Re: FLUXLIST: UMBC symposium
All right I've been reading the emails about the symposium at UMBC and for the life of me I can't figure out where exactly it is. Maybe I'm just a little dense but could someone tell me! I would like to go. Thanks

FLUXLIST: Rutger's Fluxus events
Hi aal, I just wanted to report on the recent Fluxus Day I attended at Rutger's. Sorry it's after the fact but the date snuck up on me. In conjunction with the opening of the exhibit Critical Mass curated by Geoffrey Hendrick's Rutger's sponsored a Fluxus Olympics MC'ed by Larry Miller in the afternoon and, following the opening of the exhibit, a performance of Dick Higgins A Thousand Symphonies conducted by Philip Corner. It was a fantastic day. Some of the sports were the Zen Sprint, Ballon Javelin Throwing, Stilt Soccer, Flux Badminton and Flux Ping Pong. Alison Knowles was there as well as Hannah Higgins. A Flux time was had by all. The exhibit continues through October and there's a Flux Mass being conducted I think on Nov 1st. You can check out the Rutger's website for details. Benjamin

Re: FLUXLIST: NY CITY
Living here as I do I'm sure to be around and would love to hoot or otherwise. There's a cool art/performance space in Brooklyn called Galapagos that seems to have something going on everynight. I haven't been there yet but it might provide some fun. Pick a date that's good. Oh yeah, meryl mabey. Benjamin

It's certainly the first email I've gotten in a while. Very exciting. Hi, everyone.
FLUXLIST: Printer in NYC
Hi, I have a photohraphy book that I want to get printed and I live in New York. I'm looking for someone who can do quality colour gloss prints, it's about 32 pages with a diecut cover. I want to run about 50-75 copies for the first run. I've worked with a few larger printers and find they don't really care about smaller art projects. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Re: FLUXLIST: request for help
I know that for printing you have to save the colors as CYMK for them to print correctly. Doing that made a big difference printing my magazine. Occaisionally that changes the image onscreen a little but I don't know what to about that. Of course, I don't know what that means when dealing with the web. Hope that helps Benjamin
Re: FLUXLIST: lawn gnome performance

Re: FLUXLIST: FLUXLIST Box #2 count me in
I would love to contribute to the box project. I like sending 50 (or whatever) of one item and then getting back a collection. You get to see more people's art that way. But what ever's decided will work. Benjamin
Re: FLUXLIST: More ideas about the box
I like the jar unless it's really to fragile, in that case I would go for the globe. Thanks for doing the research. Benjamin
FLUXLIST: Earlier Sticker request
Goes anyone have the request from a zine that went out a while a go asking for a 1000 stickers to be sent in and redistributed? If so could they forward it to me or repost it. Thanks, Benjamin
Re: FLUXLIST: Re: RHIZOME_RAW: Joseph McElroy
I would agree with Don's statement about the spirit of Fluxus. I've enjoyed this list for it's fun and inclusiveness. Everyone is supportive of peoples requests and comments and there have recently been some wierd and I would say aggressive comments (I apologize if any were mine). Artistic environements should never be censored but respect should always be given. Ben
Re: FLUXLIST: Maciunas Tree
According to the book Mr. Fluxus the tree is an Ailanthus tree, commonly known as the 'tree of heaven' or 'tree of the gods'. It is known for its hardiness and quickness of growth. It is extremely hard to get rid of. The book I was reading said if you plant this be sure you want it because you won't be able to get rid of it.
Re: FLUXLIST: Maciunas Tree
The friend I went with said it was a gum tree, but I don't know what that is. She's checking the book for me. And yes there is another one near it, but I don't remember if George planted it. benJAmin
FLUXLIST: Maciunas Tree
I know George Maciunas can be a controversial figure on this list, but I wanted to give you all an update. Many years ago, sometime in the late sixties I seem to remember. Maciunas planted a tree in front of 80 Wooster in SoHo, his domicile at the time, . Last weekend I went to see if it was still there and indeed there is was, healthy and quite large. I'm sure that would make George happy.

I know a lot of people have pushed forward the idea that painting and sculpture are dead, regardless of the title, but I think that judging from the number of painters and sculptures out there those people are far from right. Re: FLUXLIST: FLUXLIST.SWIKI
I would say the idea of overpainting in cyberspace is vastly different then overpainting on a wall. I think the idea of seeing what other people do with my ideas (I admit to not contributing anything yet so I'm speaking hypothetically) is as interesting, if not more, as seeing what I do with them. And int he digital realm what I do is always recoverable. It all comes down to respect for each others work, which is something I've seen plenty of on the list. I love the wiki environment and can't wait to see how things develop. Ben
Re: FLUXLIST: Fifty/Forty Eight
Whatever you just wrote about sounds very interesting. Could you take a minute to explain what metamute and wikis are and they might work. Thanks
Re: FLUXLIST: 50/50
I'm up for contributing a page. I like the idea of doing a real/fake anthology of historical fluxus material. Benjamin

FLUXLIST: Inquiry
Hi, I was considering purchasing some Stationary designed by Maciunas from a company called Heart Fine Art in Edinburgh. They say it is a scarce first edition. Does anyone know if this is a reputable company? Than ks
Re: FLUXLIST: Re: a simplistic appraoch...., 2
While I don't think that subscribing strictly to Maciunas' ideas of Fluxus is at all necessary, I do agree with his dislike of the term avant. Avant implies being ahead of the group or at least separate and Fluxus, to my feelings, is for of and by the masses. One of its goals is making art part of life and life part of art. Its not an art discipline that one learns after studying for years at an academy. Fluxus is alive as long as people want to challenge the bourgoise (sp?), and have fun and be creative. Benjamin

Re: FLUXLIST: US Department of Art Technology
Hi, I have just recently joined the Fluxlist and have been enthralled over the last few days reading what's going on. I for one support your idea of a U.S. Department of Art Technology. I would propose starting it even without Bush's approval. We may not get the immediate access and funding as other cabinet positions but the need is there and we could still do the necessary work.
