Re: [Framers] Acrobat DC and ... (don't laugh)

2016-01-13 Thread Simon BUCH

Hello Lea [and FrameUsers]

Adobe FrameMaker 8, on Windows 8?
I think FM8 was only QA verified by Adobe on [32 bit] Windows 2000, XP,
and Vista.

Which Acrobat Distiller was installed? Was FrameMaker installed first?

Do any of the PDFs include transparency?
Does the workstation have a Microsoft "Security" suite installed?
such as ForeFront Security? Windows Defender AntiVirus?

I have seen multiple instances where the Microsoft suite of anti-virus
products is rather aggressive and fails to allow Adobe Acrobat to
distill any output that contains transparency areas in PDF documents.
My solution was easy. Add an exception to the AntiVirus suite to not
scan any processes named AcroDist.exe. One of my customer's IT
departments didn't like this workaround, so I recommended that they
change their antivirus suite. They quickly adopted the workaround.

[Framers] Has anyone received Adobe email "Just Launched: Adobe Tech Comm Product Survey 2015!"?

2016-01-13 Thread Simon BUCH

Dear Framers,

I was looking through my mailbox, when I happened to receive an email
entitled "Just Launched: Adobe Tech Comm Product Survey 2015!", from
techc...@adobemailers.com at Tue, 12 Jan 2016 02:35:07 +0530. Due to the
timezone and IP address of the email thread, I suspect this was sent
from India.

Has anyone received the same product survey?
Was Adobe meaning to send it?

Re: [Framers] Compiling books on to a CD/DVD

2016-01-13 Thread Carol J. Elkins
Tom, the way I do this is to make a splash screen containing a
graphic and create a PDF out of it. Then on that splash screen PDF
(in Acrobat), I create "buttons" for each publication on the disc and
link the button to the appropriate PDF.

When you burn the CD, you would have your splash screen PDF, the
various PDFs for your manuals, and two more files that cause the disc
to autorun:

autorun.inf which contains the following two lines, where
"welcome.pdf" is the name I assign my splash screen:

[autorun]
open=winopen \welcome.pdf

winopen.exe
(see http://www.duckware.com/winopen/index.html for information; I
can't remember what's in mine and I don't have time right now to
backtrack the research)

currently, a CD/DVD of each individually packaged in a CD/DVD book

Rather than just burning all of the manuals to disc, I'd like to
compile them onto a single disc with a cover file that opens when
the CD is inserted (if the user has autoplay enabled) and provides
links to each of the manuals on the CD. Is it possible to do this in
Acrobat (I have Acrobat XI Pro running on a 64-bit Windows 7
Enterprise SP1) or FrameMaker? All of the manuals that would be
burned to the CD also were created in FrameMaker 12.

[Framers] Compiling books on to a CD/DVD

[Framers] Win7 versus Win10 with FM2015 as of January 2016

2016-01-13 Thread kou...@kouroo.info
Dell delivered a new workstation with Win7 as I had experienced a bad Windows
OS failure. Fortunately all data is backed up but I need to upgrade to the
latest FM and Acrobat pro. Booting, they lied as the machine actually is loaded
with Win10. What to do? Would it be prudent as of January 2016 to "bite the
bullet" and load FM2015 on Win10, or would it be more prudent to demand that
Dell provide me with a Win7 CD boot disk before loading FM2015?

Re: [Framers] Win7 versus Win10 with FM2015 as of January 2016

2016-01-13 Thread Keith Soltys
I'd go with Windows 10.

At home, I am still using Windows 8.1 with a third-party start menu add-on and
I much prefer it to Windows 7, which I have at work. From what I've read,
Windows 10 gets rid of most of the annoyances around Microsoft's new "Modern"
interface stuff and I plan to upgrade as soon as I can find some time to do
backups and the like.

Regards
Keith

Yeah, I got it too. Maybe they meant to send the announcement of who won?

Has anyone received the same product survey?
Was Adobe meaning to send it?

How about trying "Print to File" and then double-clicking the postscript file?

Hi,

I've run into odd behavior since installing Acrobat DC. For various reasons, I
have DC and Framemaker 8 that I'm trying to make work together. Save as PDF
works fine, and blessedly has the Bookmarks I need. However, when I try to
print to PDF, I get all the printing progress bars, but the PDF itself never
shows up. (I have Prompt for Filename enabled, and I never get the prompt.)

It's not a deal-breaker since Save As does what I need. I'm just curious
whether I've done something wrong or if I'm expecting too much from softwares
about a decade apart.

Thanks,

Re: [Framers] Acrobat DC and ... (don't laugh)

2016-01-13 Thread Carol J. Elkins
Lea, when you printed to file, did you remember to put a check in the
"Generate Acrobat Data" box? Also, are you invoking the print command
from the file or from the book? If the print settings are different
in the file versus the book, then the PDF output can be different.
