Hi Evert, this reflector is pretty quiet. Most of the flex activity occurs on
the flex community website

Hello,

I'm new to the list but I didn't see any postings in the last 24 hours.

Am I at a dead end here?

I'm considering buying a flex 6700 and step up to the next generation of
radio's.

I'm a satisfied Elecraft user (K2/K3's) but ready for something new.

Let's see what this reflector brings up.

functionality is not on any radar scope I have. so using the suggestions below
are your options for the time being.

Hi Mardy.

Not at this time, this is planned future functionality.

You could put a video camera aimed at it.. (not the best option) or use SSDR
on the computer (the better option) to project the radio functions on the
overhead. if you need to break out the log onto a different screen you could
use a second monitor.

I would like to use this setup in my amateur radio basic class.
Is there a way that I could project the panfall display being viewed on the

Hello,
I am having problems getting the app to work properly.
Panadapter and sound continue to work properly but when I open a control
window and scroll it up or down, the program freezes. No functions work.  I
have a fourth generation ipad with 64GB memory. When tuning I click on the step
tab, again the program freezes.  I use the tuning wheel and it works for a
second then the program freezes. As I mentioned, the panadapter and sound
continue to work. I tried a completely different router running by itself (not
on the internet or any other computers) and it did the same thing.  No other
applications that I know of are running.

I have the latest OS installed.  Maybe a problem with that??  Any help would be
appreciated.

Re: [Flexradio] FlexControl won't start

Jack this is more than likely a conflict in com ports. Open your windows
device manager, find the flex control com port and assign it a com port way out
of range of the others.. like com 60 or something like that. Then give it a
try and see if it gets consistent.

Re: [Flexradio] Smart SDR static IP

2016-02-26 Thread Chris Tate - N6WM
Mark quite honestly I wouldn't say your use case is very common. Direct IP is
probably(definitely) a ways out at this time, and using a Ham radio in a
commercial multi subnet environment make is even less common. Depending on
your IT policies your workaround is probably limited to a vpn connection
between subnets, and one that supports broadcast traffic over vpn.

Flex Radio's "LAN" remote capability was proven to mostly work fine over WAN
with VPN, even though they don't officially support it. I had it running within
30 minutes of the functionality release.

So what is your solution? perhaps a soft ether vpn. Check the flex community
and you will find plenty of information on this. VPN into the other subnet and
allow broadcast traffic.

The 6000 is a work in progress, and there are many things being worked on and
developed. there are 3rd party apps, and new peripherals nearing release now
that will need similar re-architecture to make this work..

Were I you I would start looking into a creative solution that you can come up
with for your environment, to use the product now... IP based connectivity
will require a significant architectural shift and will take those guys
significant time to implement.

Just my 2 cents, your mileage may vary.

Speaking of which, I'm somewhat baffled that SmartSDR (1.6.21) does not
seem to have a way I can connect by entering the (already known) IP address
of the 6700 -- assigned by DHCP with a "fixed" IP.

If I'm missing something, please someone tell me. Maybe there is some
.INI file setting or unpublished command option?

Broadcast discovery only works if you are in the same subnet of the same LAN.
It's the easy way to make things work for a typical home user, but without a
way to override by specifying the radio's IP, this broadcast-only mechanism
cripples my ability to use the Flex, and I'd think would be a limiting
factor for many others too.

For more advanced users, like in a commercial or multi-subnet LAN setup,
even with fast local unfiltered connectivity between SmartSDR and the radio,
SmartSDR cannot discover the radio if they aren't on the same subnet.

For examble, Windows under VMWare Fusion on a Mac cannot make a local-subnet
broadcast via WiFi, because there is a separate internal virtual network
involved since the virtual machine cannot directly share the same IP on
the wireless network adapter. I cannot use SmartSDR on my WiFi connected
laptop--I have to run a wire out the window to the patio to plug in my
laptop so my VMware Windows IP is on the same subnet as the 6700.

I cannot reach the Flex-6700 from a PC in the other building, because they
aren't in the same broadcast domain, even though there is no port filtering
in between.

Why can't I just type the 6700's IP address into SmartSDR somewhere??? This
is so frustrating!

Mark

Re: [Flexradio] FlexControl installation problems

2013-01-19 Thread Chris
Hi Jim,

Thanks. You pointed me to the Zombie port problem a few months ago when I
first started trying to get this FlexControl installed, so I've been through
that more than a few times. I think you told me about assigning the COM
ports back then as well. I was pretty sure I tried it, but tried it again
today just for the heck of it. It didn't help. But what was strange is
when I pushed the button to change the Comport, a bunch of ports showed "In
use" even though I have deleted all the hidden Zombie ports, and have
removed all of the serial and USB-to-serial devices and ports from the
computer. However, even choosing a port that wasn't claimed to be in use
would not allow me to install the FlexControl.

Chris,
I fixed a similar problem by 'forcing' the Flexcontrol to a specific COM
port. It always tried to install itself on a COM port that was occupied by
four-port PCIe card.
To force the Knob to use a specific port, go to Control Panel, Devices and
Printers, and look for the FlexConktrol or an Unspecified COM device. (Yoiu
can also get there through CP/ Device Manager) Click the Hardware tab, then
Properties, then Port Settings tab, then Advanced box. COM port number is
at the bottom left. Assign a port that you know is not in use.
Or, if you have played arouind with COM ports before, youi may have the
dreaded Zombie Ports. These are former COM ports that did not uninstall
correctly. They're hidden, and can't be killed by normal weapons. To score
the necesasary headshot on these, do this:

Start
Run
Type cmd.exe in the textbox and click OK
Type set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 and hit ENTER
Type cd\windows\system32 and hit ENTER
Type start devmgmt.msc and hit ENTER
rem: When the device manager opens, click the View menu
Click Show Hidden Devices
Click on the + sign next to the Ports to see the full list of Com
ports being used.
Highlight the port you wish to delete and then press delete.
Accept when asked to do so and continue with any more that you wish
to delete.

[Flexradio] FlexControl installation problems

2013-01-19 Thread Chris
Hi,

So I've been having an on-going problem trying to install a FlexControl in
Windows 7 64 bit. I have tired two Flex Controls with the same results. I
have talked with Flex about the problem as well.
So far, I have removed a PCI-to-serial card from the computer thinking that
may be causing a problem.
I have shut off the on-board COM port in the BIOS I have disconnected all
USB devices I have uninstalled VSPMgr and confirmed there are no zombie
ports remaining

Whenever I plug the FlexControl in, it looks for the driver and fails to
install it. FlexControl shows up as either an unknown device under "Other
Devices" or an unknown device under "Ports (COM & LPT)". I go into Device
Manager, update the driver using the Flex Control directory under PowerSDR
V2.5.3 and a window pops up saying the device already has the most current
driver. I tried updating the device by picking FlexRadio from a list of
device drivers. Two FlexControl USB Control Knobs are listed. One of them
says that it has an Authenticode signature and the other one says the driver
is not digitally signed. I tried using both of them and each time a window
comes up saying "A service installation section in this INF is invalid".

