Re: [Flexradio] Smart SDR static IP
Mark quite honestly I wouldn't say your use case is very common. Direct IP is probably(definitely) a ways out at this time, and using a Ham radio in a commercial multi subnet environment make is even less common. Depending on your IT policies your workaround is probably limited to a vpn connection between subnets, and one that supports broadcast traffic over vpn. Flex Radio's "LAN" remote capability was proven to mostly work fine over WAN with VPN, even though they don't officially support it. I had it running within 30 minutes of the functionality release. So what is your solution? perhaps a soft ether vpn. Check the flex community and you will find plenty of information on this. VPN into the other subnet and allow broadcast traffic. The 6000 is a work in progress, and there are many things being worked on and developed. there are 3rd party apps, and new peripherals nearing release now that will need similar re-architecture to make this work.. Were I you I would start looking into a creative solution that you can come up with for your environment, to use the product now... IP based connectivity will require a significant architectural shift and will take those guys significant time to implement. Just my 2 cents, your mileage may vary. GL.. Basically, if you are filling > out a table in your router somewhere that takes your device's MAC and > assigns it to the same IP address every time, you've found it under > whatever name it is. Speaking of which, I'm somewhat baffled that SmartSDR (1.6.21) does not seem to have a way I can connect by entering the (already known) IP address of the 6700 -- assigned by DHCP with a "fixed" IP. If I'm missing something, please someone tell me. Maybe there is some .INI file setting or unpublished command option? Broadcast discovery only works if you are in the same subnet of the same LAN. It's the easy way to make things work for a typical home user, but without a way to override by specifying the radio's IP, this broadcast-only mechanism cripples my ability to use the Flex, and I'd think would be a limiting factor for many others too. For more advanced users, like in a commercial or multi-subnet LAN setup, even with fast local unfiltered connectivity between SmartSDR and the radio, SmartSDR cannot discover the radio if they aren't on the same subnet. For examble, Windows under VMWare Fusion on a Mac cannot make a local-subnet broadcast via WiFi, because there is a separate internal virtual network involved since the virtual machine cannot directly share the same IP on the wireless network adapter. I cannot use SmartSDR on my WiFi connected laptop--I have to run a wire out the window to the patio to plug in my laptop so my VMware Windows IP is on the same subnet as the 6700. I cannot reach the Flex-6700 from a PC in the other building, because they aren't in the same broadcast domain, even though there is no port filtering in between. Why can't I just type the 6700's IP address into SmartSDR somewhere??? This is so frustrating! Mark -- Mark G. Hi Jim, Thanks. You pointed me to the Zombie port problem a few months ago when I first started trying to get this FlexControl installed, so I've been through that more than a few times. I think you told me about assigning the COM ports back then as well. I was pretty sure I tried it, but tried it again today just for the heck of it. It didn't help. But what was strange is when I pushed the button to change the Comport, a bunch of ports showed "In use" even though I have deleted all the hidden Zombie ports, and have removed all of the serial and USB-to-serial devices and ports from the computer. However, even choosing a port that wasn't claimed to be in use would not allow me to install the FlexControl. [Flexradio] FlexControl installation problems
Hi, So I've been having an on-going problem trying to install a FlexControl in Windows 7 64 bit. I have tired two Flex Controls with the same results. I have shut off the on-board COM port in the BIOS I have disconnected all USB devices I have uninstalled VSPMgr and confirmed there are no zombie ports remaining Whenever I plug the FlexControl in, it looks for the driver and fails to install it. Re: [Flexradio] RFI on 10 meter
Ulf, I am not currently a Flex user. Was in the past but this is kind of a general - non-flex issue. I am assuming from what you said that your shack is in the barn. If this is the case remember that the counterpoise - the metal roof on the barn - is the other half of a 1/2 wave dipole. Being such it will be hot with RF while transmitting. So you are essentially sitting right underneath an RF source. Not good. All I can suggest is better shielded mike cable and ferrite chokes on the mike cable and probably all other cables as well. Re: [Flexradio] FlexControl Installation
