When I boot the i386 ISO, the kernel boots to the

I've unplugged all the disks, so the only things
in the system are the CD

I have turned off acpi at boot time, and when I

There's no PCI cards plugged in, just the AGP
 video card.

When I try booting the AMD64 ISO, the boot loader
 runs, I get the boot
menu, and regardless of what boot options I give
 the kernel, I get the
message CPU doesn't support long mode and then
 I get the OK prompt.

   I'm pretty sure it doesn't have a h/w problem,
 it'll boot and install
Fedora 11, Win2K, WinXP, and runs every DOS based
 diagnostic app I can
  find
   with no problems.

Anyone have any suggestions, or should I file a
 PR?

Did you follow the suggestion on the release
 announcement of using the
  other
CDs and switching before you start the install.

Yes.  None of the FreeBSD kernels will boot on this
 system.  Doesn't matter
if I use the livefs disk, or the install disk, it only gets
 as far as
 described above, then hangs.

I'll risk the flames, and say go back to basics.

Make sure of the drive cabling and jumpers.

I was reloading a home-grown nas the other day and the cable and jumpers gave
me a bugger of a time. 7.2 would start to boot and then just hang. I unplugged
everything except the harddrive on the primary and the optical drive on the
secondary. After the OS was loaded, I was able move everything where I wanted.

 Hello,
I've found a lot of this for LInux, but
 am looking for something
FreeBSD specific. I'm wanting to set up a FreeBSD 7.2
 machine, samba3,
dynamic dhcp and dns, to act as a domain controller. Has
 anyone done this
and do you have some notes or a howto?
 Thanks.
 Dave.

The samba howto's on the samba website cover this very well, the only step I
can think of that is a bit diff on freebsd, is adding the $ to the machine
account but it's stated on the website.
Dhcp is covered in the handbook on the freebsd website.

Ath vs Netgear wg311t stuck beacon error

2008-11-18 Thread Mark Busby
I am having trouble getting a Netgear WG311t card to work, I had tried 7.1beta
but kept getting irq interrupt storm no matter what slot or irq was set to the
slot/card. Installed 6.3, stuck beacon error. I have tried a, b, and g mode. I
have tested the card with other os's to see if was hardware.

open mail relay with ipv6??

Is this an open relay using ipv6? If so how to block the ipv6 relay.
I thought after sendmail v8.9, all relay action was blocked by default.

passing variable to at command

2008-09-18 Thread Mark Busby
Is there a way to pass variables to a shell script from the command line with
the at command?
What I've been trying is something like : at -f '/path/script 20 test' 8:10
091808 : Where 20 and test set variables in the script.

I've tried googling the at command for help but there's a lot of at in the
world.

Thanks

Looking at a Trendnet KVM TK-407K switch. It shows to work with linux. Has
anyone had success using it with FreeBSD?  I hate to waste time and money, even
with the option of resale on eslay.  Thanks for your time.

Re: secure access to AS/400 ?

2008-08-01 Thread Mark Busby

B. Cook [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:Hello All,

Seems OT, but I have been asked to give someone remote access to an AS/
400 we have here.

As I am not knowledgeable about AS/400's I do not know if there is an
openssh/sshd app that could be put on there. They give everyone
access 'locally' via telnet and some IBM gui app at the moment; the
software:

eNetwork Personal Communications AS/400
Client Access Express for Windows
Workstation Program
Version 4.3

If they can not find some form of sshd to put on the AS/400, I could
give people access to a FreeBSD via ssh and then have them use
'something' to connect to it.

Is there some terminal emulator that I would have to give them?

I don't know how the AS works or what people use on it or use it for..
so please excuse the seemingly ignorant questions..

Thanks in advance

Look at http://tn5250.sourceforge.net/, as far as security your going to be
disappointed.

If your on the same subnet as the as400, a simple telnet session will allow
you in the machine with a user name and pass. IBM dropped the ball with this
systems security, as you prob know. For years they have toyed with the idea of
killing the OS, but keep it alive at the last second. I work with it, but I
don't like IBM's idea of security.

I was reading the Xorg section of the handbook the other day and
it states. Xorg does not need the configuration file, it should run fine
without running Xorg -configuration.
Try Xorg -config /etc/X11/xorg.conf to force it to read the your config file.

