Re: single-sourcing PDF and text with layout?

2012-03-14 Thread Robert Lauriston
I don't think my tabs getting stripped out has anything to do with
MIF2Go. I think it's a bug in the old Word text-with-layout converter
I'm using. I changed all the autonumber formats to use spaces and it's
working fine.

paragraph spacing oddness

2012-03-14 Thread Robert Lauriston
I have three paragraph tags, heading 1, paragraph, and Note.

heading 1: Above Pgf: 14pt, Below Pgf: 14pt, Line Space: 14pt, Fixed

paragraph: Above Pgf: 14pt, Below Pgf: 14pt, Line Space: 14pt, Fixed

Note: Above Pgf: 14pt, Below Pgf: 0pt, Line Space: 14pt, Fixed

None of these tags has a frame above or below defined on the Advanced tab.

I get 14pt / one line between heading 1 and paragraph, two paragraphs,
note and paragraph, or paragraph and note.

! get 28pt / two lines between Note and heading 1. I was getting three
lines before I set Below Pgf to 0.

What else could be affecting vertical spacing between paragraphs?

Re: single-sourcing PDF and text with layout?

2012-03-14 Thread Robert Lauriston
For the record, FM10 MIF2Go RTF Word Save As Text with
Layout is working.

I created a second book for the text version since it has different
front matter. There's only one file in the book so I don't have to
combine output files. I pull in the text from the other book using a
text inset.

The Word text-with-layout converter seems to ignore tabs in Word
headings, so I replaced them with spaces in the FM autonumber
definitions.

Converter download:

http://www.gmayor.com/downloads.htm

Some tips on getting it to work with Word 2010:

Subject: Cannot print book PDFs from network drive

I recently received a computer with the following specs:

64 bit
Windows 7
1.36 TB Hard Drive (1.27 TB free space)
16.0 GB RAM
3.30 GHz Processor

Currently I am running FM 9 and Acrobat X Pro and I have discovered that I can
no longer create PDFs in FrameMaker.  I was able to get a PDF of a single file
once, but never a book PDF.  If I move the book to my local drive, I can create
book PDFs but I cannot do this from the network.  This was not an issue on my
32 bit machine (FrameMaker 9, Acrobat 8, Windows 7).

I have tried installing the FrameMaker 10 trial to see if that would solve the
issue.  I’ve also tried reverting back to Acrobat 8 and that didn’t solve the
issue either.  I’ve tried the “Save Book As”, “Save as PDF”, and the “Print
Book” methods.  None work.  I am not receiving any error messages, FrameMaker
just goes into a Not Responding state.

I do not have a problem creating PDFs from Word or any other programs on the
network.

Any ideas?

Re: paragraph spacing oddness

What else could be affecting vertical spacing between paragraphs?

A couple of places that come to mind for checking:

1. The settings in Format Page Layout Line Layout

2. If the paragraphs are in a table cell, the Cell Margins settings on
the Table Cell tab of the Paragraph Designer

Apologies if this has been asked before - I attempted to search the

I want to put my table footnotes in the last row of the table and I
can't see a good way to do it. Does anyone have a method? Thanks,

TocBreaker

2012-03-14 Thread Andy Lewis
Hi there,

CudSpan freeware has only been fully tested with FrameMaker versions up to
9.

The plugins should work with FrameMaker 10 but have not been tested with it.

Feel free to download the version 9 plugins from
http://ig5authoringtools.com/plugins/ and install with FrameMaker 10.

Best wishes,
Andy Lewis

Do TocBreaker and CudSpan work with FM10? I've used and appreciated both at
a client site.

Many thanks,

paragraph spacing oddness

2012-03-14 Thread Robert Lauriston
There are no extra paragraphs, trailing spaces at the end of
paragraphs, tables, or images in the document.

Format> Page Layout> Line Layout: nothing checked.

paragraph spacing oddness

2012-03-14 Thread Robert Lauriston
Experimenting, I set the Note tag to exactly match the paragraph tag
to exactly the same settings on all tabs of the Paragraph Designer
except for Numbering. They still don't behave the same.

There are no extra paragraphs, trailing spaces at the end of
paragraphs, tables, images, or format overrides in the document. (I
forgot to mention overrides in my last post.)

Format> Page Layout> Line Layout: nothing checked.

Washed via MIF, no improvement.

I guess I'll export to MIF and see if there are any clues in the code.

paragraph spacing oddness

2012-03-14 Thread Robert Lauriston
Aha. The extra lines were coming from three-point empty paragraphs.
Nothing to do with formatting except that somebody who worked on this
doc spent way too much time on it.

character tags vs. TOC links

2012-03-14 Thread Robert Lauriston
This template that I inherited uses a code character tag to make
commands in headings appear in monofont (Courier New).

The hypertext links on the TOC entries end at the first font change.
If the first word is default font and the second is code, or
vice-versa, only the first word is a link.

Is this a known bug? Is there a workaround?

Related question, did Shlomo move his definitive bug list or take it offline?