Today I physically removed the serial port card and USB devices except the USB mouse. The problem persists. The only devices listed under COM and LPT ports in the device manager is a PCI Parallel port (LPT3). I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver with and without the FlexControl attached using the batch files in the PowerSDR 2.4.4\FlexControl 64 folder. I searched the registry looking for a COM port listing (I searched for COM16) and found it listed under the following keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Ports HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\ Ports HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Enum\FTDIBus\VID_0403+PID_6001+A4016 Z2MA\000 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet002\Enum\FTDIBus\VID_0403+PID_6001+A4016 Z2MA\000 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\FTDIBus\VID_0403+PID_6001+A 4016Z2MA\000 I don't know if any of this helps. I don't know much about the registry, but am curious why the COM port shows up in the CurrentControlSet, yet does not show up anywhere in Device manager - even under hidden devices. Re: [Flexradio] FlexControl Installation
Jim, I gave your suggestion a try. It's really strange because when I go into the advanced part and click the drop-down box to change the COM port, COM1 through COM256 shows up. The strange thing is that it says COM1 through COM 15 and COM 23 are in use. I've deleted all the virtual COM ports and the only physical ones I have are ACOM 1, 2, 3, and 23. I put on the special Zombie glasses you let me borrow and only ports 1, 2, 3, and 23 show up in the device manager. So tomorrow I'm going to pull the serial card out, get rid of all the USB devices again and see if FlexControl can be installed then. If that doesn't work, I hope someone might have some idea of what can be deleted in the registry to try to start from scratch. Jim, Thanks for the idea. I'll give it a try tomorrow when I get another day off to play with the radio. Getting this to work just can't be this difficult. But I also overclock my CPU, RAM, and video card, and Flex recommends against that too. If you want to take the chance, go to COntrol Panel, Device Manager, Ports (Com and LPT). Click the FlexControl line. Open the Port Setting tab, and click the Advanced box. At the bottom left of that tab, you'll see the pulldown that allows you to re-assign the Port used by that device. I moved mine from COM 5 (which was a hardware serial port) to COM 7 which was available. Your mileage may vary and I require full immunity. [Flexradio] FlexControl Installation
I recently purchased a FlexControl. I have been using PowerSDR ver 2.4.4 with a Flex 5000A for a few weeks and with previous versions of PowerSDR for a few years. I have Windows 7 Professional 64 bit OS on the computer. I can't seem to get FlexControl to work. Windows sees it as an "Unknown Device" under COM and LPT ports in the device manager. It shows that the driver is version 1.4.0.0 from FlexRadio Systems. When I try to reinstall the driver, Windows tells me that the FlexControl USB knob driver is already installed. I tried re-installing PowerSDR 2.4.4 on top of the existing PowerSDR but I have the same problem. Do I need to uninstall and reinstall PowerSDR to make this work? Thank you and 73. Re: [Flexradio] Looking for help on interface between 5K and SteppIR
Hi Larry, I will be faced with the same problem. Hopefully I'll be getting my DB18E up in the air sometime toward the end of August. I use DDUtil, and plan on using it for the Steppir. I am hoping that I can use a USB to serial converter for the Steppir. I have heard various successful / unsuccessful stories about the converters, so I may finally have to break down and install another physical serial port in my computer. I'll be interested in how you make out with your installation. 73 Chris, KA1GEU -Original Message- From: flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz [mailto:flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz] On Behalf Of Larry Bryan Sent: Thursday, June 07, 2012 9:51 PM To: flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: [Flexradio] Looking for help on interface between 5K and SteppIR control At Dayton I purchased the DB18E SteppIR antenna and the SDA100 control panel. During the purchase I was asked about the interface cable between the 5000A or PSDR and the SDA100. Of course not having any chance to use the new radio I was not equipped to answer that and SteppIR was not sure either. So after the purchase I walked over to the Flex booth and discussed with people there. It was difficult to obtain an answer as there were tons of people all trying to get a look at the new radio or discuss something about their radio. I'm looking for someone to point me in the right direction. I took from the conversation at Dayton that I may only need a serial cable to the computer and DDUtil to accomplish this. I would hope someone on this forum has gone down this path and may be willing to assist this newbe. -- Larry W8LIG ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flexradio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flexradio.com/

