2000-08-28 Thread Yevmenkin, Maksim N, CSCIO

Up until this weekend, I was able to use the staroffice52 port with
little problem (I had installed it earlier without benefit of the port
and it worked fine.) I did a 5.0-current kernel rebuild on
 Thursday with
sources current on that day and things were fine. When I rebuilt my
kernel yesterday afternoon with sources from Saturday
 morning, the port
stopped working. I get the following error messages

 I18N: X Window System doesn't support locale "C"
 _X11TransSocketOpen: socket() failed for local
_X11TransSocketOpenCOTSClient: Unable to open socket for local
_X11TransOpen: transport open failed for local/dinolt1.bingdrive:0
 setup.bin: cannot open display ":0.0"
Please check your "DISPLAY" environment variable, as well as the
permissions to access that display (See "man X" resp. "man xhost" for
 details)

same here :( i got original Sun CD with StartOffice 5.1a and tried to
install it. it failed. i used

# make WITH_CDROM=yes USE_CDROM=yes install

and everything was fine, but then i got exactly the same error.
XFree86-3.3.6 and XFree86-contrib-3.3.6 both working just fine.
``xhost +'' did not resolve the problem.

thanks,

I am running the install as root. The Window Manager is up and running,
other programs including linux-netscape have no trouble running in the
same environment. This is not a clue for me, but it may mean something
to others. (By the way, these errors did not appear prior to the
changes.)

I was wondering whether the setrlimit changes had something to do with
this. This seems to be the major change to the linux code in the last
few days. Apparently you were the one to make those changes, so I am
writing to you (Marcel)

Anyway, thought someone should know.

Usually when you're missing some lib, the program wouldn't start at all.
It could be that you have some incompatible version of the libs, though...
but overall it looks to me like screwed up installation of linux_base
port. Try the standard IT solution: reinstall linux_base.

I cannot swear (or attest) to this, but I recall there being
a problem with the realtime threads and SMP... am I off-base?
I thought that StarOffice was hosed on dual processor kernels
(or at least the installation). Someone posted awhile back about
doing the install on a UP kernel and then rebooting SMP...

 will try.

nope. made non-smp kernel by commenting out

options NCPU=2 # number of CPUs

I have and its quite good, but it hangs occasionally..
The actual 'officey' stuff is quite good tho (ie WP, spreadsheet etc..)

What problems are you having?

I was unable to install it. It complains about not being able to copy
'setup.zip' to '/tmp/sv001.tmp' and keeps bombing out. This is after
pointing LD_LIBRARY_PATH to a place with glibc2, etc.

Did you have any trouble installing?

What I did was the following...

Make this directory /usr/local/Office50/lib/
Unpack the glibc libs in there
unzip -L the setup.zip file in the inst directory.
cd into the inst directory and run setup

Yes, it runs fairly well out of the box, without
the registration problems of the previous version.

Umm, what libraries should be there? I only have a single checkbox next
to a single library (Standard) and only one choice in the dropdown box
(which soffice). This can't be disabled..

Should there be more? Perhaps this is the problem?

I, however, am unable to get it running.? The setup program continually

 into /compat/linux/lib and reran /compat/linux/sbin/ldconfig.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

FWIW - Linux Wp7, and several others work just fine
