I'm using rootbsd.com as well. I run a few low-traffic websites and a
couple MUDs off one of their Lambda instances. I've found their customer
service to be prompt and helpful on the few occasions when I've had

Hello,

We at SmartServ Hosting, http://www.smart-serv.net/, have been
offering VPS containers supporting FreeBSD for over a year and
previously ran all our services from FreeBSD on bare metal before moving
into our virtualization environment where we continue to use FreeBSD for
our core services. We have hosts available in US and France currently.

I am running a t1.micro instance w/FreeBSD 8.3 i386, based on Colin's
original scheme of booting from a 1GB Linux partition which grub boots
a BSD root disk. It works fine, and no Windoze tax. I am happy to
share an AMI which works - my current approach is to use a single 16GB
drive with fairly normal partitions and GEOM ELI encrypted swap.

Our main package for domains is only $12.99/mo and you get 750MB of
disk, 15GB of transfer per month, and all the other features that you
would expect from a high end web hosting company.

And we didn't just go out and buy someone's hosting platform software,
we built our own from scratch, using FreeBSD as the base operating

handle all of your needs.

I use http://www.aplus.net and am happy with them. (If you do signup with
them, please use my affiliate link so I can get a little money out of it
http://affil.aplus.net/Affiliates/click.jsp?bid=119&aid=1002121 )

Prior to that I used sago networks (sagonet.com) but left them due to
reliability problems (their whole network was basically down for a day after
an upgrade)

And before that I used ev1servers.net. They were also good, but in terms of
OS its basically take what they currently have in inventory when you sign up
(they pre-install the servers rather than do it on demand)

All have sub-$100 dedicated offerings -- some close to $50

I haven't seen anything with that much disk space that cheep. I host
one of the sites I work with at:
http://www.quadrahosting.com/hosting/unix.html

They have been very good for us, but their plans offer way less disk
space than you are looking for.

$8/month for what you were getting was a steal.

Very supportive of FreeBSD and open source projects.

Re: freebsd hosting

2006-01-26 Thread Aaron Peterson
I have leased a dedicated host for several years with mikro-data.net
who is located in Kentucky and been very happy with their pricing,
service and responsiveness. Basically, I just told them what version
of FreeBSD I wanted on the server and they loaded it. They sent me
the root password and they haven't touched it again except at my
request. It's worked out great for me. They are very friendly to
open-source communities, so if you tell them you heard about them from
me on the freebsd-questions mailing list, they might even give you a
discounted rate. I recieved a discounted rate when I heard about them
through the local LUG anyway... I don't get any perks for any of
this, in case you're wondering.

I would send questions about rates to [EMAIL PROTECTED] if you're
interested.

I have experience maintaining FreeBSD/jail systems for a local ISP in the
Pittsburgh area as well as other clients in other areas. We do not do
provide hosting at this time, but I can recommend a few different providers
in the Pittsburgh area, or I am willing to work with providers elsewhere.
