[Frameworks] 'oxide' E165
Hi all, I thought that i'd let the framework community know that my film performance work 'oxide ii +iii' has been released as new work 'oxide' on DVD through editions entr'acte Belgium. Oxide was the resultant work developed from my 6 month residency at no.w.here labs London (2011). The piece is a process lead work of growing rust on outdated unexposed camera/print stock, growing a sound base on the image track that is recorded and manilpulated as a live sound to the film. This DVD the single screen version of its original dual screen 6 projector work with live sound, here re-edited mastered as a new piece. In the meantime, the original film stock is continuing to rust up. You can read more about it on the entracte website here: http://entracte.co.uk/projects/ben-gwilliam-e165/ With this being my first Image-based release (since everything else previous has been audio only), I am trying to gather suggestions of outlets that specialise more in film video that may distribute it, as entracte mainly works with european/asian music distributors. [Frameworks] CTC Screening TONIGHT Monday August 11th
Frameworkers, Good afternoon (EST), Tonight, MONO NO AWARE will be hosting Brendan and Jeremy Smyth and projecting a program of recent work entitled IDEAL OF REALITY as part of the Connectivity Through Cinema screening series. More information here: http://mononoawarefilm.com/connectivity-through-cinema-with-brendan-jeremy-smyth-in-person/ And the Facebook invite for those involved with social media : https://www.facebook.com/events/273348146187803/?ref=notifnotif_t=plan_user_joined As the one film was shot on 16mm in Indonesia, we'll be serving a special Indonesian drink Secang, made from Lemongrass, Ginger, Cinnamon, and Agave. If you are in the greater Brooklyn area, I hope that you can join us this evening at 361 Manhattan Avenue. Best, Steve CossmanFounder / Director MONO NO AWARE Inspired by the stories of their restaurant co-workers, the films in this program focus on struggling families whose financial strain takes seed in Gainesville, Florida. Where other filmmakers use the camera like a human eye, the Smyth Brothers relinquish their own optical functions to the turret, lens and shutter of the Bolex. Exhibiting skills as anthropologists, explorers and craftsmen, the BlackSmyth films create a beautifully freeing reality within a thoughtful frame. -- Steve Cossman, Director MONO NO AWARE. Re: [Frameworks] PHD programs
Szervusz Dorottya, My department here in Buffalo has a new PhD program; we are just now beginning to graduate our first flock of PhD's! Please take a look at our PhD description here: http://mediastudy.buffalo.edu/programs/graduate/phd-in-media-study/ But also, take a look at what our Department of Media Study is all about: http://mediastudy.buffalo.edu/ We are a pretty small department in the largest university of the New York State university system. (You can study almost anything here!) Our department tradition is strongly oriented toward a progressive understanding of media art, so we incorporate increasing amounts of IT along with a continuing affection for alternative video and film. I'd be happy to hear any questions you might have! [Frameworks] Standish Lawder Runaway
Hi all - If you're interested, I've written something about my experience picking up Standish Lawder's films in 2007, prompted by the arrival of the rest of his film elements today from his daughter (and the discovery of one element in particular). http://preservationinsanity.blogspot.com/ Mark T ___ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks
Re: [Frameworks] Standish Lawder Runaway
Thanks Mark, That's a very nice blog post. I met Standish a couple of years ago on his trip to Osnabruck and Paris and we became good friends. He stayed in my place, and he sold me a good print of Corridor at that time. We stayed in touch and planned to release a DVD of his films together, but he soon became disorganized in his thoughts as some dementia set in and he moved to California. It was great to revisit him a little in your post. My only criticism is that it's hard to read white text on a black background (Jonas would really take you to task for that). So I'm seeing lines everywhere in my head now. [Frameworks] Free industrial films
Don't get too excited. Several months ago I bought a pile of mechanical engineering films from a collector, and they've been sitting around collecting dust ever since. They're all in rusty old cans and some (but not all) have developed Vinegar Syndrome (I won't include any that seem severe, most are still totally projectable/fine). Mostly from the 40s/50s with beautiful contrast. Most are quite boring. I'm keeping one or two, but I really don't need this stuff and I can't bear to throw it away. Hence, free. Maybe you can repurpose this material and make art. Maybe you can watch it with your friends. Maybe it can collect dust in YOUR home or archive now. My hope is that someone will take it and do something creative with it. Maybe teach 12 year olds how to use a splicer. But either way: free. There are about 25 reels, 800-1200' each. Shipping is NOT free but should be cheap enough via Media Mail or you pick up in Chicago. I can toss the cans so the box won't weigh too much, if you wish. Some examples of titles, some have to do with boating, which may be interesting: PLAIN INDEXING AND CUTTING A SPUR ROUGH FACING TURNING DRILLING ROUGH FACING AND BORING AND TURNING A SHOULDER FACING, TURNING, BORING, GROOVING, AND CHAMFERING PREPARING AND SETTING KEEL BLOCKS + CRADLE thanks!