I looked in the flecontrol.inf file and found a line in there that says
"ServiceBinary=%12%\usbser.sys". I'm not sure what the %12% variable refers
to. I found usbser.sys in the following directories:

C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\mdmcpq.inf_amd64_neutral_fbc4
a14a6a13d0c8
C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_mdmcpq.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17514_none_d13a
a360cb6ad78e
C:\Windows.old\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\mdmcpq.inf_amd64_
neutral_774523d133de6343
C:\Windows.old\Windows\winsxs\amd64_mdmcpq.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.163
85_none_cf098f98ce7c53f4
C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_mdmcpq.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_cf09
8f98ce7c53f4

Would the %12% point to any of those?

I'd really like to get this thing working. Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.
Thank you.

Re: [Flexradio] RFI on 10 meter

2012-10-25 Thread Chris Maukonen

Ulf,

I am not currently a Flex user. Was in the past but this is kind of a
general - non-flex issue.

I am assuming from what you said that your shack is in the barn.

If this is the case remember that the counterpoise - the metal roof on
the barn - is the other half of a 1/2 wave dipole.
Being such it will be hot with RF while transmitting. So you are
essentially sitting right underneath an RF source.

Not good.

All I can suggest is better shielded mike cable and ferrite chokes on
the mike cable and probably all other cables as well.

You will need to describe more of your setup. Antennas, grounds, type of mics,
etc.

If you have a ground on the radio, try removing it and see if it clears up.

RFI issues require a lot of trial and error testing. It is not a fault of the
radio unfortunately.

Re: [Flexradio] FlexControl Installation

2012-10-19 Thread Chris
Today I physically removed the serial port card and USB devices except the
USB mouse. The problem persists. The only devices listed under COM and LPT
ports in the device manager is a PCI Parallel port (LPT3). I tried
uninstalling and reinstalling the driver with and without the FlexControl
attached using the batch files in the PowerSDR 2.4.4\FlexControl 64 folder.

I searched the registry looking for a COM port listing (I searched for
COM16) and found it listed under the following keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Ports

Re: [Flexradio] FlexControl Installation

2012-10-18 Thread Chris
Jim,

I gave your suggestion a try. It's really strange because when I go into
the advanced part and click the drop-down box to change the COM port, COM1
through COM256 shows up. The strange thing is that it says COM1 through COM
15 and COM 23 are in use. I've deleted all the virtual COM ports and the
only physical ones I have are ACOM 1, 2, 3, and 23. I put on the special
Zombie glasses you let me borrow and only ports 1, 2, 3, and 23 show up in
the device manager.

So tomorrow I'm going to pull the serial card out, get rid of all the USB
devices again and see if FlexControl can be installed then. If that doesn't
work, I hope someone might have some idea of what can be deleted in the
registry to try to start from scratch.

Thanks for all of your help.

Chris,
Here's a hint that I tell only my closest friends: You can re-assign a COM
port in the Windows driver box. I had to do that with my FlexControl to
work around four add-on serial ports that it kept trying to use. I bet that
Flex doesn't like this, and officially rtecommends against it. But I also
overclock my CPU, RAM, and video card, and Flex recommends against that too.

If you want to take the chance, go to COntrol Panel, Device Manager, Ports
(Com and LPT). Click the FlexControl line. Open the Port Setting tab, and
click the Advanced box. At the bottom left of that tab, you'll see the
pulldown that allows you to re-assign the Port used by that device. I moved
mine from COM 5 (which was a hardware serial port) to COM 7 which was
available. Your mileage may vary and I require full immunity.

Thanks for letting me borrow your special Zombie Port Glasses. They

Mike and Mike,

I tried it but no go. So I uninstalled PowerSDR, uninstalled VSP Manager

So PowerSDR 2.4.4 is running. I plugged in the FlexControl, Windows said it
was installing the drivers, but then an error came up saying the drivers
were not installed. I disconnected the FlexControl and ran the
FlexControlInstall.bat as an administrator. The following came up:

I plugged the FlexControl back in, and Windows attempted to load the
drivers, but the same error came up. So I tried running
FlexControlInstall.bat with the FlexControl plugged in. I got the same
messages as posted above.

I'm at a loss. I do have four physical com ports on the computer (COM 1, 2,
3, and 23). I wonder if they're somehow causing problems.

[Flexradio] FlexControl Installation

2012-10-15 Thread Chris
I recently purchased a FlexControl. I have been using PowerSDR ver 2.4.4
with a Flex 5000A for a few weeks and with previous versions of PowerSDR for
a few years. I have Windows 7 Professional 64 bit OS on the computer.

I can't seem to get FlexControl to work. Windows sees it as an "Unknown
Device" under COM and LPT ports in the device manager. It shows that the
driver is version 1.4.0.0 from FlexRadio Systems. When I try to reinstall
the driver, Windows tells me that the FlexControl USB knob driver is already
installed.

I tried re-installing PowerSDR 2.4.4 on top of the existing PowerSDR but I
have the same problem. Do I need to uninstall and reinstall PowerSDR to make
this work?

Thank you and 73.

Re: [Flexradio] Looking for help on interface between 5K and SteppIR

Hi Larry,

I will be faced with the same problem. Hopefully I'll be getting my DB18E
up in the air sometime toward the end of August. I use DDUtil, and plan on
using it for the Steppir. I am hoping that I can use a USB to serial
converter for the Steppir. I have heard various successful / unsuccessful
stories about the converters, so I may finally have to break down and
install another physical serial port in my computer.

I'll be interested in how you make out with your installation.

At Dayton I purchased the DB18E SteppIR antenna and the SDA100 control
panel. During the purchase I was asked about the interface cable between the
5000A or PSDR and the SDA100. Of course not having any chance to use the new
radio I was not equipped to answer that and SteppIR was not sure either. So
after the purchase I walked over to the Flex booth and discussed with people
there. It was difficult to obtain an answer as there were tons of people all
trying to get a look at the new radio or discuss something about their
radio.

I'm looking for someone to point me in the right direction. I took from the
conversation at Dayton that I may only need a serial cable to the computer
and DDUtil to accomplish this. I would hope someone on this forum has gone
down this path and may be willing to assist this newbe.

I still use the Flex 5K. It's such an excellent radio, how can you ignore
it? But I agree with you about the fan. I wouldn't have added the VU kit
if I had known about the fan noise. One of the great things about the F5K
was how quiet it was before the VU upgrade. All of the other great things
are still there, but the quiet nature of the radio has disappeared.

