Thanks to everyone who has responded to my post about gear for sale.

Unfortunately our move has taken more time and energy than we expected so it's
been difficult to put together a complete inventory, esp. of the smaller items
that many of you are interested in (plus we keep finding new things as we clear
out storage). Please remain patient and I will send a list out to all who
inquired once we're back up and running.

We do have several large items that may be of interest to those in the NYC
area. We'd prefer not moving them, so there is a time factor involved:

MAG DUBBERS/MAGNETIC FILM RECORDERS

RANGERTONE 16/35MM offers PICK-UP
MTM 35MMoffers PICK-UP
MTM 16MMoffers PICK-UP
MAGNASYNC/MOVIOLA 16/35MM offers PICK-UP
MAGNASYNC/MOVIOLA 16/35MM offers PICK-UP

MIXING CONSOLES

TAC SCORPION (AMEK) 26X12X2 offers PICK-UP

YAMAHA 02R96

If you're interested, please put the item name in the email subject and contact
me off list. Or call.

Re: [Frameworks] Constructing A Foley / Sound Studio

2014-11-11 Thread Bill Seery
Matt

I'm wondering what you consider to be a foley studio? From what you describe it
sounds like you are planning an isolation booth (or two).

A real foley studio is a larger, soundproof room that typically has a floor or
pit with removable sections of flooring that expose different surfaces
(concrete, sand, dirt, linoleum etc) to primarily record walking, that can be
adapted for other uses. There is often a wall of closets containing a large
variety of props that can be used for creating sound effects.

Having had a facility with a foley floor I can tell you from experience that it
is a fun thing, and foley artists can be truly amazing to watch, but the
reality is that with today's budgets and workflow it is a space that is
generally underutilized (outside of Hollywood productions). Most sound design
these days is assembled on DAWs from a combination of stock and custom SFX
libraries, supplemented by the creativity of the sound designer using props in
the studio.

that can be purchased and constructed up to renovating the space into a
 proper two room foley studio.

I'm curious what other programs have constructed to meet foley and
recording studio needs. We'd like to construct something beyond applying
 sound-proofing to the walls!

Re: [Frameworks] Data Recovery

2012-02-25 Thread Bill Seery
Before sending it to anyone, I would crack the case and try mounting it
internally or buy an inexpensive enclosure or SATA (if it is SATA) dock and see
if it spins up. I have had external drives actually go on fire and have been
able to recover them. It's usually the power supply or interface that goes,
though drive failures can occur. There can also be issues with corrupt
directories that can be resolved with software.

If you can get it to spin but can't get it to mount try Data Rescue II if
you're on a Mac. I've had good luck with it. You can try it for free to see
what it can recovery and then purchase it. You'll need a second drive to copy
recovered files to. I would stay away from any software that tries to fix the
drive like Norton or Diskwarrior.

Best of Luck
