I just downloaded Rick's new ImportSelectedFormats script this morning and have used it multiple times already. [Framers] Cross reference to test in a running header/footer populated using <$marker3>
Using unstructured FrameMaker. On the master page footer I've put in Running H/F 13 and on body page use <$marker3> to put an ATA number in this location. I also have another location (hidden text) on the body page that I want this ATA number to appear. I use this text to help create the PDF bookmarks. Is there a way to cross reference to the text in <$marker3>? Re: [Framers] FrameMaker 2017 and Visio Graphics
Thank you for your replies. This is my first time having to work with a graphic format I couldn't reference or not having any control over the format. Thank you to all who replied to my question about making a Part Number row repeat at the top of a column when the following reference rows broke at the end of a column. [Framers] FM 2017 Columns and Continued Lines
I work in Unstructured FrameMaker 2017 and have no background with scripting or automating tasks. There may not be a simple solution, but figured it couldn't hurt to ask. I have a file I've imported from Word that contains a Part Number and then a list of chapter references for the part. The part number and chapter reference each have their own paragraph tag. The page is set up as 3 columns and whenever the chapter references break over to a new column the client wants the part number repeated with (CONT) added. The file I'm working on is 60 pages long and I have an additional file approx same size yet to do. I can set it up manually, but would have to redo everytime something is added or deleted to the file. Is there any automated way of making this happen or is manually the only solution? [Framers] PDF Bookmarks
The way I work around this is to type the text in FrameMaker the way I want it to look in the PDF bookmark. Then I use a style to have it look the way I want in Framemaker. However, I really like the idea of Rick's script for post processing in Acrobat, especially if the text is all in so you don't have to take the time to go back and reformat. Also, I'm working in unstructured so it might not work the same in structured. Julie A. [Framers] FrameMaker Data in Footer
I am using 2017 unstructured FrameMaker to produce an Aircraft Maintenance Manual Supplement which is currently in Word. At the bottom of each page needs to be an ATA number, page #, revision # & date, and effectivity code. I initially set these up as running headers on the master page and used markers on the body page to fill in the information. However, I would like to use this information to run a TOC and LEP, but seem unable to when text frames are on the master pages. Could some one suggest a productive and efficient way to set up this type of a scenario? I've been using unstructured Framemaker for 10 years but these aviation manuals I've recently been tasked with (AMM, IPC, etc.) are more complex than the internal procedures manuals I've been doing and would appreciate any suggestions. Re: [Framers] Transfer from FrameMaker into Word
Kevin is right that the Save to Word option from FrameMaker is not a good idea. Since I often need to provide Word files for various people to edit, we invest in a subscription to Adobe PDF Services (about $25 a year). I produce a PDF file and then use this online service to produce a Word file. Seems to work pretty good and haven't had any complaints about the resulting Word files. I've also used this service to convert PDFs to Excel with good results. Julie A. (I'm still on Frame 12) Is this possible? Does it result in a usable doc (ie, is the formatting decent?) I was at a job interview today and it sounds like they could really use the Conditional aspects of Frame in order to deliver various flavours of the same manuals. However, they have done without a tech writer for a while and like the fact that their engineers can simply go into a Word doc and make changes themselves. I thought they might try exporting to Word so the engineers could (with Track Changes on) make edits in Word. Then the new tech writer - preferably me ;-))) - could incorporate those changes into the Frame docs.