I am using my SDR1000's together with my F1.5k and F3K, with or without M44 Delta cards with both Windows7 32 and 64 for years now, and its working great. But must say, it is for a beginners not so easy with a SDR1000 to solve all the problems to set it up, and giving a newcomer a helping hand is a real burden. I can understand Flexradio saying it doesent support s1k anymore on W7 64. One can not just buy a second hand SDR1000 and think to hook it to any new computer, running the newest operating systems, equiped with pseudo soundcards, not real 2 channel audio in/out. Often it helps to use ziped program and datafolders from a already running system and place them accordingly and see how it behaves, and then add a newinstall. This are just suggestions.. Hi A beginning to not rosting PA's would be to have default drive settings on PWRSDR at 0 (Zero), rather then 50, because on any other new Radio, startups always advice: Set the knobs to zero, and that stays then for all bands, modes etc. On PWRSDR newinstall drive level is on all setting, modes at 50, which can easy be dangerous for any added device. Re: [Flexradio] Flex 3K and 5K software shut down QRO
John, I have had almost the same problem and it took almost a year of part-time tinkering to get 90% of it fixed (I still have a few problems but I suspect I need to put up a new antenna to fix those). My shack is on the second floor, which adds problems due to the length of the ground wire. Like others that have replied, I out ferrites on everything - audio, coax, control cables - both end s of every cable that comes in or goes out of the radio / tuner / amp / PC. I put them on the smoke alarms to keep them from going off when I work on 80m. You need to get the correct ferrite mix. Unfortunately I can't put my finger on it at the moment, but you need a mix hat works below 30 MHz. I bought most of mine from Mouser. I installed a "shielded" ground http://www.hamuniverse.com/grounding.html I experimented with changing the length of the feedlines. Just cut a foot at a time off your feed and see what that does. Re: [Flexradio] RX2 / HFRIO board
Very interesting. I had to change my Firewire cable about 6 months ago from my nice, expensive Granite Digital cable (I think that's what it was) to a cheaper cable I had lying around somewhere. At the time, I thought the cable had gone bad. Maybe it was the TSB41AB2 that was flakey. I'll need to try the good cable again. I am in the process of building one of these to shut off the RX2 input port when transmitting: http://www.ad5x.com/images/Articles/SeperateTRant.pdf I've got all the parts and picked up the tools needed to make it. Now I just need to spend an hour and put it together. I plan on leaving the TX port terminated and just use it to shut off the beverage when I transmit. However, it sounds like I need more work on my ground system. I think the first thing is an easy way to disconnect all of the antennas when they're not in use. I don't do this anywhere near as much as I should. Thanks everyone for your input. 73 KA1GEU Chris -Original Message- From: Tim Ellison [mailto:telli...@itsco.com] Sent: Wednesday, March 02, 2011 8:27 AM To: Chris; flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: RE: [Flexradio] RX2 / HFRIO board The TSB41AB2 is your 1394 (Firewire) physical controller IC and is not on the HRFIO board. The PE4259 are RF switches. My first guess would be that your issue is not transmitting 100 watts with a beverage nearby, but it is possible. I would suspect an EMP from a near lightning strike or a power surge from another source. The ICE lightning arrestors are *very* good. The DC drain feature is a big plus. I have them on every antenna I have entering the shack. They are all well bonded to an electrical /RF grounded bulkhead coax connector before they enter the house. Next in line on the coax, I have ununs or common mode RF chokes to shunt RF currents on the coax to ground at the same grounding point. That keeps RFI out of the shack as well as giving me some level of EMP protection too. I live in central NC and we have a lot of bodacious (yep, that is a southern word) lightning storms here. Night before last was one in that category. The house across the street, which is lower in elevation than mine has been hit twice in the past 16 years. I have not had any equipment (PC or radio) damage in that time (knock on wood) and I have a lot of metal in the air much higher in elevation than the neighbor's house. Also, if you are not using a good AC surge protector, and I am not talking about those MOV power strips, for connecting your PC and radio's power supply, you should consider that. In addition to the "whole house" surge protector installed by the power company, I use a Tripp Lite line conditioner to deal with over and under voltage situations (as well as "noise" filtering) along with their surge protectors for additional filtering. I also have a small UPS to maintain constant AC power during the frequent, but short duration (less than 3 seconds) power outages that I experience. This keeps the PC