But must say, it is for a beginners not so easy with a SDR1000 to solve
all the problems to set it up, and giving a newcomer a helping hand is a
real burden. I can understand Flexradio saying it doesent support s1k
anymore on W7 64.
One can not just buy a second hand SDR1000 and think to hook it to any
new computer, running the newest operating systems, equiped with pseudo
soundcards, not real 2 channel audio in/out.
Often it helps to use ziped program and datafolders from a already
running system and place them accordingly and see how it behaves, and
then add a newinstall. This are just suggestions..

Hi

A beginning to not rosting PA's would be to have default drive settings
on PWRSDR at 0 (Zero),
rather then 50, because on any other new Radio, startups always advice:
Set the knobs to zero, and that stays

then for all bands, modes etc.
On PWRSDR newinstall drive level is on all setting, modes at 50, which
can easy be dangerous

for any added device.
How easy could it be for a programmer to choose 0, instaed of 50

i use the FLEX-1500 with a SG-231 Automatic Tuner and a arround 18 m
longwire antenna.
I can tune on all bands the wire to a good SWR and the output shown is 5
Watt a bit +-.
On 15m i get only 2 Watt out and the SWR is between 1:3 and 1:4 depending
on frequency of the 15m band.

---

i have recently noticed that after i tune on 15m with my Tokyo HyPower AT200
antenna tuner, during the QSO the SWR meter swings erratically and goes higher
than 6:1 even tho the Buddipole antenna is tuned for 15m. Other bands seem ok.

I found a simple trick: Always, switch of the Flex-Rigs first before

Also switch on the PC first and then the Radios.
That helped me. But to check once in a while the soundcard settings

I have had the same intermittent problem for quite a few months. It seems
to happen more often when changing frequencies, but sometimes it happens
when going from transmit to receive. It also has happened in the middle of
a transmission. The guy on the other end reported losing my signal in the
middle of a sentence. When I un-keyed the mic, the receiver was "out of
whack" per your description above. I keep hoping to see a fix for this when
new Power SDRs are released, but nothing so far. I'm wondering if it has
something to with RF in the shack, although that wouldn't explain why the
radio goes haywire when changing frequencies on receive.

John,

I have had almost the same problem and it took almost a year of part-time
tinkering to get 90% of it fixed (I still have a few problems but I suspect
I need to put up a new antenna to fix those). My shack is on the second
floor, which adds problems due to the length of the ground wire.

Like others that have replied, I out ferrites on everything - audio, coax,
control cables - both end s of every cable that comes in or goes out of the
radio / tuner / amp / PC. I put them on the smoke alarms to keep them from
going off when I work on 80m. You need to get the correct ferrite mix.
Unfortunately I can't put my finger on it at the moment, but you need a mix
hat works below 30 MHz. I bought most of mine from Mouser.

I installed a "shielded" ground http://www.hamuniverse.com/grounding.html

I experimented with changing the length of the feedlines. Just cut a foot
at a time off your feed and see what that does.

Good luck.

Re: [Flexradio] RX2 / HFRIO board

2011-03-03 Thread Chris
Very interesting. I had to change my Firewire cable about 6 months ago from
my nice, expensive Granite Digital cable (I think that's what it was) to a
cheaper cable I had lying around somewhere. At the time, I thought the
cable had gone bad. Maybe it was the TSB41AB2 that was flakey. I'll need
to try the good cable again.

I am in the process of building one of these to shut off the RX2 input port
when transmitting:

http://www.ad5x.com/images/Articles/SeperateTRant.pdf

I've got all the parts and picked up the tools needed to make it. Now I
just need to spend an hour and put it together. I plan on leaving the TX
port terminated and just use it to shut off the beverage when I transmit.

However, it sounds like I need more work on my ground system. I think the
first thing is an easy way to disconnect all of the antennas when they're
not in use. I don't do this anywhere near as much as I should.

Thanks everyone for your input.

Subject: RE: [Flexradio] RX2 / HFRIO board

The TSB41AB2 is your 1394 (Firewire) physical controller IC and is not on
the HRFIO board. The PE4259 are RF switches.

My first guess would be that your issue is not transmitting 100 watts with a
beverage nearby, but it is possible. I would suspect an EMP from a near
lightning strike or a power surge from another source.

The ICE lightning arrestors are *very* good. The DC drain feature is a big
plus. I have them on every antenna I have entering the shack. They are all
well bonded to an electrical /RF grounded bulkhead coax connector before
they enter the house. Next in line on the coax, I have ununs or common
mode RF chokes to shunt RF currents on the coax to ground at the same
grounding point. That keeps RFI out of the shack as well as giving me some
level of EMP protection too.

I live in central NC and we have a lot of bodacious (yep, that is a southern
word) lightning storms here. Night before last was one in that category.
The house across the street, which is lower in elevation than mine has been
hit twice in the past 16 years. I have not had any equipment (PC or radio)
damage in that time (knock on wood) and I have a lot of metal in the air
much higher in elevation than the neighbor's house.

Also, if you are not using a good AC surge protector, and I am not talking
about those MOV power strips, for connecting your PC and radio's power
supply, you should consider that. In addition to the "whole house" surge
protector installed by the power company, I use a Tripp Lite line
conditioner to deal with over and under voltage situations (as well as
"noise" filtering) along with their surge protectors for additional
filtering. I also have a small UPS to maintain constant AC power during
the frequent, but short duration (less than 3 seconds) power outages that I
experience. This keeps the PC from powering off and wreaking havoc on
Windows. In the grand scheme of things, the investment is good insurance.

The NC setting for an antenna in PowerSDR, I believe shunts it to ground
inside the radio, but I'd have to look at the HRFIO board schematic. I
would not rely on this setting for any EMP protection.

The RFIO board problem has me a little concerned. This is the second time

I understand that muting RX2 when you transmit doesn't disconnect the RX2
antenna in the radio. Maybe that's the problem. I routinely listen on a

below the dipole. When the board went south I was generally running 100W of

have purchased some ICE arrestors and will have them installed before the
spring thunderstorms come along.

So, I have two questions for you experts out there.
1. Do you think the board fried because of too much of my power getting

Thanks for the list. It narrows down the possibilities substantially. I

video is tough on the eyes.

They measure screens diagonally so I would expect you could use a 24"

Its almost impossible to buy a bad monitor right now, and prices are quite
low.

Brands I really like include:
Hanns G (available at Best Buys)
ASUS
Acer
Dell (their monitors are the best thing they sell)
LG

You want the fastest one you can find but the refresh isn't as critical as
it was in the days of CRTs.

You might even look for a 24" HD TV, especially if it does 1080P. I use a
42" TV as the monitor on my development computer!

