Limit on number of groups a user can join
Today I added an user to a new group and suddenly he reported he could not use this server anymore: he could not login via ssh or access Samba shares. I tried (as root) "su username" and it failed. I removed it from that group and everything worked fine again. I made some tries removing him from other groups and I got to the conclusion that it works as long as he is in no more than 15 groups, but breaks when he join the 16th. Is this an hard limit? It`s possible, but he`d better use screen for updating/upgrading, since his ssh session that initiated the process may die and then the process dies. With screen the process will continue if his ssh session dies and he would be able to later reattach to the terminal in question. -- PGP KeyID: 0x3118168B Keyserver: pgp.mit.edu Key fingerprint BB50 2983 0714 36DC D02E 158A E03D 56DA 3118 168B signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

Is this possible? The best solution is to install the sysutils/screen port and run your build process in a window under that. Then you can attach to that screen session from any number of other logins (at the same time even). As a side-effect, screen will protect you from accidental terminal disconnections (if you close your xterm or ssh disconnects on you, screen will detach the session and it will run headless until you reattach to it). The next-best is to use the /usr/sbin/watch command to attach to an existing tty and see its screen output. You'll need to rebuild your kenel and add the "snp" device (or load it as a module). > Sessions > main desktop terminal A [ssh]--> workstation terminal A (where builds > are currently being processed) > > work desktop terminal [ssh]--> main destop terminal B [ssh]--> > workstation terminal B > > > I would like to have workstation terminal B intercept workstation > terminal A, or main desktop terminal B intercept main desktop > terminal A. attaching a terminal to 'join' another?
Sorry if my question is a bit confusing - I'm not even sure the proper terminology, so I don't know what the best way to start looking is. I'm rebuilding a system at home, and I'd like to check how the build is going at a slow time at work sometimes. I can connect to the system from work (ssh into my main box, and then from there, ssh to the system I'm working on). I have a terminal opened on that system (actually, another ssh session fron the main box), and I'd like to have my new connection attach to that terminal session, if possible, so that I can just pick up where I left off, and monitor it from here. Is this possible? Sessions main desktop terminal A [ssh]--> workstation terminal A (where builds are currently being processed) work desktop terminal [ssh]--> main destop terminal B [ssh]--> workstation terminal B I would like to have workstation terminal B intercept workstation terminal A, or main desktop terminal B intercept main desktop terminal A. Can it be done? Where do I start looking, what are the words and phrases of interest? I tried looking at both the bash and xterm commands/man page, but they are rather long, and I'd miss what I was looking for without having a clue in advance. I'm guessing something like /dev/?tty?? might work, but how do I figure out which tty to use? I was just being lazy by checking errno, instead of checking the return value of pthread_*. It wasn't meant to be anything more than a simple set of tests. When a program opens a socket for listening, it requests which groups it will listen on using an option in setsockopt(), and bind(). When the program closes the socket or exits, the group is left. The IGMP Join/Leave messages are only needed if you have multicast capable routers and are running a multicast routing protocol like PIM and want messages from other subnets. Any group can be joined that is broadcasted locally without those messages. If you put your network card in promiscuous mode, as is done by most packet sniffers, you should be receiving all locally transmitted packets, including multicast. > > > Any suggestions? > > Rich Mayo > SRI International > x76435 > > > ___ > freebsd-questions@freebsd.org mailing list > http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions > To unsubscribe, send any mail to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" > -- Loren M. Hello: My name is Charles Cedeno. I am now focusing in one online opportunity.I have tried several of these opportunities full of hype promising us thousands of dollars every month. I would get all excited and run to my family and friends with another "Great Money Maker ". It is a sad fact that many people who are in need of additional income, are being victimized by these fly by night scam artists. As a result of trying all these opportunities, I finally found the company which is true to their words. Not full of hype, but consistently send me the monthly check. They have given me the best compensation plan with their high % commission. I didn't have to perform some juggling act to maintain some 60 to 40% balance in my legs. It is not a pyramid, so there are no legs. It is not one of those binary compensation plan failures either. Everyone earns commissions here. They are providing a real service not the one that simply transfers wealth from the new signups to the people at the top. When you join, you will have a team of up line sponsors who will help you succeed every step of the way. Instead of being left alone, you will be guided step by step by real people, not those auto responders. Only you can make your own success together with the help of your sponsors. If you have 2 to 3 hours a day, you will be able to earn a full income in a few months. And there is absolutely no limit as to how much you can earn. It is designed to gain momentum after some time. But I prefer to avoid such statements as "You will get rich". I read it everywhere and will not allow myself to sound like them. I experienced it personally, you can be comfortable. To get your FREE membership ID, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and put "REGISTER ME FOR FREE" in the subject and your full name in the body of your email. Also include the statement below in the body of your email. "By submitting a request for a FREE DHS Club membership I agree to receive emails from DHS Club for both their Consumer and Business Opportunities." I will then register you into the system. You will receive a confirmation email asking you to verify. Open it up and activate your free membership immediately. Then set back and watch as your new business explodes. Best regards, Charles Cedeno Note: You don't need to request for removal. This is a one-time email. Your email address will be automatically de-activated in our list if you don't respond to this mail.