from powering off and wreaking havoc on Windows. In the grand scheme of things, the investment is good insurance. The NC setting for an antenna in PowerSDR, I believe shunts it to ground inside the radio, but I'd have to look at the HRFIO board schematic. I would not rely on this setting for any EMP protection. -Tim -Original Message- From: flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz [mailto:flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz] On Behalf Of Chris Sent: Wednesday, March 02, 2011 7:09 AM To: flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: [Flexradio] RX2 / HFRIO board I have my Flex 5000A back from the VU upgrade (I guess its time to look for VHF/UHF antennas) and my HFRIO board has been fixed. Re: [Flexradio] SDR-1000 cat control to MixW
I use VSP manager now. The interface is easier and the configuration is faster, but I don't see any real difference in operation between VCom, Com0com, and VSP manager. However, thanks to VSP Manager's GUI, I was able to find why a pair of virtual COM ports stopped working. At some point I installed Blackbery Desktop Manager for my Blackberry. It silently "stole" COM ports 5 and 6 for itself. These virtual pairs had to be moved because of this. Re: [Flexradio] Interesting machine possibly as companion to Flex 1500
Very interesting. I am currently playing with a SDR-IQ receiver http://www.rfspace.com/SDR-IQ.html while waiting for delivery of a Flex 1500. The SDR-IQ runs flawlessly for me with WinRad HD software http://freenet-homepage.de/winradhd/WinradHD_release_notes.txt on a tiny HP Mini 1004TU web book (Atom N270 CPU). Both radio and the HP web book will fit in your pocket - well, almost! The SDR-IQ also runs well on an old Celeron desktop with only a USB1.0 port.. Are DDC based SDR's inherently less demanding on the associated PC than QSD based systems like the Flex family? One thing to consider -- no matter how much they shrink the system unit, the keyboard, display, pointing device, and all the damned power bricks still stay the same size. :-) ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flex-radio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/ Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
Re: [Flexradio] FlexRadio Digest, Vol 51, Issue 22
Hi folks For a few weeks time I am enjoying the use of my 3000. As knowing SDR1000 and Flex5000 very well, I do love the 3000 a lot. As my main use are all kind of digital modes. I had no problem hooking up all the programms, via VAC or via the Mike Input with clean no overdriven signals. Then I connected a SCS PTC-II pro Amtor/Pactor controller to the 3000 As I own two of them I am able to make on Air Test with a second station, a Icom 756 pro II connected to the my second PTC controller. My main interest was to see if it is possible to use the Flex3000/SCS PTC II pro for Amtor or Pactor? I can state that it was possible to have perfect Amtor ARQ connection, with a TXD setting of 20ms (TX Delay). It worked both ways as Master or Slave. I used Amtor, because its the most difficult ARQ mode with its 450ms RX/TX window. So after Amtor worked, Pactor was no problem at all. The only thing needed, was to adjust all needed buffersizes for Amtor to 256, that goes for the Audio/Primary setting as well as the DSP RX and TX buffersizes. All of them had to be set low. Pactor will run with the above settings of 512. I see the comments now, stating that the Filtercharcteristic with such a low Buffersize setting is bad, I agree, bud I had some fantastic connection in Pactor III mode to some mail server and felt no handicap. If some one needs any help, give me a call. By the way my SDR1000's, are doing the same good job on Pactor II/III as the Flex3000 but not on Amtor ARQ. 73 Chris HB9BDM ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flex-radio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/ Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

Not only does all inputs work correct when hooking up Digi Modes Programms like Mixw2 or Multispsk taken from a second Soundcard, where with the Audigy 2 card you are loosing that, as this card is not anymore supported by the newer PwrSdr SW Versions. Re: [Flexradio] New test v 1.19.0 SVN 3033
Hi Joe, I'm not sure. If I shut off all the ancillary MS junk I have running (Oh, I forgot to mention Zonealarm's running as well), it works fairly well. If I shut off NR and ANF, it works great - even with all the junk running. Plus I like the broad panadapter display using the 192 KHz sample rate. So I realize that I am pushing it beyond what is recommended, but as long as I don't need NR or ANF on both receivers (and the band isn't too crowded) then it works. Also, after reading Tim's little reminder about the test branch (which I've read many times, but somehow continue to forget about), I realize that I have been running the test branch all along (ever since somebody did something great to the NR), so the released version of PowerSDR might run better on my PC. I need to try that out. I use XP SP2 and, although I read the KB article, I did not go through the optimization. I also have a separate dual-monitor graphics card. I know that there are quite a few things I can do to make this work better, and I'm not complaining about the performance. What I was trying to get at is that this new version - the one that doesn't use the .mdb database - runs much faster then the test version that does have the .mdb database. 