2011-01-06 Thread Chris Gerber

Hi

I have solved Plasma TV noise almost to zero, by using a
MFJ Noise Canceler. Using a Alu window frame as second antenna
as pickup to phase the noise out.
Believe it or not, it works best, and wasent even to expencive.
If you have a Flex5000 you could use the second RX, I cant,
am not rich enough to affort one, have to stick to my 3000, 1500

Re: [Flexradio] I need advice about hooking up an amp

2010-09-13 Thread Chris seeber
I just picked up a Dentron Clipperton L amp. This is the first amp I've
ever used and when I saw this post on the reflector, I became a little
concerned. Why shouldn't you connect the L4B directly to the 5K? Would
I have to worry about the Clipperton L? The amp doesn't have a tuned
input and I've been experimenting with the 5K's ATU to try to get a
match to the amp. It seems to work on some bands and not on others.
I've only had the amp a couple of days so there's a lot of experimenting
left to do.

Thanks.

Bill,

Do not connect the L4B directly to the 5K, but with the ARB704 buffer
should work just fine for the L4B.. It's a good ideal to use a buffer
relay if nothing else to help isolate the radio from any RF coming back
from
the amp.

[Flexradio] Linear Amplfier for F1.5K

2010-08-28 Thread Chris Gerber

Hi

You guys at the US are searching to far away.
I have built and added to the Flex1500, the AN-762-D, 140W amplifier
with their 6 lowpass filters,
from Communication Concepts Inc. at Dayton. Mounted everything on a good
cooling system and can easy run

100W full power of any length of time.
Total costs around 200 US$. I am very statisfied with it.
So how about building something yourself, like in old days.
The drivelevel from the F1.5k is just fine.

[Flexradio] FLEX 1500 - wow!

2010-07-22 Thread Chris Muir

Just received my Flex 1500 and had it up and running within 30 minutes.

The real excitement was that my very first QSO was with Rick, VE6CQ in
Calgary over a path of around 7539 miles! Five watts and a simple 40
foot vertical wire hanging from a tree!

What a buzz! Congratulations to all at Flex on a great little rig.

[Flexradio] PowerSDR Ver 2 How to uninstall?

2010-07-15 Thread Chris Muir

Hi All,

While waiting for my Flex 1500 to arrive I have been using PowerSDR Ver
2.0.3 and then 2.0.5 in demo mode on my quad core PC running Windows 7
64 bit.

All went well until I decided to uninstall Ver 2.03. Then Ver 2.05
stopped working. So I uninstalled Ver 2.05 also and started again.

Now I get fatal errors when starting up Ver 2.05. So I guess using the
usual Win 7 program uninstall utility may be where I went wrong?

I did try the Knowledge centre but could not find anything there
specific to the new Ver 2 software.

[Flexradio] PWRSDR 1.18.6

2010-06-09 Thread Chris Gerber
I know this may be out of topics, but maybe one of the SW gurus at this
refelctor can give me a hint.

I am the happy owner of a Flex3000 and awaiting my Flex1500.
But still use a few SDR1000 on my system together with a Delta M44
Soundcard, LPT2 control
For some time I observe after running the the s1k for maybe 30min, a
change in the soundcard behaving.
When sliding the VFO around with my mouse, or change the VFO frequency
at 500Hz steps with my mouse
wheel up or down, the signal level on the panadapter display starts
jumping and raises up to -70dbm and a poping noise occurs.
Also when changing frequncy slow in 500hz steps, I can see over the full
pandisplay spikes occuring, which

disappear after changing the frequncy 500Hz up or down.
I am using Flex SDR's for 5 to 6 year now and havent seen anything like
this.
It seems it started with the installatiuon of WIN7 Pro 32Bits on my
SuperMico board dual core intel 8200.

Any installed PWRSDR SW is showing the same problem.
The Flex3000 runs without any problem.
The funny thing is, the problem comes and goes, and so far was not able
to trace the cause.

[Flexradio] Probable SDR-1000 surgery

2010-06-06 Thread Chris Day

My SDR-1000 is leaking a lot of carrier on transmit. The SDR-1000
Troubleshooting Guide suggests I'm looking at replacing the QSE chip, an
FST3253. Unfortunately, this seem to be available only in units of 2500. Mouser
suggests an FST3257 instead. Anyone familiar with this part? Will it work in
this application? Thanks.

Re: [Flexradio] FlexRadio Digest, Vol 58, Issue 1

2010-02-01 Thread Chris Gerber

Hi Anthony

I am using a very similair setup here.
PC: Intel dual core 3.2 Mhz, 4 Mb ram
Windows XP SP2 32bit
Running on a US made motherboard : Supermicro C2SBX
Norton Internet Security 2010 installed and running.
Flex3000 or SDR1000
FW Driver: 3.5.0.7171
Firmware: 2.0.0.4
SVN Version: 3512
Programms in use: Mixw2, Multipsk, Fldigi and others, all connectet with
VAC

My greatest CPU usage is around 10% with any of the above Digi programms
I have installed at the same PC System three souncards for other use in
parallel.

A, Delta M44, Audigy 2 and the on board Realtek Audio Sytem
This for Skype, or even running my SDR1000 at the same time as the Flex3000
which is great as I can have four receiving signals at the same time,
with two different

antennas hooked up.
I think gerat advantage is the well designed motherboard.
On my other systems I have encounterd problems you mention.

Hi,

I have a Flex 5000A. Receiver 1 suddenly stopped working. I was using
the radio in the NAQP. At one point I looked up and RX1 wasn't picking
up anything (although I was still working people - apparently hearing
them on RX2). The noise floor shows up on the Panadapter, but it's as
if it was plugged into a dummy load. It doesn't matter which antenna
selection I use. RX2 works fine, but RX2 won't work either if I choose
the RX1 tap option in the antenna selection window. The transmitter
seems to be working fine on the ANT 1 port.

I have tried resetting the database. I also deleted both database.xml
and Wisdom and let PowerSDR rebuild them, but the problem doesn't
correct itself. All of the RX1 calibrations (using P) pass
the tests.

I have tried this using both of these configurations with the same
results:

Firewire driver 3.5.0.7171
Firmware 1.3.08
PowerSDR 1.18.3

Firewire driver 3.5.0.7171
Firmware 2.0.0.3
PowerSDR 1.19.3 SVN 3477

I was using the PowerSDR 1.18.3 configuration when the problem occurred.
Any ideas?

Thank you.

Re: [Flexradio] SDR-1000 cat control to MixW

2009-12-10 Thread Chris seeber
I use VSP manager now. The interface is easier and the configuration is
faster, but I don't see any real difference in operation between VCom,
Com0com, and VSP manager. However, thanks to VSP Manager's GUI, I was
able to find why a pair of virtual COM ports stopped working. At some
point I installed Blackbery Desktop Manager for my Blackberry. It
silently "stole" COM ports 5 and 6 for itself. These virtual pairs had
to be moved because of this.

This is why you should start using VSP Manager. You can't inadvertently
use a physical com port when defining your port pairs.

