Re: [Freedos-user] Network support for FreeDOS

 Hi there,

recently, I read quite some discussion about network support under DOS
on this list, but couldn't make up a consistent picture from the details
mentioned. That is why I would like to ask for more information and
especially about what components are missing for network support with
free software, comparable to the MS Client package that allows you to
connect to a network share on a server from DOS.

If I understood correctly, one needs a TCP/IP stack, a packet driver for
the particular network card in question and the matching redirector?

 Best regards,
 Andre
A history and pointer to info on networking with DOS can be found at my
DOS Networking HOWTO URL:http://www.dendarii.co.uk/FAQs/dos-net.html
which is part of the FreeDOS documentation project.

Re: [Freedos-user] A place to download my DOS ports

Hi all! I finally have a permanent place to put my DOS ports of
 software. At http://johnson.tmfc.net/freedos/blair/index.html, you
can find my (considered stable) ports of Speex and vorbis-tools, and
my experimental ports of cabextract and ClamAV. Both of the
experimental ports have known bugs. Happy testing!
I've just had a look, pretty handy BUT you've used 7-zip to archive the
files, and there doesn't appear to be a version of 7-zip available for
DOS. so if you have a DOS system how do you get these files extracted.

At least with zip, arj and gzip there ARE DOS versions available.
Mike
PS Would it be OK to add ClamAV to my list of Internet software?

As I know it only exist on the SUSE Linux (bought by Novell).
 Maybe it's a LGPL.
There was a suite that allowed Linux to emulate Netware I think it was
called NWMARS but I suspect it hasn't been supported for ages due to
the rise in popularity of Samba.

A other idea would be to use samba. but does anybody know a small (the=20
client from microsoft doesnt fit on one floppy) and a generic (the one=20
from microsoft only runs on 286 and up) client for dos ?

Only LAN Manager did the job, I'm using it.
See my Dos Networking FAQ for details on how to do this at:
http://www.dendarii.co.uk/FAQs/dos-net.html

Long time ago I've tried to use Windows client (lightweight version of
LAN Manager), but it fail to run the NDIS driver or didn't work, glad
to see someone can successfully let it work.

[Freedos-user] HowTo dual boot dos/win98se dos

2004-04-03 Thread Michael Bernardi

I currently have a 4Gig HD (formatted with Win98 format.com) with
FreeDos installed as the operating system. But since the freedos disk
utilities don't all support FAT32 I was wondering if it was possible to
add the Windows 98SE DOS OS (from Windows\Command) and the appropriate
system file to produce a dual boot PC?

Note I DON'T want to load Windows 98, just the MS-DOS 6.22 equivilants.

Has anyone else done this and documented how to do it?

[Freedos-user] Networking HowTo

2004-03-24 Thread Michael Bernardi

I've just uploaded a minor revision of my version 2 of the Networking
HowTo. Given the recent note on the main website I think it is in time,
as many of the links in the Technote don't work or are wrong. The notes
on MS Client are no use any more as Microsoft have removed all copies
from their website, and links thereto are no longer useful.

This does bring up a project that could usefully be started, ie Samba
for DOS. Unfortunately I'm not a programmer and I don't know how much
work this might entail, even if it is possible but

Anyway the latest version of the new Networking HOWTO can be found
at URL:http://www.dendarii.co.uk/FAQs/dos-net.html comments
gratefully recieved.

As soon as I can figuree out how to upload to fd-doc.sf.net I'll do so
but currently the links to the documentation are horrible recursive and
WRONG!

This combined with my DOS Applications for Internet Use document
found at URL:http://www.dendarii.co.uk/FAQs/dos-apps.html will
provide all the help needed to network a PC using DOS.
