Even when I put the engine at minimum! That's caused by torque from the spinning prop. The same happens in the real thing! Just hold a bit of right rudder during the takeoff roll, and straighten it out upon liftoff from runway surface. This is one instance where separate rudder and aileron control (from joystick or keyboard) is helpful. Notice that he said even when he pulls the throttle to idle ... I'll leave this one up to the aerodynamasists to answer. Curt. Yep.. He (Mike?) did say put the throttle at minimum (I assume he meant idle) but the prop will still be spinning under power. Therefore it is still correct, afaik :-) George Patterson ___ Flightgear-users mailing list Flightgear-users@flightgear.org http://mail.flightgear.org/mailman/listinfo/flightgear-users 2f585eeea02e2c79d7b1d8c4963bae2d

Therefore it is still correct, afaik :-) If the prop is truly windmilling, then it is experiencing a negative torque and the aircraft will want to roll slightly to the right, not left. Note that in the YASim model currently (I assume this post was about the JSBSim 172), the windmilling regime isn't modelled terribly well and this negative torque is effectively zero. What version of FG and platform are you running on? v0.9.8 as checked out from CVS last week. OS is linux Fedora Core 2. Hmm, I've just tested a current CVS checkout on a Debian system and it seems to work OK. Please forgive some of the next questions if they seem too simple! Have you swapped 119.0 into the active frequency on comm1 after setting it? Yes. Does the ATC text display work on your system? Tune comm1 to 119.0 (or any towered airport in range) and press the ' key to contact ATC. If you are tuned into a towered airport you should see a dialog box come up offering 'Contact tower for VFR arrival' as one of the options. Press OK for contact tower for VFR arrival - you should see your transmission (This is Golf Foxtrot Sierra... etc) near the top of the screen. Yes, I see that message. Is the AI system activating properly? If you compile FG yourself, then uncomment line 188 in src/ATC/line to leave cout activated.size() '\n'; This should output a number every frame which gradually increments to 6 (if you start at KSFO) over the course of 10 seconds or so. (It's the number of airports with AI traffic arrivals activated). Oddly, after uncommenting that line and compiling, I now see AI aircraft at San Carlos and Oakland. Output shows 7 AI arrivals activated after 20-30 seconds when starting at KSFO. Not sure now where I was going wrong before. Could be that I did not notice AI aircraft because I was sitting on the runway (did they go around?). But until today I did not notice ATC messages when tuning to 119.00. I'll assume the point here is to follow ATC instructions which indicate active runway and direction of traffic in the pattern. Thanks again for the help. Mike __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Re: [Flightgear-users] Enabling AI traffic into patterns/loop
just to jump quickly I want to see the AI also so Ill try the suggestions but one thing I do notice is the text on the screen is partially hidden by the menus across the top. Is there a way to make the text appear lower on the screen or hide the menus Mac OS.Minott OpdykeSCTRose Elementary School432-2495[EMAIL PROTECTED] 09/21/05 4:07 pm Mike Rawlins writes:Yes they are set.I usually confirm that settingthese parameters in the preferences.xml file makesthem show as checked in the menu. What version of FG and platform are you running onv0.9.8 as checked out from CVS last week.OS is linuxFedora Core 2.Hmm Ive just tested a current CVS checkout on a Debian system and it seems to work OK.Please forgive some of the next questions if they seem too simpleHave you swapped 119.0 into the active frequency on comm1 after setting itDoes the ATC text display work on your systemTune comm1 to 119.0 or any towered airport in range and press the key to contact ATC.If you are tuned into a towered airport you should see a dialog box come up offering Contact tower for VFR arrival as one of the options.Press OK for contact tower for VFR arrival - you should see your transmission This is Golf Foxtrot Sierra... etc near the top of the screen. Is the AI system activating properlyIf you compile FG yourself then uncomment line 188 in src/ATC/AIMgr.cxx to leavecout activated.size nThis should output a number every frame which gradually increments to 6 if you start at KSFO over the course of 10 seconds or so.Its the number of airports with AI traffic arrivals activated. The GA AI traffic is often very hard to see.It is removed from the runway at the end of roll-out so wont be seen in the parking areas and often looks like a hard to see dot when in the air.Ill put a couple of screenshots up when I get a chance.Sitting at the approach end of the runway on the taxiway or apron otherwise theyll go around and watching them land is the best way to watch them in action.I cant really think of anything else at the moment unless its something to do with random number generation differences between machines or compiler versions since the traffic is all generated randomly.Im compiling with gcc-3.3.Cheers - DaveFlightgear-users mailing listFlightgear-users@flightgear.orghttp://mail.flightgear.org/mailman/listinfo/flightgear-users2f585eeea02e2c79d7b1d8c4963bae2d ___ Flightgear-users mailing list Flightgear-users@flightgear.org http://mail.flightgear.org/mailman/listinfo/flightgear-users 2f585eeea02e2c79d7b1d8c4963bae2d
[Flightgear-users] DATCOM+ for RedHat 9.0 Linux
The RedHat 9.0 Linux version of the DATCOM program is finally available. See www.holycows.net/datcom A user told me about a small problem. It appears that declaring ground effects terms causes the DATCOM.OUT output to have an error in the header of the fourth and subsequent tables. The Mach number is changed from 0.4 to 10.0, as well as a couple other terms in the header. Other effects are not known at this point. No one is probably deseperate for this this fix, though, huh? ___ Flightgear-users mailing list Flightgear-users@flightgear.org http://mail.flightgear.org/mailman/listinfo/flightgear-users 2f585eeea02e2c79d7b1d8c4963bae2d