73 Chris - KA1GEU -Original Message- Message: 42 Date: Sat, 09 May 2009 11:24:14 -0400 From: Joe - AB1DO Subject: Re: [Flexradio] New test v 1.19.0 SVN 3033 To: flexradio@flex-radio.biz Message-ID: <009401c9d0ba$35f2d150$1a01a...@ab1docomp> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset=iso-8859-1; reply-type=original Hi Chris, I'm a little surprised your CPU% is so high. Of course I had all kinds of other stuff running at the same time (DXLabs suite, DDUtil, MS Outlook, Inet Explorer). When both NRs and ANFs were on, it wouldn't work at all. But with this new version, with all the above stuff running, both NRs and ANFs turned on, the CPU utilization runs between 60% and 80% with occasional peaks to 100%. I realize this is still too high to do any serious operating, but it should be fine once I shut off Outlook and Inet Explorer. What I really need to do is get a faster computer. Now to figure out how to migrate the band text and EQ settings to the new XML format. Very nice work guys! 73 Chris, KA1GEU ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flex-radio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/

Re: [Flexradio] Balanced vs. unbalanced microphone inputs
Hi Dale, I think I started the thread, and since then I have gotten the microphone to work. I use an unbalanced output of the mixer to the line input of the SDR5000A. The cable is a 6' coax that was part of a component video/audio ribbon cable. It works fine. I am told that I still need to tweak the equalizer a little, but reports from the AMers are that it sounds "really good". I switched back over to the Heil HC5 mic that I was using and it was quite obvious that the guys on the other end of the conversation didn't want to hear any more of that than they had to. But the unbalanced audio system, along with the Behringer B1, appears to be working very well. Re: [Flexradio] Balanced vs. unbalanced microphone inputs
Hi Ray. Thanks. I believe that spec would be for a 75 ohm impedance at both ends. Since the impedance of the antenna would change considerably from one frequency to another, that loss spec wouldn't work. Nevertheless, I can't see that 5' of the cable would present much of a loss at any impedance - although I'm not 100% sure. Re: [Flexradio] Balanced vs. unbalanced microphone inputs
I have considered using a couple of short pieces of RG11 to get the balanced line out of the shack. I don't think the additional resistance would be that great, as the length would only be about 5 feet. However, I'm sure there are some pretty high SWR points on the transmission line, so I'm not sure how much loss that 5' would cause. The major RFI problem I am having at the moment is with the Ethernet cable running to the PC in the shack. Unfortunately it is UTP, which runs through the walls from the second floor to the basement and back up to the first floor, where the router is. So it's a long (probably about 75'), unshielded cable. I also get some RFI into the computer speaker system, but I don't generally use them when I'm transmitting so I just turn them off. The speakers connected to the 5000A don't seem to have a problem, even though all the cabling is very close to each other. The reason I think the primary culprit is the balanced line coming into the shack is that when I first installed it, transmitting on 20 meters would cause so much RFI that it would cause the computer to reboot. By moving the transmission lines around, just a little bit (since there isn't very much else I can do with them), I was able to eliminate that problem. The space is very limited and there are a lot of ground wires and the computer itself which are all very close to the transmission lines. I'm sure the close proximity of all these things must be causing a problem. I am in the process of reading K9YC's article. I'm hoping to have it finished today. It is an excellent article. I am hoping the Ethernet problem is a pin 1 problem and can be eliminated with the use of some ferrite cores. Thanks to everybody for the suggestions. Two coaxes makes a 100 ohm line, so you don't get the low loss benefit from balanced openwire line. (8x also has tiny center conductors..) If you ran dual RG-11 sized wire, perhaps.. (RG-213/RG-8 sized wire has a AWG 13 center conductor.. Compare to openwire line with AWG14 or AWG16) Is the problem coupling "out of" a balanced openwire line? .. If you're having interference problems with balanced AUDIO cables, then something else is wrong. Twisted pair, unshielded, should have substantially better interference rejection than any sort of coax lashup, paired or otherwise. Look for a leakage capacitance problem at one end or the other. The audio circuit probably has different parasitic C from each side to ground, and while at audio frequencies this isn't a big deal, at RF, it could be a problem. Have you looked at K9YC's RFI-ham write up? It explains all sorts of stuff about running wires hither and yon, interference, filtering, etc. Pin 1 problems are a big issue, and he addresses how they can creep in. Re: [Flexradio] Balanced vs. unbalanced microphone inputs
