Very nice with that cassette pulling trick! /Björn - Original Message - From: Kamen Nedev [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: FLUXLIST@scribble.com Sent: Tuesday, May 02, 2006 4:16 PM Subject: Re: FLUXLIST: no rock #1 This was actually a performance piece - well, part of a performance suite I was in. A joint project between the Circo Interior Bruto and Discoteca Flaming Star (http://www.discotecaflamingstar.com). The whole suite was about rock. Or rawk. Or cockrock. Or whatever. The thing is the audience were in the venue, there was a stage, a lightshow, but nothing happened on the stage, all the events were within/inside/behind the audience. This was the script (if I can call it that way) of a piece I did on the stage, closing the show. The setting was that of a singer/ songwriter, me with a mike and an acoustic guitar I would pretend to be tuning. Everything else was meant to sound like between-song chit- chat, and the audience was expecting a song to start. Instead they got this (in Spanish). The story kidn of turns around itself, changing only slightly at each repetition. I would be tuning and detuning the guitar while doing this. It went on for a good ten minutes. Then there was an audio trick, one of my favourite lo-fi audio resources: the whole thing was being recorded on a shitty cassette deck I had previously tampered with. At the end of the piece, I would stand up, press the pause and play buttons, and pull out the tape from the cassette canister, literally unwinding it and playing back the recording at variable speed, pulling the tape throughout the audience. I liked that piece. I liked the whole project - it is still one of my favourites. That was back in November 2001. I'm glad it stands its ground as a text, too. Cheers! Kamen P.S. So far: we've heard from many of our Swedish text-sound composers who really are masters of this kind of thing - even younger composers in that country have continued this tradition of experimentationin poetics - but also Dada poetics of Tzara, Schwitters, Duchamp, et al., Fluxus performers like Ben Patterson, Paik, Henning Christiansen,Bob Cobbing, et al. and some of our own contributors to the various CD comps and Podcasts. Re: FLUXLIST: Direct Links to FLuXial PoDcAst filezzz
Yeah, that is also a kind of podcast - I mean sending an e-mail with a link to media file within it - and people downloads it manually. A podcast a bit more manual than using iPod or other receivers - but anyway. Start to think that this somewhat what McLuhan meant with the fish not seing the water... But anyway I still like the Podcast receiving tools. I have been downloading since 1996 and I think I still have only listened to 10% of it with an automated downloading function I can make that go down to 5%. But I think that is good too... it is like going to the library loaning 15 to 20 books that I know I won't be able to read in time... just the feeling of being able to listen to whtever get me some satisfaction even if it is only snippets here and there - like when just turning up pages randomly in books - and reading a sentence or two - then never read in that book no more. I like that - too. At the same time I also like having time to listen, read, look in a pace that is not stressed by the fact that there is always more to consume. To walk slow - and register every move and sensation. Information overflow some might say - but also enjoying the estethics of information itself. Sorry if this is not so well thought about by me as I type it down - just contributing to the info overload. Re: FLUXLIST: FLUXUS PODCAST UPDATE
Hello Mellisa and others who might have some problems with receiving the Fluxus Podcast. I'll try to explains one or two things... these are same things I have asked myself earlier... First a Podcast is nothing more of a way of distributing files, preferable sound and video files. To receive these files you need a Podcast Catcher... like Juice, Doppler and also a lot more applications like iTunes. iTunes is also a very faceted media player with lot's of more functions built in. In iTunes there is also this built in Podcast receiving function (only the latest versions though, I think you must have 6... if you have an old iTunes the Podcast function might not be there) Now I drop three url:s to differend Podcast Catchers... or as they often call them Aggregators or Podcast Receivers. http://juicereceiver.sourceforge.net/ (multiplatform windows - mac - linux) http://www.dopplerradio.net/?page_id=64 (for windows) http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ (for mac - pc) and here is one about Podcasting in general: http://www.podcastalley.com/what_is_a_podcast.php Podcast Alley is also a great place for searching for different podcasts: http://www.podcastalley.com/index.php (Walter, maybe you should add address for the Fluxus Podcast here?) Well and finally... the url:adress ending with xml is not a web-page... this is the feed for the podcast. This info is to be put into the podcast catcher to start receive from that special podcaster. In iTunes I think you add it at podcaster page with advanced - subscribe to podcast - add then add url - ok For Fluxus Podcast the feed is (=the url to add in podcast catcher): http://homepage.mac.com/cianciusi/podcast.xml Sometimes the feeds ends with rss and other things aswell instead of xml but that I won't get into cause that I can't explain why... Hope you get some more clues by this above! And yes, there is a bit of hard work before the podcasting thing fit's in. Some people tend to want to visit different webpages and there download the mp3's... and that's fine. I do it too, but that is not what the Podcasting concept is about. It is about to not need to visit different pages to get the content you want. Huh..? Anyway, now stop! :) /Björn Eriksson Roger Stevens - Bottom Of The Stairs (2:52) added to Fluxus Podcast. Re: FLUXLIST: JOB_APP
