Nicolas Rey shot his three-hour travel feature
"Les Soviets Plus l'Electricité" on Sviema
super-8 stock. The film includes a visit to the
Sviema factory in Kiev where he was able to wrest
the developing formula from Vladimir Ivanovitch.
He hand-developed all the rolls back in Paris.
This was color stock by the way.

[Frameworks] Researching films that use footage from Other Cinema archive

2017-03-08 Thread INCITE Journal of Experimental Media
Dear Frame Workers,

I'm currently gathering info on works that use footage from Craig Baldwin's
Other Cinema collection. If this applies to anything that you've made, or
are aware of, please send the following info (on-list on off):

Film title, artist, year, format, brief description.

This research is part of a larger project exploring Other Cinema as an
archive and an anti-archive & creative workshop, which will be the basis
for a forthcoming essay (and maybe more).

Thanks!

[Frameworks] 35mm rem-jet removal + spool down

2017-03-08 Thread Peter Bo Rappmund
Hi All,

Looking for help to remove the rem-jet backing from a 400' roll of 35mm
Kodak motion picture film, and spooling down to 35mm stills canisters. End
result would be something like what these folks do:

https://cinestillfilm.com/

...if anyone is interested I can provide the empty stills canisters, and
will be happy to give you a 400' roll of 35mm motion picture Kodak film of
your choosing as payment, or cash.

Thanks,

Peter

[Frameworks] Pageant lenses for "Empire" screening

We are looking to borrow/rent for a pair of matched 1"-1.5" lenses for a
Pageant projectors for screening of Warhol's compete *Empire * at Exploded
View Microcinema in Tucson on April 29. A generous patron is sponsoring the
print rental for this screening and this show will be a benefit fundraiser
for Exploded View as we are finishing up our 4th year of experimental
film/music programing in Tucson. We obviously want to do this a cross-over
projection w/ 2 projectors. We have a line on 2 teleconverters, but
wondered if anyone on Frameworks has 2 identical fast wide lenses that we
could use for this special occasion.

Thanks, David

Re: [Frameworks] orwo un54/n74 dev as Negative

2017-03-08 Thread Scott Dorsey
Rodinol is always going to give much much grainier results than a fine-grain
developer like D-76 or a developer with a silver solvent like Microdol-X.

But, Rodinol is also going to give you much better separation in highlights.
It's not very compensating, but it will stretch the head of the curve enough
that you'll see some compensation and highlights won't block up as easily
as they would with a D-76.

You could try adding additional sulfite to Rodinol to reduce grain at the
expense of film speed; the sulfite will act as a silver solvent and feather
the edges of the grains so they aren't as well-defined. Microdol-X uses
thiocyanate for that, but thiocyanate is very touchy about concentration
and finding the precise amount you want will be difficult, whereas adding
sulfite will have much less dramatic effects.

Re: [Frameworks] orwo un54/n74 dev as Negative

2017-03-08 Thread Chris G
In a Lomo tank I've done UN54 as negative with the Adox Rodinal remake in a
1:50 dilution for 10 min development time at 20c. I got this time from the
massive development chart. For the same formula and temp the massive dev chart
says 13' for UN74 at 400 ISO. Not sure if Rodinal would be ideal for the faster
emulsion. Hope this helps!
