FreeBSD7 and realtek 8111C

2008-09-03 Thread Andrey Slusar
Hello!
I have the motherboard with realtek 8111C LAN Card.
On FreeBSD6.3 it's card is work fine with driver from realtek wesite -
rtl_bsd_drv_v175.tgz archive.
Build this driver on 7.0-STABLE is not work. I'm hacked this and
driver is compile without problems, but LAN card works is very
unstable - system hang,
when i'm downoad file ~10 seconds. Maybe there are people who can
bring to mind my hack? I'm attached driver and patch.

I have this board on an Intel D945GCNL motherboard and the driver that comes
with FreeBSD 7 works just fine for me. Why are you trying to use the driver
 from the website?

This NIC is unsupported. May bee on you motherboard the realtek 8111B
card, not C.
8111B is works fine.

Did you try to compile Open Sound System from ports? I have some
Realtek crap and it worked only with OSS. I think that many more
devices are supported in 7.0 so you might want to upgrade the
 system. Check the hardware notes.
For the list of supported devices by OSS you can check Open Sound
 System web-site.
They also have a binary package that you can install with pkg_add
utility. Package is sometimes updated before the port!

oss in ports is not supported envy24 cards, driver in 7,0 base
system is works with very low volume.

configuration and management application for web hosting services.

It will be used primarily to control about 500-1000 virtual domains.

I know that there are Cpanel and Plesk which are very good commercial
softwares catering the needs for a good web based management tool.

So far, I have only tried out RAQdevil http://www.raqdevil.com/

For commercial hostings needs commercial panels. Open source
alternatives is very buggy and less functionality. DirectAdmin, ISP
Manager commercial panels is not needs many costs for life time
licenses or functionality is very good.

It seems good but is quite limited in it's features.

So I would like to know more open source softwares used for this type
 of services.

 Free panels: vhcs, ispconfig.

  http://www.EagleBit.com/Netgear_GA311_Gigabit_PCI_Card_p/eb-400-00357.htm

I have a few Netgear GA311's in production, and although I haven't done
any benchmarking, I know that they work rock solid operating atop the re
 driver in my backup infrastructure:

 backup# uname -a
 FreeBSD backup 6.2-RELEASE-p2 FreeBSD 6.2-RELEASE-p2 #0: Mon Mar 5
 16:57:55 EST 2007

 backup# ifconfig
 re0: flags=8843UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST mtu 1500
 options=1bRXCSUM,TXCSUM,VLAN_MTU,VLAN_HWTAGGING

I can't speak of D-Link however. Aside from the NIC's, I have found
some performance issues with NetGear GigE managed switches though,
whereas they seem to slowly loose throughput width after a few months
 without a reboot.

In gigabit networks if_re is not very stable card - needs disabling
TXCSUM(ifconfig re0 -txcsum) - it's not great choice.

As far as I can tell (and I am new to FreeBSD) psm0 is my fingertouch mouse

the settings to make the USB mouse functional.

`kldload ums' and use the ums* devices.

Re: pkgdb problem after portupgrade - operation not permitted

Naturally, portupgrade itself now fails to do anything. I've googled
for the Operation not permitted error in pkgdb, but I could not find
any useful pointers to the source of the problem. Any help is much
 appreciated.

Now portupgarde is back to stable 2.1.1 version. Update you ports

Update you ports tree and reinstall portupgrade.

Can you use a custom make.conf for each tinderbox jail?

See the rawenv file for customise.