Dudley, Thanks. Yes, there is no doubt an "out of balance" situation going on here. The lines are the same length, but they do come very close to the PC (tower) case and are also routed too close to the ground wires in the shack. There's no other way to route them in here. That's why I need to get them outside and run coax in. I am hoping that will solve most of the trouble. Re: [Flexradio] Balanced vs. unbalanced microphone inputs
Hi Carmine, I was wondering about the RFI issue myself. It may be a problem here, as I do have a fair amount of RFI in here. I'm using 450 ohm window line connected to baluns in the shack for the antenna feeds. I plan on moving the baluns outside and running coax in, but I was thinking of waiting until the snow melts. I'll use some ferrites on the audio line. Hopefully they'll do the trick. I have terrible RFI problems on my Ethernet connection - in both directions (that is hash/birdies into the receiver and data errors from the transmitter). I need to get some good ferrites for that connection as well. But its fun trying to figure out how to make all this work well. Re: [Flexradio] Balanced vs. unbalanced microphone inputs
Thanks to all who have helped me out with this question. George, the problem is that (1) the microphone needs 48V phantom power to work and the Flex doesn't provide that and (2) the mixer doesn't have an XLR output (or any balanced output for that matter). I should have checked that before I purchased it. Tim's RCA to RCA connection solution seems the simplest to do, so I'll try that first. I might also try Bill's suggestion of connecting the unbalanced mixer output to the balanced Flex input. That looks like a fun little project that even I could do. It will be interesting to see what the difference in audio quality would be between the two. [Flexradio] Balanced vs. unbalanced microphone inputs
I have a Behringer B1 microphone that I'd like to use with the Flex 5000A. I picked up a Behringer UB802 mixer so I could get the 48V phantom power to the mic. Unfortunately the UB802 only has an unbalanced output (1/4" phone jack - ground on the sleeve and audio on the tip). The output has about a 120 ohm impedance. What would be the best way to connect this mixer to the Flex 5000? Should I use the line-in (RCA) connector on the back? Or should I figure out a way to wire up an adaptor to run into the balanced line input on the back? Thanks. Happy Holidays to all of the happy Flexers out there! I just installed an ATU in my Flex5000A which has the second receiver installed. Does the memory in the ATU know which antenna the measurement was made on? For example, if I set up the tuner to tune 21.130 MHz on Antenna 1, and then I set it up to tune 28.130 MHz on Antenna 2, will it know which setting to tune to the next time I go to 28.130 on Antenna 1 and then know enough to retune from it's memory when I go to 28.130 on Antenna 2? Also, when I press the "ATU" button on PowewrSDR's main screen, does the tuner do a full tune or a memory tune? Does it matter what I set the ATU setup screen to when using the ATU button on the main screen? Sorry for all the questions. I read the manual, but I must've missed this part. I've never had an ATU before. It sure beats cranking the knobs on my manual antenna tuner. Thanks in advance. That means you can't run them both at the same time, correct? I think (although I'm still playing with it) that with the help of DDUtil, you could run both Commander and DM780 at the same time. I guess in MixW's case, I could set up a PTT port pair between PowerSDR and MixW to control MixW and set up the CAT port pair between PowerSDR and Commander to control Commander. I'll give it a try. [Flexradio] Logging program
Hi, I've been reading this reflector for the last couple of years (since I bought my 1W SDR1000) but I don't think I have ever posted anything here. I really haven't had to. The SDR1000 has been working fine (as a receiver) since I plugged it in. I bit the bullet yesterday and bought a 5000A at the hamvention in Boxboro, MA. I guess the house will have to wait another year for it's paint job (that didn't go over too well). I enjoyed meeting the Flex team that was there and the presentation that they did. I also managed to upgrade to a general class license after being a novice for 28 years and a Tech+ for two years. So, although I was pretty active on CW many years ago, I haven't been on the air since then and am trying to figure out what to do about logging programs (back then it