This might be obvious, but does your new computer have physical COM

[Flexradio] SDR-1000 w/ Ameritron AL-811h Tunning Help

2009-11-12 Thread Chris Thompson
Hello to All,

Just recently purchased an Ameritron AL-811h amplifier and im new to this
amplifier and im having dificulty tunning it with my flex SDR-1000.  Im using a
heil fs2 footswitch
with my pr781 mic to key the amplifier.  Anyone that has this amplifier and
flex combo i could surely use the help in learning how to tune this all up
correctly either via email or landline would be
awesome.

Thanks

[Flexradio] Power SDR / DDUtil / N1MM

2009-10-10 Thread Chris seeber
Flex5000A
PowerSDR 1.18.3
DDUtil 1.7.6.14
Fldigi 3.12.3

I have been using DDUtil with DX Labs Suite and Fldigi with very few
problems for a long time. I decided to set up N1MM for the upcoming
contest season. It took a few hours to figure it out, but I finally got
it running...sort of.

I find that I need to check and then un-check the "IF only" checkbox in
DDUtil for RCP2 (the one I am using for N1MM) to get N1MM to track the
frequency. It then works for a while, but it seems when I change bands,
I need to repeat the process. Changing the band mode (USB/LSB, etc)
seems to work fine all the time.

I haven't tried keying the radio from N1MM yet.

Does anybody have any ideas about what would be causing this?

Thanks.

Re: [Flexradio] Interesting machine possibly as companion to Flex 1500

2009-09-20 Thread Chris Muir

Very interesting.

I am currently playing with a SDR-IQ receiver
http://www.rfspace.com/SDR-IQ.html while waiting for delivery of a Flex
1500.

The SDR-IQ runs flawlessly for me with WinRad HD software
http://freenet-homepage.de/winradhd/WinradHD_release_notes.txt on a tiny
HP Mini 1004TU web book (Atom N270 CPU). Both radio and the HP web book
will fit in your pocket - well, almost! The SDR-IQ also runs well on an
old Celeron desktop with only a USB1.0 port..

Are DDC based SDR's inherently less demanding on the associated PC than
QSD based systems like the Flex family?

It does look like it might be a nice combination with the f1.5k for
base operation. For portable operation a laptop still looks like the
way to go. Maybe the thing to be looking at is a netbook. After all,
you are going to need a display and a keyboard. Having them all in one
package is going to be a LOT more convenient than having to schlep
around a separate system unit, display, keyboard, and pointing device,
and all the cables to tie them together, no matter how small they are.

One thing to consider -- no matter how much they shrink the system
unit, the keyboard, display, pointing device, and all the damned power
bricks still stay the same size. :-)

Re: [Flexradio] FlexRadio Digest, Vol 51, Issue 22

2009-07-22 Thread Chris Gerber

Hi folks

For a few weeks time I am enjoying the use of my 3000.
As knowing SDR1000 and Flex5000 very well, I do love the 3000 a lot.
As my main use are all kind of digital modes. I had no problem hooking up
all the programms, via VAC or via the Mike Input with clean no
overdriven signals.

Then I connected a SCS PTC-II pro Amtor/Pactor controller to the 3000
As I own two of them I am able to make on Air Test with a second station,
a Icom 756 pro II connected to the my second PTC controller.
My main interest was to see if it is possible to use the Flex3000/SCS
PTC II pro

for Amtor or Pactor?
I can state that it was possible to have perfect Amtor ARQ connection,
with a

TXD setting of 20ms (TX Delay). It worked both ways as Master or Slave.
I used Amtor, because its the most difficult ARQ mode with its 450ms
RX/TX window. So after Amtor worked, Pactor was no problem at all.
The only thing needed, was to adjust all needed buffersizes for Amtor
to 256, that goes for the Audio/Primary setting as well as the DSP RX
and TX

buffersizes. All of them had to be set low.
Pactor will run with the above settings of 512.
I see the comments now, stating that the Filtercharcteristic with such a low
Buffersize setting is bad, I agree, bud I had some fantastic connection
in Pactor III mode

to some mail server and felt no handicap.
If some one needs any help, give me a call.
By the way my SDR1000's, are doing the same good job on Pactor II/III as
the Flex3000

but not on Amtor ARQ.

[Flexradio] FlexRadio Digest, Vol 51, Issue 12

2009-07-12 Thread Chris Gerber

Hi Flexteam

As a very proud owner of a several Flex Radios I would like to add something
onto the wishlist.
Eric, would it be possible to add at PowerSDR a kind of a switch/button
or setting key
to limit the outgoing Output Power, it could be a low at 5 or 10 Watt
and a full rating.

Many new conventional transcivers are featureing such a setting.
As I am missing a good ALC cirquit I would like to have it on the 3000
or 5000 to prevent
fireing up my external antenna-tuner if any wrong startup drive setting
is overlooked.

a problem of using wrong DIGL, DIGU offset settings.
Therefore I am using mostly only USB amd made my own

Hi Rod, Eric

I have both cards, the Delta M44 and the Audigy 2 in use here,
The delta M44 is by far the much better card, in all respect for the
SDR1000.

Not only does all inputs work correct when hooking up Digi Modes Programms
like Mixw2 or Multispsk taken from a second Soundcard, where with the
Audigy 2 card
you are loosing that, as this card is not anymore supported by the newer
PwrSdr SW

Versions.

[Flexradio] Flex-3000 voltage requirements

That's interesting. Do you know if the 5000A has the same

As long as I'm asking the questions, I was going to pick up one of those

All Flex-3000 users:
The dropout voltage of the 5V regulator is 2.5V, all the lower voltage
regulators are LDO types.
I have completed a few simple low voltage tests, the production
calibration
tests all pass at ~11.4V.
The preamp is the only non-regulated voltage active component in the
receive
path and has .3 dB less gain at this reduced voltage.
Tested the transmitter on 20mtr USB with a recorded wavefile: Info panel

reads ~10.7 V, Powermaster wattmeter: 83W (Tune @100 drive level) and
listened on a F5K audio sounded same as full voltage of 13.8V.

The Flex-3000 was used mobile traveling from Austin, Tx to the Dayton,
Oh
Convention, and return trip operating as K5FRS, with no technical
problems,
although band conditions were not the best.

Zack,

I used the same setup as you. I couldn't get the PTT on the microphone
to work. The problem was that I had the Heil adaptor cable plugged into
the 5000 incorrectly. There was no key on the connector, so it would
plug in in any direction. Once I got the pins lined up correctly it
worked fine. I don't know if it's my radio or not, since I haven't
heard of anyone else having this problem, but you might check that out.

Good luck.

