Follow-up Comment #11, bug #18499 (project freeciv):

In my opinion, the top of the science page should show the following:

Progress: Y turns/advance (X bulbs/turn)

where:

- X is the number of bulbs researched per turn (i.e. leave as is.) 

- Y should be changed to the total number of bulbs required for the current
advance, from start to finish, divided by X, and rounded up, NOT the number of
turns left for the current advance, since that is displayed in the progress
bar below.

This is how it used to be in previous versions, if I remember correctly.

I do read the top line as:

The progress in the current research is a follows: 3 turns till the next
advance at 109 bulbs per turn.

That it could show the global research speed I did not consider as it would
depend on the tech you research. The number of bulbs for a tech (can) depend
on the number of tech required, techs researched ...

 The progress in the current research is a follows: 3 turns till
 the next advance at 109 bulbs per turn.

That means that the 3 turns information is redundant as it's displayed also
in current research progress bar. This used to display how many turns it
would take with to research current target with current bulb output if one
starts from scratch. It was obviously poor indication of general research
speed with any other research cost model than classical (civ/2) each tech you
research is a bit more expensive than previous.

Changed bug category from client-win32 to client-gtk-2.0. Client-win32 refers
to native windows client that is not maintained/available any more and it was
clearly gtk2-client in screenshot.

In the image, steam engine is researched. 3 turns a 109 bulbs are needed to
reach this tech (787 + 3*109  1103). For the research goal (Railroad) the
numbers are listed in the line of the corresponding selection box (3 steps;
2731 bulbs; 18 turns).

How do you get the number of 11 turns?

What I'm thinking about are 18 turns for 2731 bulbs - I think it should be 18
turns for 2731-787=1944 bulbs?!

To clarify: By current research target I mean the tech being researched at
the moment (in this case Steam Engine), not the overall set goal (Railroad.) 

I'm assuming that the total number in the progress bar (1103) is the research
required to get Steam Engine. This should take 11 turns with 109 bulbs per
turn.

As I recall, this is the way that the turns per advance has been displayed in
previous versions.

Progress label above it, which should summarize the research speed in general,

Details:

The Science page shows the number of turns left in the current research
target, rather than the total number of turns required.