was done with a pencil and paper). I've been fooling around with MixW and DM780 and they both have logging functions built in. I keep hearing about N1MM for a logging program. I would like to find one that is good for award tracking and contesting, since I think that is what I will be interested in. I am trying to avoid starting with one program and then having to transfer everything to another one if I find I don't like it. So (I guess it's too late to make a long story short), what do you guys like for logging programs and why? With the PTT line connected via the RCA connecter, the system hang. With the PTT line out, the problem was gone. U suspected a Rf interference via the PTT line, as the inputs on the Flex5000 is a very high impedance darlington device, which could confuse the Flex5000 logic, even Gerald (Flex) added a a few SMD filter beats in that line. I added first external a L-C filter with a L of 10 microH in serie and a C of 10 nF after the L to Ground. That did it, I never had a hanging Problem anymore when hooked up the PTT line. So I suggest, all the guys having the problems, investigate what your hookups you have remove all of them, and try with Tune or VAC to power up the system and see if it still exists. Again here it helped. I wrote this mail as I still see no cure with all the Soft - Firmware correction. 73 Chris HB9BDM ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kb.flex-radio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/

[Flexradio] Strange things with v1.10.4
Hi Sorry, I found the fault mention below. A very bad Mic setting creept into my powersdr.mdb 73 Chris Hi I am running PowerSDR SVN up to the latest version without any problems. Soundcard is Delta M44. I use VAC 4.08 as link between SDR1000 and Mixw. No problem all working as it should. Also use a second installed SB Soundcard to drive the SDR1000 with Mixw via Mic Input, all working great. Same thing with Jeffs latest PowerSdr software. All working ok. After downloading PowerSDR v1.10.4 I made a new Install, creating a new db file. All working ok, SDR - Mixw with VAC ok. Then hooked together SDR1000 - Mixw with my second installed SB Soundcard, via MIC input as mention above. Now am getting NO RF Output. I can see the output signal appearing on the pandisplay, also see the Powermeter showing output on the meter, but cant hear the monitor audiosignal, when MON on X2TR is ok, MOX is ON - but no output !! When I transfer my former Powersdr.mdb into the folder of the new v1.10.4 install, all works as its should. I tried it all way, to bring the new version to work, no luck, it want output any RF. Do I miss something? Re: [Flexradio] FlexRadio Digest, Vol 33, Issue 21
Hello Jeff, Eric Thanks for the hints. After a few years using SDR's one can still learn something. I am very pleased the way recording and playback can be done on the different versions and am making regular use of it. 73 Chris HB9BDM ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kb.flex-radio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/
Re: [Flexradio] FlexRadio Digest, Vol 33, Issue 20
Hi Eddy This startup delay with VAC when using Tune is is been around for a long time. To get out of it, after using TUNE when working with VAC: Switch OFF VAC on PowerSDR and and ON again and the delay is off. Its a built in problem on PowerSDR and has nothing to do with any other stuff. I am able to recall this problem with SVN Version 1426, but any newer SVN versions including K6JCA, the problem seemed to be gone. Am using: Soundcard Delta M44 (With new XP/Vista Driver) SDR1000, (Had the problem also with the Flex5000) VAC 4.08 Chris HB9BDM > > ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kb.flex-radio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/
[Flexradio] New K6JCA console program
Hi Jeff (k6jca) First thanks for the new console program. It works like a charm. I am so pleased with it! I have setup both, your and the new SVN version in different folders, so I can switch between both in a second. I am doing a lot of signal recording, and am so happy with your quick recording. Now some questions, you or someone else can answer. Jeff, on your console program, when playing back the recorded soundtrack, I always have to make a leftmouse click inside the spectrum part in order to place the soundtrack into the filter area. Then I am not able to play back a recorded AM signal. Its sounds distorted, I have to use mode LSB, USB or DSB to hear it proper. Why? A good thing is, I am able to play it back on my installed mediaplayers or even change it to MP3 file. to a much smaller size. Now a second question, does any body know a free mediaplayer to play back the wav files created with the SVN PowerSDR console prorgram. So far I am only able to play it back on the console itself. Am also not able to reformat it to a MP3 file. Am I missing something? 73 Chrs HB9BDM > > ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kb.flex-radio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/