Re: [Flexradio] New test v 1.19.0 SVN 3033

2009-05-09 Thread Chris seeber
Hi Joe,

I'm not sure. If I shut off all the ancillary MS junk I have running
(Oh, I forgot to mention Zonealarm's running as well), it works fairly
well. If I shut off NR and ANF, it works great - even with all the junk
running. Plus I like the broad panadapter display using the 192 KHz
sample rate. So I realize that I am pushing it beyond what is
recommended, but as long as I don't need NR or ANF on both receivers
(and the band isn't too crowded) then it works.

Also, after reading Tim's little reminder about the test branch (which
I've read many times, but somehow continue to forget about), I realize
that I have been running the test branch all along (ever since somebody
did something great to the NR), so the released version of PowerSDR
might run better on my PC. I need to try that out.

I use XP SP2 and, although I read the KB article, I did not go through
the optimization. I also have a separate dual-monitor graphics card.

I know that there are quite a few things I can do to make this work
better, and I'm not complaining about the performance. What I was
trying to get at is that this new version - the one that doesn't use the
.mdb database - runs much faster then the test version that does have
the .mdb database.

Hi Chris,

I'm a little surprised your CPU% is so high. I run my FLEX-5000A on a
Dell
Dimension 4700 - P4, 3GHz, 1GB RAM and with both receivers working the
CPU%
rarely tops 25%. I do have hyper threading and I know the CPU speed is a

little higher than yours, but still. I can easily run the full DX Labs
suite
and have email running at the same time without a hitch.

I'm assuming you too have Windows XP? I have XP Home SP2 and I will say
that
a while ago I spent some time optimizing XP (if I'm not mistaken there
is a
Knowledge Base article on how to optimize XP), and I do have a separate
graphics card, so perhaps that accounts for the big difference?

[Flexradio] New test v 1.19.0 SVN 3033

2009-05-09 Thread Chris seeber
I just set this up today. What a difference in CPU usage! With my poor
old 2.6GHz P4 with 1 GB of RAM, I couldn't run the NR on both RX1 and
RX2 without running up to 100% utilization and a next -to - impossible
to use rig. Of course I had all kinds of other stuff running at the
same time (DXLabs suite, DDUtil, MS Outlook, Inet Explorer). When both
NRs and ANFs were on, it wouldn't work at all.

But with this new version, with all the above stuff running, both NRs
and ANFs turned on, the CPU utilization runs between 60% and 80% with
occasional peaks to 100%. I realize this is still too high to do any
serious operating, but it should be fine once I shut off Outlook and
Inet Explorer. What I really need to do is get a faster computer.

Now to figure out how to migrate the band text and EQ settings to the
new XML format.

Very nice work guys!

Re: [Flexradio] Balanced vs. unbalanced microphone inputs

2009-02-03 Thread Chris seeber
Hi Dale,

I think I started the thread, and since then I have gotten the microphone to
work. I use an unbalanced output of the mixer to the line input of the
SDR5000A. The cable is a 6' coax that was part of a component video/audio
ribbon cable. It works fine. I am told that I still need to tweak the
equalizer a little, but reports from the AMers are that it sounds "really
good". I switched back over to the Heil HC5 mic that I was using and it was
quite obvious that the guys on the other end of the conversation didn't want
to hear any more of that than they had to. But the unbalanced audio system,
along with the Behringer B1, appears to be working very well.

Hi Ray.

Thanks. I believe that spec would be for a 75 ohm impedance at both
ends. Since the impedance of the antenna would change considerably from
one frequency to another, that loss spec wouldn't work. Nevertheless, I
can't see that 5' of the cable would present much of a loss at any
impedance - although I'm not 100% sure.

Chris,

The published loss spec for RG-11/U is 2dB/100' @ 100 MHz. This means
that
at 100 MHz, the loss in a 5' run would be 0.1 dB. At frequencies below
30
MHz, the loss in a 5' run would be TOTALLY insignificant.

Re: [Flexradio] Balanced vs. unbalanced microphone inputs

2009-01-31 Thread Chris seeber
I have considered using a couple of short pieces of RG11 to get the
balanced line out of the shack. I don't think the additional resistance
would be that great, as the length would only be about 5 feet. However,
I'm sure there are some pretty high SWR points on the transmission line,
so I'm not sure how much loss that 5' would cause.

The major RFI problem I am having at the moment is with the Ethernet
cable running to the PC in the shack. Unfortunately it is UTP, which
runs through the walls from the second floor to the basement and back up
to the first floor, where the router is. So it's a long (probably about
75'), unshielded cable. I also get some RFI into the computer speaker
system, but I don't generally use them when I'm transmitting so I just
turn them off. The speakers connected to the 5000A don't seem to have a
problem, even though all the cabling is very close to each other. The
reason I think the primary culprit is the balanced line coming into the
shack is that when I first installed it, transmitting on 20 meters would
cause so much RFI that it would cause the computer to reboot. By moving
the transmission lines around, just a little bit (since there isn't very
much else I can do with them), I was able to eliminate that problem.
The space is very limited and there are a lot of ground wires and the
computer itself which are all very close to the transmission lines. I'm
sure the close proximity of all these things must be causing a problem.

I am in the process of reading K9YC's article. I'm hoping to have it
finished today. It is an excellent article. I am hoping the Ethernet
problem is a pin 1 problem and can be eliminated with the use of some
ferrite cores.

Thanks to everybody for the suggestions.

Except that the reason folks usually run balanced transmission lines is
to have low loss, from the high Z of the line (high Z = low current =
low IR losses, which dominate at HF over the dielectric loss). Two
coaxes makes a 100 ohm line, so you don't get the low loss benefit from
balanced openwire line. (8x also has tiny center conductors..) If you
ran dual RG-11 sized wire, perhaps.. (RG-213/RG-8 sized wire has a AWG
13 center conductor.. Compare to openwire line with AWG14 or AWG16)

Is the problem coupling "out of" a balanced openwire line?
..

If you're having interference problems with balanced AUDIO cables, then
something else is wrong. Twisted pair, unshielded, should have
substantially better interference rejection than any sort of coax
lashup, paired or otherwise. Look for a leakage capacitance problem at
one end or the other. The audio circuit probably has different parasitic
C from each side to ground, and while at audio frequencies this isn't a
big deal, at RF, it could be a problem.

Have you looked at K9YC's RFI-ham write up? It explains all sorts of
stuff about running wires hither and yon, interference, filtering, etc.
Pin 1 problems are a big issue, and he addresses how they can creep in.

Re: [Flexradio] Balanced vs. unbalanced microphone inputs

2009-01-30 Thread Chris seeber
Dudley,

Thanks. Yes, there is no doubt an "out of balance" situation going on
here. The lines are the same length, but they do come very close to the
PC (tower) case and are also routed too close to the ground wires in the
shack. There's no other way to route them in here. That's why I need
to get them outside and run coax in. I am hoping that will solve most
of the trouble.

