Hi Chris,

Thanks for the suggestion about the correct method I should have used for downsampling the textures.

The updated set is now available it features:

*Correctly downsampled Low-res textures.
*Revised version of Drycrop1, Drycrop2, and Drycrop3 (these are sharper, and less repetitive).

You can download it from:

Yes, the low-res set is just a cropped down version of the high res set. I wasn't too sure If I should have resampled the set or cropped them.  Thanks for the clarification on how I should have handled the low-res set, I'll fix the set tonight and include some slight adjustments to drycrop1, drycrop2, and drycrop3 so that their patterns appear less repetitve over a great distances.

Hi. I'm a bit confused about these. I took a quick look at them

Hi,
if you use FG CVS or Fred's binaries of 0.9.10 (see bottom) then you can
use Melchior Franz' great UFO improvement - speed reduction with the "flaps"
Your actual speed setting is displayed when you select flap down/up and
it makes navigating the UFO to a selected point very comfortable!

And you will get "Zero" speed with this even if your joystick-throttle

you probably need to calibrate your joystick.

Perhaps in the short term we could abuse the seasonal functionality to
also do region specific textures, for instance, instead of Summer and
Winter, we could have Europe-Summer, Europe-Winter, Australia-Fall,
USA-Spring, etc. etc. ...

Is there any reason not to include them in CVS already?

I think they look great and in many areas really improve the out-the-window
view. I vote for including them.

Question: is there any way to make a 'hires' set of these? The provided
textures are all 256x256, but we have the capability of doing higher res
textures for people with enough memory on their cards to support it. 2x or 4x
the resolution would really sharpen up the view.

Very nice. Do you plan on making different textures for different parts
of the world? We don't have the capability to use them yet, but it has
been talked about a lot. If the textures were there to be used, I am
sure that it would motivate someone to contribute the code.

Josh

Is there any reason not to include them in CVS already?

Very interesting, indeed!
In particular New England area seems very
realistic.
As a matter of fact you have substituted the old
textures with new ones got from satellite photos.
Could you show the same areas before and after in
order to be able to compare them?

I have downloaded the new textures and I'll try
them
thanks
Alex

I created a new set of world textures for Flightgear which should
look a little more interesting than the current set. If you want to try
them out you can and download the current beta from my site http://mellonroot.acomp.usf.edu/~pheonix any feedback
