I've narrowed my search for a prosumer video camera down to the following
four. I'd appreciate any and all feedback. My primary criteria is for the
image to be as 'cinema-like' as possible. I'm not interested in DSLR(!), and
understand that there are more expensive digital cinema cameras, but these
four fall within my price range:

There are a lot! Here are a few:
Interview by Caroline Leaf and Veronica Soul
A Conversation with Haris and Faith and Patience among others, by Sheila
Sofian
Confessions of a Star Dreamer by John Canemaker
Cockaboody and Moonbird by John and Faith Hubley

You might look at Annabelle Honess Roe's book Animated Documentary (Palgrave

My personal favorite are the Hubley's Everbody Rides The Carousel, which
might be scripted, but often feels like recorded conversations.

This is a great thread.

I once did some shows on animated docs, and I would say that many have
animation set to recorded speech/conversation/interview. “Waltz With

has been done since then, and many of the films have already been

Fallen.” Definitely look at “Slaves” and “Hidden” by David Aronowitsch and
Hanna Heilborn, “Backseat Bingo” by Liz Blazer, and “Never like the First
 Time” by Jonas Odell.

Here were the contents of these shows, but some of these don’t fit your

 This is a great thread.

I once did some shows on animated docs, and I would say that many have
animation set to recorded speech/conversation/interview. “Waltz With
Bashir” does this on the feature level. This was a few years ago, and much
has been done since then, and many of the films have already been
mentioned. Sheila Sofian has a new film, by the way, called “Truth Is
Fallen.” Definitely look at “Slaves” and “Hidden” by David Aronowitsch and
Hanna Heilborn, “Backseat Bingo” by Liz Blazer, and “Never like the First
 Time” by Jonas Odell.