Chris,

If you are using balanced line and getting RFI, something is out of
balanced, most likely the latter line. You must be careful that the
lengths of both lines are exactly the same, and that includes the
antenna. And ANY metal objects close to either side will throw it out
of balance. The whole ideal of balance lines is the word balanced,
exactly the same and the RF will be canceled out. These things have
to be planned very carefully. I have run balanced here and had no RF
showing on my field strength meter, if it does, there is a problem.

Re: [Flexradio] Balanced vs. unbalanced microphone inputs

2009-01-29 Thread Chris seeber
Hi Carmine,

I was wondering about the RFI issue myself. It may be a problem here,
as I do have a fair amount of RFI in here. I'm using 450 ohm window
line connected to baluns in the shack for the antenna feeds. I plan on
moving the baluns outside and running coax in, but I was thinking of
waiting until the snow melts. I'll use some ferrites on the audio line.
Hopefully they'll do the trick. I have terrible RFI problems on my
Ethernet connection - in both directions (that is hash/birdies into the
receiver and data errors from the transmitter). I need to get some good
ferrites for that connection as well.

But its fun trying to figure out how to make all this work well.

I would think the audio quality difference will be incomprehensible
barring a ground loop or a level mismatch.

Please bear in mind that balanced audio circuits should have a
considerably higher immunity to strong RF fields (RFI) than a typical
"consumer grade" unbalanced, coax like shielded audio- a.k.a. "RCA or
phono type" connections.

Re: [Flexradio] Balanced vs. unbalanced microphone inputs

2009-01-28 Thread Chris seeber
Thanks to all who have helped me out with this question. George, the
problem is that (1) the microphone needs 48V phantom power to work and the
Flex doesn't provide that and (2) the mixer doesn't have an XLR output (or
any balanced output for that matter). I should have checked that before I
purchased it. Tim's RCA to RCA connection solution seems the simplest to
do, so I'll try that first. I might also try Bill's suggestion of
connecting the unbalanced mixer output to the balanced Flex input. That
looks like a fun little project that even I could do. It will be
interesting to see what the difference in audio quality would be between the
two.

[Flexradio] Balanced vs. unbalanced microphone inputs

2009-01-27 Thread Chris seeber

I have a Behringer B1 microphone that I'd like to use with the Flex
5000A. I picked up a Behringer UB802 mixer so I could get the 48V
phantom power to the mic. Unfortunately the UB802 only has an
unbalanced output (1/4" phone jack - ground on the sleeve and audio on
the tip). The output has about a 120 ohm impedance.

What would be the best way to connect this mixer to the Flex 5000?
Should I use the line-in (RCA) connector on the back? Or should I
figure out a way to wire up an adaptor to run into the balanced line
input on the back?

Thanks.

Re: [Flexradio] Longwave Reception with Flex 5000

2009-01-26 Thread Chris seeber
Harry,

You need some kind of external low pass / band pass filter. If you get
them, it works great with the filters installed in the 5000's RX in /
out loop. I purchased a low pass filter from W1VLF that works really
well. But to cover the entire band, you would probably need two or
three of them. Good Luck.

Hi,
I am wondering if any of you have attempted to use the Flex 5000 to
receive longwave stations below 500KHZ. I have listened down in that
range and the only thing I hear is BCI from the stations in the US
broadcast band. I assume a filter is needed to reject the BC band
interference.

and Mixw2 on Widnows 7.
I myself use my SDR1000 on a Intel P4 3 Ghz system with 3 soundcards
installed.

Delta M44 for the SDR / VAC and a Creative SB PCI 128, also a AC97 on board.
I use Flex USB/LPT device to control the SDR1000 via USB.
I installed Mixw2/VAC 4.09, Multipsk/Commander/VAC 4.09.
Also Hamradio Delux/Digital Master and Fldigi.
All drivers loaded perfect.
So Windows 7 works great !

[Flexradio] ATU question

2008-12-25 Thread Chris seeber
Happy Holidays to all of the happy Flexers out there!

I just installed an ATU in my Flex5000A which has the second receiver
installed. Does the memory in the ATU know which antenna the
measurement was made on? For example, if I set up the tuner to tune
21.130 MHz on Antenna 1, and then I set it up to tune 28.130 MHz on
Antenna 2, will it know which setting to tune to the next time I go to
28.130 on Antenna 1 and then know enough to retune from it's memory when
I go to 28.130 on Antenna 2?

Also, when I press the "ATU" button on PowewrSDR's main screen, does the
tuner do a full tune or a memory tune? Does it matter what I set the
ATU setup screen to when using the ATU button on the main screen?

Sorry for all the questions. I read the manual, but I must've missed
this part. I've never had an ATU before. It sure beats cranking the
knobs on my manual antenna tuner.

Thanks in advance.

Re: [Flexradio] CAT and PTT COM ports

2008-11-26 Thread Chris seeber
Bob,

So let's say you have a COM5-COM7 pair set up for PowerSDR's CAT Com
port. PowerSDR is set up for COM5. I assume you set up DXLab's
Commander on COM7 and DM780 for COM7. That means you can't run them
both at the same time, correct? I think (although I'm still playing
with it) that with the help of DDUtil, you could run both Commander and
DM780 at the same time.

I guess in MixW's case, I could set up a PTT port pair between PowerSDR
and MixW to control MixW and set up the CAT port pair between PowerSDR
and Commander to control Commander. I'll give it a try.

Thanks for the explanation. That is exactly what I was looking for.

Chris,

Basically, the CAT com port sends/receives CAT commands, the CAT PTT
port
just bit bangs the RTS/DTR serial comm signals. Some third party
programs
look for the CAT transmit command (TX or ZZTX) to go into transmit mode,
others, like MixW, are looking for a relay closure (or simulated closure
in
our virtual situation) to change to transmit mode.

I use DXLab Commander and use the CAT command port to control TX/RX. I
sometimes use DM780 in Ham Radio Deluxe for digital modes and it also
keys
the transmitter via a CAT command. In any case, CAT commands and CAT
PTT
(if used) must be on different port numbers.

What is the difference between the CAT Com port that is assigned in
PowerSDR and the PTT Com port that is assigned? I've noticed that some
of these third-party programs only request one of them. Commander asks
for a serial port (I'm not sure if that should connect to PowerSDR's CAT
or PTT port), MixW asks for a PTT & CAT port (one port for both I
think), WinWarbler asks for a PTT port, etc. I'm trying to figure out
what PowerSDR does with each of it's two ports. Maybe once I figure
this out all of this will make more sense.

I am using N8VB's vcomm utility that works well so far.

Thanks very much.