Yeah, all these podcasting mess is a bit buggy sometimes. But once you get an aggregator that reads the podcasts good, it is easy to get addicted. Really an aggregator is not any more complicated that an automated downloader of selected subscripted podcasts. Some people wants to call the aggregators for podcast catchers instead to demystifie this all podcast hype. I have used Doppler, iTunes and Juice. I like Juice best (Juice was called iPodder before). It is for both PC and Mac. I am on PC but I guess it should be no worse problem with a mac. /Björn - Original Message - From: Rod Stasick [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: FLUXLIST@scribble.com Sent: Sunday, February 05, 2006 10:43 PM Subject: Re: FLUXLIST: JOB_APP On 1427Muharram 06, at 9:42 AM, Björn Eriksson wrote: Don't know if this is what this question is about... but anyway, an easy way to get a podcast working very fast and hassle free is to use the Podomatic service. It is a free service (up to 250MB) and is up and running as fast as you can fill in the login data. Me myself has one located at http://miulew.podomatic.com/ You get a xml/rss adress. Also possible to upload movies. There might be other free podcast services that are better, but in my opinion this is very easy. Ask me questions if you get stuck, but I guess it won't be hard to follow the steps. The start site is at http://www.podomatic.com/ Thanks Björn. No, not really a question - just venting frustrations really. The easy, easy, easy way is to just put some songs in a folder and upload it - like this short (4+ minutes) of five Mieko Shiomi Fluxus-related pieces: http://stasick.org/streams/fluxus.m3u which comes out of your QuickTime like clarified butter BUT, i picked up the new iLife 06 which has enhanced podcasting, so I thought, OK, great! I'll give *this* a try! You can have the audio coupled with visuals and you can provide links to websites etc... - hence: enhanced. It's even supposed to integrate with iWeb and blogging, and blah, blah, blah... BUT it's so buggy!...and definitely Beta! So, I may go ahead with the simple way (as above) and just tell what the tracks are. Hell, by now, I could've just audiocast the whole thing for three days straight and just told people to listen whenever they could. Anyway, onwards... R~

Re: FLUXLIST: M. A. N.
Aaahh nice! Just had to copy below text so you won't miss any goodies from that M.A.N. site... quote: Noise Music holds a intellectual philosophy of nihilism, chaos, self abuse, despair, and a rejection of natural law and delivers its demented message in the same style that a rock and roll act would use. It is a very deceptive trick that is aimed at corrupting our youth. These people are outspokenly hell bent on destroying our civilization and all that is good. In this post 9-11 world we cannot let this kind of evil continue, terrorism of every kind must be stopped! We must cleanse the earth of evil for the new world order to exist -degenerate ideas must be removed - or they will consume everyone into a pit of eternal suffering. We are the light and the way. We must fight smarter and harder than our enemies, we will bring truth were others only bring lies. end quote. A man died in the 911 attacks on the twin towers (a cop or fire fighter). His son (an extreme liberal) was asked to be on the Bill O'Reilly show ( a conservative talk show). So his son studied tapes of previous shows to figure out O'Rielly's strategy ... like the things he would say before cutting someone off and manipulating what they said and the way he delivered comments, as well as the amount of time he would let someone respond for. With all his studies he agreed to be on the show. He had worked out everything he would say and even timed how long it would take to say certain things. The show was a hit, O'reilly got all worked up and the son really upset him and took away his control until bill finally had to cut to a comercial and kick him out of the studio. The best part is that it was live and the son still got all of his liberal views out on the most conservative talk show on tv. study the show hard and you'll know what to do. the opportunity exists to do something extremely fun on national tv perhaps an opportunity not likely to fall into ones lap twice? Yes, the Jeremy Glick interview which had such gems as this: O'Reilly: I don't want to debate world politics with you. Glick: Well, why not? This IS about world politics. O'Reilly: Because, number one, I don't care what you think. Later, after the interview was forced to a close, O'Reilly gave Glick some fatherly advice, Get out of my studio before I tear you to fucking pieces! The next evening O'Reilly spewed a mouthful of lies and distortions about Glick's intentions - the cowardly way - without Glick being present to defend himself. I hate to be the turd in David's punchbowl, but even after you get thru the rules of the contract (that I'm sure have been carefully assembled - they have had their fill of people trying to get attention), and succeed in doing something outrageous, your actions, ultimately, become an empty statement. Somewhat like what we say here in Texas: it's lipstick on a pig. I think mIEKAL needs to ask himself if he really wants to be well known for something he did on television. I think that's the crux of the whole idea. Rod --- Now playing: Eric Dolphy - God Bless the Child

The blogger.com blogs have a really easy to use interface that also allows for colloborative processes as you can be different contributors on the same blog. The idea I am thinking of is to play the round-robin game on pictures (and text?). A bit like the good ole sound injury game. Not so many rules. Just work on what has been dropped into the blog. Add, modifye, cut, distort, whatever. Maybe start a new thread each month. Here is some reading on the Sound Injury from HarS soundblog http://www.harsmedia.com/SoundBlog/Archief/00534.php I can set up a blog for this purpose if any more thinks this would be an interesting idea.
