Revision marks (bars)
I would really like to make the use of revision bars to indicate changes made to a document that I am working on. I am aware of automatic change bars. I don't think this is the best option because it indicates all changes with a revision bar. I would like to be able to handle which "revisions" get highlighted as a change. I seem to recall the use of character tag or something along those lines but that method seemed to have some drawbacks. The criteria that is most important to me is being able to remove the revisions marks when going from version 2 to 3 so that the next set of revision marks only indicates the changes in version 3 and not versions 2 and 3. Has someone developed a "bulletproof" process or methodology for handling revisions to documents? K. Grace
PDF incorporation into Documentation Set
I was wondering if anyone ever needed to incorporate a pdf into a documentation set. There is another department that is in control of a few documents. I would like to be able to incorporate that latest version of their documents when I generate my sets. Is there anyway to incorporate this "foreign document" into my workflow? Thanks in advance. K. Index with Dates?
Is it possible to have framemaker create an index that sorts based on dates? I would like to be able to do this for the purpose of keeping track of revisions being made to a set of procedures that I am working on. In a perfect world I would be able to create something like: 2010 01 25 Procedure 1 Procedure 2 2009 12 24 Procedure 3 Procedure 4 I can get the procedures to sort properly based on the numbers but I don't see how I would be able to change the Group Titles. If someone has a better solution for being able to provide a mechanism for recording the revisions to a procedure i.e., Rev. 1 : Removed references to Fig 2. and updated weight of tank contents - Change made by Peter Cottontale. 12/24/2009. I am really trying to avoid doing this via a database because of the issues with managing the data eg., if the user changes the titles it has to be updated in the database. I really think that using cross- references for this is a better solution. Any suggestions are appreciated. K. Grace
Printing PDF from Framemaker
I have book (e.g., book.bk) with files (Ch1.fm, Ch2.fm, Ch3.fm,Ch4.fm) that I would like to print as pdf files. I would like a book.pdf (all chapter files combined in one file) and Ch1.pdf, Ch2.pdf, Ch3.pdf and Ch4.pdf. Printing the book.pdf file can be accomplished with the setting of "Print Book As: Single Print Job". I would like now create the individual chapter pdf files in some sort of automated fashion. When I change to the setting of "Print Book As: Single Print Job" I am prompted to name each file and location. Is there a way to make the selection and have the file name be that of the .fm file and not a combination of the book and chapter file name by default. To further this it would be real nice if this could be accomplished in silent mode i.e., I am not bother with the naming of the individual files. In reality there are many more files and over time this is going to be a pain. Any ideas on streamlining this workflow? Grace
Conditional Text used within a table with endnotes.
I have a table that consists of multiple rows. Each row of the table represents a specific condition. I currently have endnotes that appear at the end of the table. The first instance of each endnote is added via Special > Endnote, there after I insert a cross-reference if . It should be noted that I want each "letter" to represent a different occurance of the end noted item. The problem that I am having is that when I turn the certain conditions off i.e., the instance that "defined" the endnote may or may not be included in the resulting document with conditions applied. I am sure I could remedy this via a separate table for each condition but that would mean more work trying to maintain the multiple tables. If for example I need to add another colum in the future I would have to do it for each table. The other option I considered is making a separarate set of endnotes for each condition. The downside of that is that if all of the endnotes labeled "2" needed to be updated I would have to go through them manually and fix them. I have tried the update references but it does not allow for starting or adjusting the numbering for those end notes that are not needed due to the conditions eliminating them. Sample Table CondtionA 1 ConditionA 2 ConditionA 1 ConditionB 2 ConditionC 1 1 This is endnote 1 2 This is endnote 2 I get : ConditionB 2 2 This is endnote 2 Not: ConditionB 1 (This was 2 but since 1 is not used as a condition it should be adjusted to 1 1 This is endnote 1 (This is actually the text for 2 but reads 1 since it is the first condition.
Import external file by reference
Does anyone know of a way that I can "link" or "attach" a pdf or word file to my framemaker file. The "other" file that I would like to link or attach is output that is being created at random, by another person. I would like to have them output their file to a common file location and when I open my framemaker file I want to pull in the latest version of their word or *.pdf file. To make this even more challenging is the fact that the document they are creating is a multipage document which I dont see how to work with.
Printing PDF book to separate files
I was wondering if anyone knows how to control the output file names of files that are printed when you select the option to print to "Separate Print job for Each Document". I have a book with over 30 files ( more on the way) and by default I am prompted to save the file as XYZ.Book(Chapterfilename.pdf). As you might imagine this can get to be tedious if this has to be performed each time I update the book. I would ideally like to be able to have it print to the individual files without my interaction and automatically giving the output pdf file the name of the respective chapter file. In this example the file would automatically name the file "chapterfilename.pdf". Does anyone have any ideas on achieving this goal?
Paragraph Numbering
I wanted to check with the newsgroup and see if anyone could assist me with a numbering issue that I have. I would like to have paragraphs numbered as follows: 10.020 Apple 10.020.1 l;kfjkf;jl 10.020.2 fdjklfjklfl;fdklj;djlkklj;lk;jboaniiesuijnuifnlik 10.030 Orange 10.030.1 l;kfjkf;jl 10.030.2 fdjklfjklfl;fdklj;djlkklj;lk;jboaniiesuijnuifnlik 10.045 Orange 10.045.1 l;kfjkf;jl 10.045.2 fdjklfjklfl;fdklj;djlkklj;lk;jboaniiesuijnuifnlik As you can see their are two things that I dont know how to do. 1. Make numbers increment by variable increments 2. Make the sub numbers ( 10.030.1 and 10.030.2) increment by one when using the first number as a "base or root" 10.030 and 10.045 Any help would be greatly appreciated. Check out the new AOL. Calendar
I realize this is off topic but I am sure that members of this group may have run across calendar software. I recently purchased a digital camera and I was wondering if there was some software that would allow me to produce an oversized professional calendar e.g., each page being 11x17.
