[Frameworks] Call for Entries: Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival 2015

2014-11-12 Thread Richard Ashrowan
Call for Entries: Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival 2015
Deadline for submissions: midnight 30th November 2014

Hawick, Scotland
www.alchemyfilmfestival.org.uk

Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival is an international festival of
experimental film and artists’ moving image. Submissions of artists’ and
experimental film from any part of the world are welcome - we celebrate a
diverse range of works: the visually experimental, quietly poetic, formally
radical, psycho-geographical, politically activist, culturally subversive,
psycho-spiritual, the alchemically volatile, the underground and bizarre.

The next festival will take place over four days, April 16th-19th 2015, in
Hawick, in the Scottish Borders region of Scotland.

Theme
Our 2015 theme is the ‘Spiritus Mundi’. We accept submissions of works related
to any subject area, though this year we are especially interested in works
that may relate to the ‘Spiritus Mundi’, a historical term for the ‘World Soul’
or ‘Spirit of the World’. This is perhaps something we all unwittingly search
for, denoting a spirit of inquiry into the deep nature of substance, of film,
of luminosity and shadow, of meaning and life. It relates to a spirit of
universality and internationalism – that which underlies both our common
humanity and the structures of all natural phenomena. It means our
cultural-political Zietgeist too, the ‘spirit of the age’, and every bit as
ghostly, mutable and ephemeral.

Submissions
Deadline for submissions: midnight 30th November 2014. You will be notified by
30th January 2015.

We accept submissions direct through our Website or through FilmFreeway.
http://www.alchemyfilmfestival.org.uk/2013/2015-film-submissions/
https://filmfreeway.com/festival/AlchemyFilmFestival

Please read the full Terms of Entry:
http://www.alchemyfilmfestival.org.uk/2014/terms-of-entry/

There is a £5 entry fee (approx $8 / €6), or $9 if using FilmFreeway.

I agree with George.
Analog means a direct, analog, value (optical, electro-acoustic, ... )

Analog has other meanings unrelated to a signal.

Dear Matt,
Just wanted you to know that film is not analog.
Analog describes a signal, such as an audio or video signal; it is the
opposite of a digital signal.
Film is a discrete frame by frame medium, not a signal, so it is neither
analog nor digital.
It is just film.

Check out

Assembled by Becka Barker
she manually cut super 8 frame holes into 35mm film, and spliced in the super 8
frames into the 35mm film, frame by frame, and then scratched animation around
on the remaining 35mm film frames.

She recently completed a more digital project involving 3-D projection on a
sphere called map-of-the-world, where she had people draw maps of the world
from memory and then animated them all together, you could walk all the way
around the sphere and watch the map of the world shift an morph as she animated
people's remembered and imagined maps sequentially. that was also quite
beautiful! hard to show in a class though, and i don't know if there is
documentation.

It's beautiful!

I believe Acrometals can still make you new daylight spools but when I talked
to them, they had a minimum order of several thousand.

Labs seldom give them up when they arrive they are in some demand.

Precision Microproducts will sell you a plastic solid flange reel.
http://www.p-m-a.com/supplies/supply%20index.html and I believe these will
work in the Arri cameras although I have not tried one in the Eyemos. They
will require loading the camera in the darkroom, though.

[Frameworks] Fwd: Our Souls Are Palestinian / Crawford Art Gallery / Saturday 15th / 2pm

2014-11-12 Thread Experimental Film Club
To those of you who will be in Cork this weekend for the festival, I hope
that you can make this very unique screening of artists films about
Palestine,

Aoife

   *Our Souls are Palestinian*

Saturday 15th November | 1400 | Free and Unticketed | Crawford Art Gallery

This programme of short artist’s film works looks at Palestine from various
perspectives – external, embedded and provocative. Each of the filmmakers
go beyond mainstream media representations of Palestine to interrogate the
emotional and political landscape through uncanny juxtaposition of image
and text. This screening will be followed by a panel discussion about film
media and the current situation in Palestine including Laurence Davis (Dept
of Government UCC), Rola Abu Zeid O’Neill (Dept of Sociology UCC), Harry
Browne (School of Media DIT) and Francesco Mattuzzi (co-director of Future
Archaeology). Curated and chaired by artist/filmmaker Aoife Desmond.

Short Films Screening:

*They Do Not Exist (Laysa Iahum Wigid) *
Shooting under extraordinary conditions, the director, who worked with
Godard on his Ici et Ailleurs (Here and Elsewhere), and founded the PLO’s
film division, covers conditions in Lebanon’s refugee camps, the effects of
Israeli bombardments, and the lives of guerrillas in training camps.

*The Story of Milk and Honey*The Story of Milk and Honey is a short
experimental video belonging to a larger project, which includes
photographs, drawings and text, detailing an un-named individual’s failure
to write a love story.

*Story of I and Other Suggestive Landscapes*

**“Story of I and other Suggestive Landscapes” is about journey that I
used to make on regular basis, from 2011to 2013 between: Ramallah and
Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

*Dirty Pictures (Hotel Diaries #7)*

**Moving from one hotel in Bethlehem to another in East Jerusalem, the
filmmaker encounters a series of problems involving a ceiling, a video
camera and the Israeli occupation of Palestine.

*Future Archeology*

**The project of a 3D [stereoscopic] film by Armin Linke and Francesco
Mattuzzi, completed with the visual effects created by Francesco Siddi,
refers to the 19th century invention of the stereoscopic technology, that
was developed exactly for archaeological and military purposes.

[Frameworks] 35mm Fuji print stock for sale!

2014-11-12 Thread Cherry Kino
Hi all!

I have 2 x 610m cans of Fujicolor Print Stock (FCP) in 35mm for sale as I'm
downsizing to emigrate!

I'm asking for £120 for one or £200 for both. I got them from Film Lab North
when it closed down in 2009 from their cold film store, and I've kept them cool
ever since in my dark room. They are unopened.

If you want both, buy via eBay (link below!) and if you'd like just one, email
me so I can amend the eBay listings.

I'd like to see them find a good home!

 Check out

 Assembled by Becka Barker
she manually cut super 8 frame holes into 35mm film, and spliced in the
super 8 frames into the 35mm film, frame by frame, and then scratched
animation around on the remaining 35mm film frames.

She recently completed a more digital project involving 3-D projection on
a sphere called map-of-the-world, where she had people draw maps of the
world from memory and then animated them all together, you could walk all
the way around the sphere and watch the map of the world shift an morph as
she animated people's remembered and imagined maps sequentially. that was
also quite beautiful! hard to show in a class though, and i don't know if
 there is documentation.

 It's beautiful!
