[Flightgear-devel] [Announce] fog/mist/haze layer now active

2010-12-15 Thread Torsten Dreyer
Hi all,

i have just pushed some changes to activate a METAR generated cloud layer
representing fog, mist and haze if reported.
Check it out by selecting the Early morning fog weather scenario in the
global weather dialog. It'll get you half a mile visibility and a fog layer
of 500' thickness. Once you passed 500ft of altitude you find yourself in a
clear sky and above the fog.

The transition when passing through the top edge of the layer is not perfect
as you might find out by yourself. I'm open to ideas how to improve this.

Enjoy - and please report bugs.

Hi all

I did (mid october) a flightgear page on Productwiki site.

Product wiki is an intersting site where you can describe and rewiew any

Since the creation, additional links appeared on the Product manuals

Re: [Flightgear-devel] decoding coordinates of a particular tile

2010-12-15 Thread Jacob Burbach
Thanks guys.

After poking around the sgbucket code a bit I fixed everything up and
made it work well enough to generate a kml for the area I'm interested
in.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=qsource=s_qhl=engeocode=q=http:%2F%2Fdl.dropbox.com%2Fu%2F15218376%2Ftile.kmlsll=37.0625,-95.677068sspn=40.409448,93.076172ie=UTF8ll=47.565407,12.409058spn=2.157209,5.817261t=kz=8

Red border is the 1x1 degree chunk, white grid is of course the tiles
inside that chunk. Now I can visualize exactly what lies within each
tile and how flightgear will be loading and unloading my scenery.
I'll be using this to decide how to best partition up the static
geometry in my Innsbruck scenery project for performance and so on.

cheers!

Based on what I saw when following the link, I might suggest that it's not a
good way to promote FlightGear, since it's not for sale. There are an Amazon
and Ebay link on the site main stage as someplace to buy FlightGear, which
purely takes the potential user away from what FlightGear is and exposes them
to Flight Simulators that are commercial and available to purchase.

I suggest a commercial product page is an excellent place to sell CDs
and DVDs that include the binaries (for all platforms), all source
code, the base image, and as much scenery as will fit. And the game
live disk image that we've had for a while. For a bonus, add links to
the t-shirts, mugs and the donation page. 8-)

3. git add

Models/Wings/wings.ac

4. git commit

5. git push

Many thanks

Not only you, and it is really annoying meanwhile. And I don't think it is a
good solution evextime to ask the support on gitorious to run a gc.

If you type free software in the search field on productwiki,
Flightgear is displayed on the second position out of 25700 results :-D

Well, FGFS is a product and its lowest price remains 0 USD or whatever
currency... that's how works our new web of data. At least the
description gives the necessary details on how to get it for free. Note
that everything in there can be improved by anyone.

[Flightgear-devel] Google movies

2010-12-15 Thread Curtis Olson
A while back I dabbled with the idea of running google ads on behalf of
FlightGear with a very small ad budget ... I'm not sure if they've ever done
anything for us, but apparently I'm now on google's contact list. They sent
me the following movie which is kind of lame, but kind of cool how they work
the flightgear.org domain name right into the movie. I'm not sure how they
do that ... must be some new google/youtube/chrome/nanobot technology or
something. Anyway, if you don't mind sitting through the lame parts, here
is the movie link:

Looks like dad has messed up his compilation script or otherwise