2007-07-25 Thread Mark Busby
I'm running apache-1.3.37_4, php4-4.4.7, and eGroupWare-1.2.106_1.
Apache error file is returning the following error when trying to access the
calendar.
PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 16777216 bytes exhausted (tried to
allocate 23040 bytes) I've searched but have not found a working fix.
  Any Ideas??

I notice that the new version of egroupware 1.4.001 requires
eGroupWare-egw-pear.
Does anyone have a successful install?? I tried an upgrade 1.2.106 but
something about php5 was broken, and dropped back to php4. I forget what part
of php5 would not build, it was several months ago.

ibm t22 xorg problems

2007-01-22 Thread Mark Busby
I'm having problems with xorg on an IBM t22 using 6.2 freebsd. The video card
shows to be an S3 savage, but the savage driver is broken (blank screen on
startx) so I am using the vesa driver. It works fine untill I drop out of X,
the screen goes blank, keyboard and mouse become unresponsive.
I've done quite a bit of searching but have not found anything to help with
the problem.
I've enabled the dri option in xorg.conf as some suggest, but it does not
help.
  Any ideas??

install fails

2007-01-14 Thread Mark Busby
I've been trying to install freebsd on a HP pavilion with a A7V-VM Asus
motherboard.
The bios finds the harddrive and controler, but freebsd does not. I've
installed a harddrive with
bsd already loaded and the computer runs fine. I've tried older install cd's
of freebsd from 4.1 to 6.2rc2 same thing happens. I've changed bios settings,
looked for virus blocking software in the bios. I've placed the harddrive into
another computer, it works fine. Pulled cards to see if interupt storm. But
still unable to load from install cd. Any ideas??

ndis on startup

2006-10-24 Thread Mark Busby
I've got a encore enlwi-g pci wireless network card
that has a marvel chipset that is not supported by the
current drivers. The ndis driver will run the card
just fine. But if I try to load the ndis driver from

driver and reloading will not work. Loading the driver
after the computer is up seems to be the only option.

wg311t and via chipset

2006-09-16 Thread Mark Busby
I've run onto a problem with a netgear wg311t and a msi k8 neo with a via chip.
I've placed the card into all the pci slots removed all other pci cards and
still it refuses
to work for 6.1 bsd or m$. I've placed the card into an older pc and it works
for 6.1 bsd with no problems.
pciconf -lv shows that the card is not there, it lights one of the tx led in
the back but
thats the only life it shows in the msi neo.
I've searched the netgear site and found an article about needing the via
4-in-1 drivers
for the via chip, installed them but no joy even in windows.
Are there any hints for the sys.ctl file to aid the use if this card??
Someone else must be running this combo, if so how??

I have added to /boot/device.hints the following lines to try to force pcm to
another IRQ
  but no joy

  hint.pcm.0.at=isa
hint.pcm.0.irq=5
hint.pcm.0.drq=1
hint.pcm.0.flags=0x0

Is there a way to move the sound to another irq? or the atapci?
  and HOW?

fetch ports and /stand/sysinstall

2006-01-12 Thread Mark Busby
I have several freebsd boxes on 2 different connections, each one is sitting at
  or about this date.
  uname -a 6.0-STABLE FreeBSD 6.0-STABLE #2: Mon Jan 9 15:05:38 CST 2006

While trying to add ports or pkgs I get connection refused errors. Also when
using
/stand/sysinstall I get, can't find the 6.0-STABLE. I then change to any in
options, I get not found on this server try another. Other servers give the
same msg.
Google has not been my friend on this problem. I have been using freebsd from
4.0, so I have installed a few pkgs, but never had this much pain.

Is there a policy change on dynamic ip connections?

Now some things are not working right because of this, but the main one is

Where does ddclient store the time info? A reinstall of ddclient did not
clear the time problem.

calendar scheduler

2005-12-08 Thread Mark Busby
I've been searching for a web-based calendar, scheduler and message board for a
small network of 15 employees. I saw one about a year ago that used
bsd-apache-php and any browser could access it, but I've been unable to find it
now. Any suggestions to fill the need?