I noticed the same problem also with SDR/Mixw2
Also using Delta44 - Newest PowerSDR Software and Vac 4.09, Cat controlled
First there is no delay, but how more RX/TX or TX/RX I have in a qso

Some om's reported that already a year ago, but nobody payed much

I can reset the delay two ways, I go quick to STBY or click the VAC button

[Flexradio] Heil Handi Mic and Flex 5000A

2008-09-21 Thread Chris seeber
I have a Heil Handi Mic (HC-5) and a CC-1-y cable that I purchased from
Flex along with the 5000A. There is a button on the HC-5. I assume
this is a PTT button. If it's not, then what is it? If it is, is there
a way to get it to key the transmitter using the XLR connection on the
front of the radio? I checked the KC and the two options ("All mode Mic
PTT" and "Disable PTT") have the proper check boxes marked / unmarked in
the 5000A's setup menu.

BTW, I've had a SDR1000 for a couple of years, but only the 1W version.
With my mediocre antenna I was unable to communicate with anyone on it.
Before that I've been inactive (other than occasional SWLing) since
1982. Now that I have the 5000, I've been able to get on the air for
the first time in about 26 years. Everybody I've called has answered
and I've had good audio reports. This is a great radio!

I have also been having a good time figuring out the DXLabs suite.
Thanks in a great part to Bill (W9OL), it's working pretty well.

Thank you.

[Flexradio] Logging program

2008-08-24 Thread Chris seeber
Hi,

I've been reading this reflector for the last couple of years (since I
bought my 1W SDR1000) but I don't think I have ever posted anything
here. I really haven't had to. The SDR1000 has been working fine (as a
receiver) since I plugged it in.

I bit the bullet yesterday and bought a 5000A at the hamvention in
Boxboro, MA. I guess the house will have to wait another year for it's
paint job (that didn't go over too well). I enjoyed meeting the Flex
team that was there and the presentation that they did. I also managed
to upgrade to a general class license after being a novice for 28 years
and a Tech+ for two years. So, although I was pretty active on CW many
years ago, I haven't been on the air since then and am trying to figure
out what to do about logging programs (back then it was done with a
pencil and paper).

I've been fooling around with MixW and DM780 and they both have logging
functions built in. I keep hearing about N1MM for a logging program. I
would like to find one that is good for award tracking and contesting,
since I think that is what I will be interested in. I am trying to
avoid starting with one program and then having to transfer everything
to another one if I find I don't like it.

So (I guess it's too late to make a long story short), what do you guys
like for logging programs and why?

Thanks.

[Flexradio] Hanging TX to RX

2008-02-23 Thread Chris Gerber
I was holding back this message for a long time, because dont know, if
it will help.
On my side it cured the problem of the hanging TX to RX complet.
When at beginning of August my Flex5000 missbehaved and I was hardly
ever able to have disent qso, I always had the hanging problem,
I observed, that it was only happening when using higher power.
I had a SB-1000 Linear hooked up and running about 100 to 200 W
mostly Digital modes. Driven from a external soundcard in my computer (Mixw)
When using a good working VAC setup the problem hardly ever occured.
(Only when PTT still connected)
I unplugged the hooked up PTT line at the RCA connecter and used the
Tune function
to drive the linear to 150 W.
With the PTT line connected via the RCA connecter, the system hang.
With the PTT line out, the problem was gone.
U suspected a Rf interference via the PTT line, as the inputs on the
Flex5000
is a very high impedance darlington device, which could confuse the
Flex5000 logic,
even Gerald (Flex) added a a few SMD filter beats in that line.
I added first external a L-C filter with a L of 10 microH in serie and a
C of 10 nF
after the L to Ground.
That did it, I never had a hanging Problem anymore when hooked up the
PTT line.
So I suggest, all the guys having the problems, investigate what your
hookups you have
remove all of them, and try with Tune or VAC to power up the system and
see if it
still exists.
Again here it helped. I wrote this mail as I still see no cure with all
the Soft - Firmware correction.

Hi

I am running PowerSDR SVN up to the latest version without any problems.
Soundcard is Delta M44.
I use VAC 4.08 as link between SDR1000 and Mixw. No problem all working
as it should.
Also use a second installed SB Soundcard to drive the SDR1000 with Mixw
via Mic Input,
all working great.
Same thing with Jeffs latest PowerSdr software. All working ok.
After downloading PowerSDR v1.10.4 I made a new Install, creating a new
db file.
All working ok, SDR - Mixw with VAC ok.
Then hooked together SDR1000 - Mixw with my second installed SB
Soundcard, via MIC input
as mention above.
Now am getting NO RF Output. I can see the output signal appearing on
the pandisplay,
also see the Powermeter showing output on the meter, but cant hear the
monitor audiosignal, when MON on
X2TR is ok, MOX is ON - but no output !!
When I transfer my former Powersdr.mdb into the folder of the new
v1.10.4 install,
all works as its should.
I tried it all way, to bring the new version to work, no luck, it want
output any RF.
Do I miss something?

[Flexradio] Strange things with v1.10.4

2008-01-29 Thread Chris Gerber

Re: [Flexradio] FlexRadio Digest, Vol 33, Issue 21

2008-01-23 Thread Chris Gerber

Hello Jeff, Eric

Thanks for the hints. After a few years using SDR's one can still learn
something.
I am very pleased the way recording and playback can be done on the
different
versions and am making regular use of it.

Re: [Flexradio] FlexRadio Digest, Vol 33, Issue 20

2008-01-21 Thread Chris Gerber
Hi Eddy

This startup delay with VAC when using Tune is is been around for a long
time.
To get out of it, after using TUNE when working with VAC:
Switch OFF VAC on PowerSDR and and ON again and the delay is off.
Its a built in problem on PowerSDR and has nothing to do with any other
stuff.
I am able to recall this problem with SVN Version 1426, but any newer SVN
versions including K6JCA, the problem seemed to be gone.

Am using:
Soundcard Delta M44 (With new XP/Vista Driver)
SDR1000, (Had the problem also with the Flex5000)
VAC 4.08

[Flexradio] New K6JCA console program

2008-01-19 Thread Chris Gerber
Hi Jeff (k6jca)

First thanks for the new console program. It works like a charm. I am so
pleased with it!
I have setup both, your and the new SVN version in different folders,
so I can switch between both in a second.
I am doing a lot of signal recording, and am so happy with your quick
recording.
Now some questions, you or someone else can answer.
Jeff, on your console program, when playing back the recorded
soundtrack, I always
have to make a leftmouse click inside the spectrum part in order to
place the soundtrack into the filter area.
Then I am not able to play back a recorded AM signal. Its sounds
distorted, I have to use mode LSB, USB or DSB
to hear it proper. Why?
A good thing is, I am able to play it back on my installed mediaplayers
or even change it to MP3 file. to a much
smaller size.
Now a second question, does any body know a free mediaplayer to play
back the wav files created with the
SVN PowerSDR console prorgram. So far I am only able to play it back on
the console itself. Am also not able
to reformat it to a MP3 file. Am I missing something?
