Re: [flexcoders] Sound issues in Player 10

2008-10-23 Thread Matt Chotin
I'm assuming we'll turn on the auto-update in a while, but otherwise it just
gets updated if a site requires it. If we have some critical crashing bugs we
try to get a bug fix out, but it does take time.

 Oh, and as a note to everyone. If you have a site that worked in
 FP9 and not in FP10, that's generally a bug (unless it's due to
 security changes) and should be filed in JIRA ASAP :-) If the url
 is public, that's good enough.

Does the flash player auto update clients, or only when they encounter
content that requires the user to upgrade their plugin (i don't
actually know as we always install as soon as we can :P)

Generally, what is Adobe's course of action here ? A bug fix update
in the next few months, possibly sooner ??

I've got quite a few users that will have their browsers crashing on
all platforms when they come to our site and I am not looking forward
to the support issues. (Yes its already logged in JIRA).

[flexcoders] Sound issues in Player 10

2008-10-22 Thread Steve Mathews
I started getting reports that our product quit working in Flash Player 10
so I started investigating it. I found that loaded audio, video with audio
and swfs with audio all quit working. So if you look at
http://www.flypaper.com/product/quicktour.aspx with player 9 installed, then
with 10 you can see that it doesn't work. In this case it is a loaded swf
that has the animation and audio on the timeline. I have put together
several test cases but all of them work fine. At this point I can't think of
any reason this would quit working in player 10.
Has anyone seen any issues like this, or can someone from Adobe give me some
advice on tracking down the issue?
I would log a bug in the tracker, but without a test case I can't really say
what is wrong.
Thanks,
Steve

I just went there in Firefox and Safari on the Mac and heard the voiceover fine
with my debug version of FP10. What browsers/OS's are you testing with?

I have seen it on XP/Vista in IE7 and FF3. I asked my artists to test on a
Mac tonight.

2008-10-22 Thread Matt Chotin
Hi Steve,

Our team tested and it did reproduce. We are filing an internal bug on this.
It didn't reproduce on Mac for them, so it must be a Windows bug. I'll see if
we find out a workaround.

Re: [flexcoders] Sound issues in Player 10

2008-10-22 Thread Steve Mathews
Thanks Matt.
I have tracked down the problem, but I don't exactly know why it wasn't
working. Basically it was around a poorly written bit of code like this:

private function loadBackgroundMusic():void{
   var file:URLRequest=new URLRequest(background.mp3);
   BackgroundMusic=new Sound(file);

BackgroundMusic.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR,function(e:IOErrorEvent):void{});
   BackgroundMusic.play(0,int.MAX_VALUE);
}

It seems that when the file is not found and the IO Error fires sound is
screwed up through out the swf.
