that seem relevant, but none of them have the intended effect. -Aaron

[flexcoders] What is the best material to learn Flex 3 and AS3?
I got 2 books , one Flex 3 cookbook and it seems to difficult to follow. I purchased Actionscript 3(Lynda.com) video with Joel Lott and that seems hard to follow as well.All that addlistener dispatcher seems pure Hebrew to me. I only did a little bit of html in my life so maybe Flex 3 is too much for me? Any suggestions that you may have that could help me learn Flex 3?
[flexcoders] DITA to Adobe Flex (A challenge too great for humanity...)
For those of you who are uninitiated in DITA, it is a single-source xml format that can be converted into HTML, PDF, AIR, and CHM. I am now tasked with taking existing DITA content (which can become any of the formats above), which we have now authored a healthy amount of, and making this content display within an Adobe flex swf. Here is the real rub, this swf will not run inside of a browser, and thusly I can't just convert all the content to HTML and use an iFrame to hackishly display the HTML content inside of it. Nor may I use any of the methods for HTML display in Flex that use the actual browser. I've tried to use the htmltext tag in Flex to display the HTML content in a flex app, but this tag is far too weak. It doesn't do tables, it basically ignores spans and divs. Plus from what I understand CSS (In the W3C format) doesn't play nicely with mxml or ActionScript (They say there is css support in ActionScript 3.0, but this is a lie as it seems to impose all sorts of restrictions and won't get applied only on specific tags within the htmltext section). However, there is a possiblity that I am using ActionScipt CSS wrong (I have less than a week mxml experience and less than a month AS experience). I am hoping that I will not need to resort to taking the PDF output, converting it to JPG or SWF and throwing it into an App, but things are looking bleaker by the day. If anyone has any advice at all to get any of these forms into a flex app that can't utilize the web browser, it would be massively appreciated.

I have already tried:
1. Creating a variable of MenuBar in MainApp, this resolves the crash,
but not an accepted solutions, as MainApp cannot be complied again on creating
another module.
2. Extend CustomModule from Module class.
3. Similar issue is with checkbox, where application does not crash,
but draws like a button.
Checkbox issue gets resolved if CustomModule extends Module.
or theme is added to Appconfig.xml
theme append=true
filename${flexlib}/libs/framework.swc/filename
/theme
4. Different settings for Flex sdk in Library Path. i.e MergeIntoCode,

If you minimize all the panels except the pie chart panel, you will note the pie chart gets much larger than 400x400 and piechart is derived from chartbase. Look at adding event metadata. If you add an event called myCustomEvent in the metadata and dispatch it from the inner component, you are able to handle it from the outer component like this: mx:app mx:customComponent / mx:customComponent / /mx:customComponent myCustomEvent=handleMyCustomEvent(event) / /mx:app That's the easy way to do it. If you have multiple levels of nesting, I've found it easiest to use a Model Singleton that extends EventDispatcher and dispatch the events and listen to the events through the model. [flexcoders] code hinting won't work occasionally since switch to ant builds
Ever since I started using ant to build my app, every once in a while I get a situation where one project is not seeing (as in code hinting) classes from other projects that are dependencies. I thought that refreshing the workspace fixed the problem, but this time around, that is not helping. Anyone have any ideas how I might fix this problem?

I was looking into a problem similar to this a few days ago. I
noticed in the Repeater.as framework code, that it ignores changes to
the dataProvider collection that are of type
CollectionEventKind.UPDATE. Thus, if you modify an item in the
underlying data provider, the repeater will not update. If you
add/remove an item, it will update.

This is super easy using startDrag and seems to be stupid hard using the DragManager. Am I missing something? Why would this relatively common need not be addressed in the DragManager? I have seen like 20 people ask the same question with no answer. I found a way to kindof do this.
It's not perfect but I guess it's acceptable.
It only works as long as you don't move the mouse outside the container that
you want to restrict dragging to.
Once you mouse out of the container the proxy goes wherever the mouse goes
again.
Pretty weak.
I will post again if I find a better solution.

A little more info - I have the following: mx:app - event never gets here mx:customComponent - this tabcontainer handles it just fine mx:customComponent / - this is a popup titlewindow which dispatches the event /mx:customComponent /mx:app I dispatch the event from the popped-up titlewindow. I have bubbles=true. I'm sorry, I'm not understanding why the event isn't making it up to the application level. I even tried taking out the event listener on the next level up. What now? I know what I'm reading up on this weekend :)

[flexcoders] Hierarchical Tree Data
How do you generally handle generating hierarchical tree data from a database. Lets say I had a query that returned *Name, ID, ParentID* with an indefinite number of nest levels, and I wanted to turn that into a nice xml structure - do you usually peform that transofrmation at the DB layer, the app layer, or is there perhaps an easy Flex function that can take care of that? The ideal function would take the query and ask for the id and parentid properties to use to recurse through the query, i.e. generateNestedXMLFromFlatQuery(QueryData, ID_ColumnName, ParentID_columnName):XML; Thoughts?

I need to change the style of items in a list when they are mousedOver while dragging but none of the mouseOver events fire while dragging. I tried setting mouseEnabled=false on the DragProxy but that did nothing. Is there any way to get mouseOver events while dragging? Or is there another way to tell that I have moused over a list item while dragging? I need it because while dragging items in a list to a different index in the same list only certain drop indexes are allowed and I need to make some visual feedback to let the user know where they can drop in the list. --Kelly
