help. Anyone else?

It has been restored and please resume using it to report FrameMaker

messages to fmer...@adobe.com bounce

2013-03-28 Thread Suzanne Bolduc
hi,

would someone know what happens with the e-mail alias
fmerror@adobe.comlately? When FM crashed earlier this week I tried
sending the log file as I
normally do but this time it bounced. I tried resending again, and tried a
couple more times over the last days, to no avail.

the Delivery Failure Report tells me that my message
was not delivered to:fmer...@adobe.com
because:550 No such user - psmtp

I know I was still able to send log files to this address in January.

I found forum posts about a similar issue with an Adobe e-mail alias for a
different product, but that problem had reportedly been resolved at some
point.

is Adobe experiencing problems with their e-mail servers? or are these
aliases being retired?

thanks,
Suzanne

Ctrl key issues

2009-11-28 Thread Suzanne Bolduc
hi Corinne,
do you happen to have alternate keyboard layouts configured on your system,
other than the basic English (United States)? I have a few and I found that the
one I use most often ? a customized version of the French (Canada) layout that
includes Unicode characters (i.e. Esperanto's accented letters) ? interferes
with the keyboard shortcuts *in FrameMaker only*. Soon after installing this
keyboard layout, I realized I could not use Ctrl+Shift+V in FrameMaker anymore
(nothing happens). At first I thought I would have to uninstall this custom
layout and do without it, but then it dawned on me that I might as well just
switch to English (Canada) by pressing Left Alt + Shift, the first time I need
the shortcuts in FM.
(I just cannot use FrameMaker to write in Esperanto.)

all this to say... could it be that your Ctrl keys stop working as soon as,
somehow, you pressed Left Alt + Shift (unknowingly)? Maybe check your Regional
Options control panel, the text services configured on your system, and the
language bar preferences... See if just pressing Left Alt + Shift once or twice
could revive your Ctrl keys...

it could also be something else... For instance, when I was using Remote
Desktop Connection to acces a computer at work from my home computer, I would
always end up losing both the Ctrl keys and the Shift keys at some point.
Sometimes, just repeatedly going Left Ctrl, Right Ctrl a few times, and then
Left Shift, Right Shift a few more times would revive the lost keys.
(Appartently this was a known issue with Remote Desktop, at least at the time.)

Re: redirecting all cross-ref'ed fm fm files to the home folder

2009-02-01 Thread Suzanne Bolduc
hello Wei Jiang,

if you can ask your client, and if the flat structure is ok for him, he could
use Bruce Foster's Archive plug-in and send you the file set again:

http://home.comcast.net/~bruce.foster/Archive.htm
Archive is a shareware plugin for FrameMaker that copies a book to an archive
directory and gathers all documents, referenced graphics, and text insets for
that book into the archive directory. All references in the archived book are
relative and point to documents, graphics, and text insets under the archive
directory.

s.
ps. your anti-spam system appears to be somewhat oversensitive (got this
auto-reply after attempting to send you the above directly: The message you
sent requires that you verify that you are a real live human being and not a
spam source.)

He had sent me the package in a flat zip file, ie, without the original
tree structure. My question is, is there a quick way to update all the
broken cross-ref links with all the files in one single folder?

Re: hypertext marker location in generated index

2009-01-31 Thread Suzanne Bolduc
Hello Shlomo,

That's what it was! There was a character format in front of the
$pagenum building block on the reference page, and it served no
purpose (applying a font that should have been specified in the
IndexIX paragraph format to start with). Now my page numbers and the
line of dots leading to the first one are clickable at last. This
feels much better, thank you very much.

However I notice that the index terms themselves are still not
clickable, which seems to indicate that the active area only expands
to the right of the hypertext marker after all -- unless I missed
something else.

Thank you again. :)

hypertext marker location in generated index

2009-01-28 Thread Suzanne Bolduc
hi!

I'm editing a manual in unstructured FM 7.2 and until recently I was
under the impression that someone forgot to set up the index to make
its entries clickable.

however I came to realize that, in the generated TOC, the hypertext
markers are located at the start of each line, and you can click
anywhere on the line to access the related content, whereas, in the
generated index, the markers appear *after* the associated entry, and
the clickable area does exist but it is very small (it is limited to
the exact location of the marker).

e.g. in the TOC:
TFeatures and
Benefits..2
vs. in the IX
BenefitsT.2
(where T is the marker, stands for a tab)

when there are more pages, there is a marker before each subsequent
page number, but again the clickable area is very limited: only the
space just before the page number is clickable...
e.g.
BenefitsT.2,T9,T101
(this part is more mysterious to me -- I expected that the whole page
number would be clickable since the marker is located *before* the
number.)

Is this normal? Would someone know of a solution? Would using IXGen or
some other indexing tool help?
(I scoured the FM online help to no avail... Google wasn't helpful
either, and neither was Adobe's knowledge base -- I must be missing
something...)
