Re: [Flightgear-devel] ALERT: Losing the DAFIF
Hi All Here is the information if anyone wants to read it. http://www.avweb.com/bizav/10_04/news/186538-1.html David Megginson writes Chris Metzler wrote: Is there an official announcement of this somewhere? I've looked all around the NGA and NACO sites but haven't found anything. How did he hear about this? Is there any kind of timetable? Were there reasons stated? According to the message I quoted, the Australian government is suing Jeppesen for publishing information obtained from Australian aviation publications. That's bad news not only for the flying community but for the flight sim community as well -- it sounds like they're claiming copyright not only on their publications but on the information itself (i.e. the location of runways or VORs). No the Australian government is not suing anyone what appears to have happened is that Airservices Australia is asking commercial users of its information to pay for it. In Australia we have a freedom of information act that means we as citizens can view any information that the government holds as long as it is not restricted for military or commercial reasons. While I do not support the principle of user pays it seems to be popular with governments. The fact that Jeppesen seems to be complaining about haveing to pay for information that it makes its living off seems a little hypocritical. In this day and age where people like Mc Donalds can copyright there name all around the world so nobody else can use it in there business even if there mane is McDonald. So I guess in this Copyright/Patent/trademark happy world it is not surprising that people want to jump on the bandwagon. It would seem with Jeppsen they are worried that it will spread world wide.I also notice that the benevolent company they are. When they found out they could make some money floging there out of date charts to the flight sim community they just went for it.I bet it never occured to them to give the old information away. The only sad thing in the end is that it is you and me the end users that will pay. All the best, David Cheers(from OZ) Innis _ Protect your inbox from harmful viruses with new ninemsn Premium. The Garmin 296 handheld GPS includes terrain obstructions (such as towers), which could save of lives; however, the Canadian government refused to provide obstruction information for Canada unless they got a royalty for each unit sold -- It's always nice to see how governments get away by using public money to gather data, and let the public pay again to get the data ... The situation in most European countries is not any better though. I wonder what would happen if some unaware pilot cuts the cable of an actively used cable railway in the Alps because of the lack of information. [Flightgear-devel] FG Launcher and the airports
Hi, All! I'm having a few problems running the windows version. The FG Launcher is not listing any airport. How could I solve this? What is the correct directory for scenery/airport files? Thanks in advance! [Flightgear-devel] FG Launcher and the airports
The launcher only lists airports that are present in your installed scenaries. I think your problem is in your scenary path on the first tab of the launcher (FG_SCENERY field). You shoulf have something like /FlightGear/data/SceneryTerrain. Then press refresh on the airport page. Marcio Shimoda wrote: Hi, All! I'm having a few problems running the windows version. The FG Launcher is not listing any airport. How could I solve this? What is the correct directory for scenery/airport files? Thanks in advance! There was a change to the default FG scenery path structure which the launcher didn't catch up with for the v0.9.5 release. Bernie/Fred fixed the problem and I rolled it into a new version of the release, so if you download the very latest from the web site, this problem should be fixed. If you ask Fred nicely, he might be able to send you just the updated fgrun.exe so you don't have to redownload everything else at the same time. Ampere K. Hardraade wrote: Can you provide more explanation? Most of the textures, models and what's not is released under the terms of the GPL. Products licensed under the GPL should remain under the GPL forever (or until the original author authorities the license change). So if you want to sell them using the mentioned site, you would have to make sure the license remains the same. If people see the GPL license then they know they can get them for free somewhere, and if people don't notice the GPL license it might ens up being distributed under a different license (which is prohibited). [Flightgear-devel] JSBSim Helicopter ... ?
Maybe we'll get some more user feedback. The release of the ec130 may motivate more people to fly helicopters. In the end a property might be necessary. Now, if only we had someone to finish YASim's missing helicopter FDM parts, and fix the bugs. Hey, or what about a JSBSim helicopter? :-) This is something I have always intended on doing. THere is an FGRotor class that has not been filled out, yet. Apart from that, the dynamics of a helicopter I think would make it a lot more difficult to get a realistic model going.
