eBay still has the last auction I did on its servers at

I include lots of screen shots, mostly of games.

Hi John,

Eric gathered up all your screenshots, and emailed them to me, asking
that I post them somewhere on the web site. Actually, it's not a bad
idea. I hope you don't mind, but I've posted them at
http://www.freedos.org/news/screenshots/

Technically, SourceForge REALLY REALLY discourages posting screenshots
in the web content area for project websites, as they tend to be
abused. So, I'll probably automatically silently remove these from
the web site after a few months. In the meantime, these are good to
share with people for some good PR for what you can run (graphically) on
FreeDOS.

I ended up now exactly where I expected to encounter the problem:

 1) Downloaded VMware Workstation (one of all the propositions)

 2) Downloaded fdbasecd.iso

 3) Started to create a new VM (thought 1GB should be enough for a DOS
 application). Here now the problems:

 a) The workstation indicates a warning that the VMware tools are not
 installed.

 b) The new VM couldn't find the OS, i.e. the ISO-file.

Who of you is familiar with VMware? Your help is very much appreciated.
 Thank you.

 Marcel

1) Create a VM, of type MSDOS. No complaining about VMware Tools then.
1GB enough as said above
2) use FDBASECD.ISO for cdrom (or FDBOOTCD.ISO, whatever)
3) once the Virtual machine is started, click in its window to let the
VM accept keyboard input.
4) Press ESC (select bootdevice) or F2 (enter VMware/Phoenix BIOS,
change bootsequence)
5) The ISO should bootup now

Re: [Freedos-user] DOS on VM ?

2006-09-24 Thread tomleem
If you can get hold of it, you might be better off using an older
version of
Virtual Server 2005, ie Microsoft's Virtual PC 2003. I don't think you'll
have the same issues with that and Windows XP Home. Hope this helps a
little. Regards Chris.

After the hint on Microsoft I tried to install their Virtual Server
2005, but it refuses an installation on Windows XP Home edition...

Now I'm on the page of VMware and wonder what would be more appropriate
for my application, the VMware Player or the VMware Server?

Framework was great, you know its still being sold and developed
  right? Id
love a copy of the current version, but its not worth spending the $
  at this
stage of the game for the use id have.

Yes, since years I was waiting to pay less than $499.-- for a newer
version. Had recently several mails with them to find out whether their
isn't a possibility of a less expensive version for private users, but
 no luck.

As a side note, at one point i think i had Framework running on
  XP. I dont
remember if i did anything special to get it to work but i dont
  think so.

I was able to use it until Windows 98. With XP I didn't have a chance so
far, even setting the program option to Windows 95 didn't help. It
really would be a great help to know how it could be made run on XP. The
whole exercise with a VM is only for this one single reason.

Re: [Freedos-user] Freedos vs ReactOS

2006-09-24 Thread Andrew Greenberg
That is, it would not be foolhardy to expect to use
Freedos in some actual business applications?

I think FreeDOS is used in a surprising amount of business applications,
but people don't advertise it very much because DOS isn't 'cool'.

We currently use FreeDOS as a RTOS (real time interrupts, anyway) for a
neuropsychological test of attention. And we deeply, deeply care about
the test working correctly so we've tested the heck out of our test AND
FreeDOS, on hundreds of computers, and I have to say FreeDOS is just
rock solid.
